What does holding PYUSD let you do?

PYUSD is a dollar-pegged stablecoin for holding and transferring digital dollars, rather than a token designed to rise in value. It can be useful when you want to send value on a supported blockchain or keep a dollar-denominated balance within a compatible service. PayPal USD is issued by Paxos Trust Company and is designed to be redeemable one-for-one for U.S. dollars.

As of 2026-11-08, PYUSD was trading at about $1. A market price near $1 is a target, not a guarantee: trading prices can move away from the peg, particularly when liquidity or confidence is under pressure. The value you get from holding it is mainly convenience for payments and transfers, not an expected investment return. Check whether the service you plan to use supports PYUSD and the specific network you need.

Which networks and wallets support PYUSD?

PYUSD is issued on Ethereum, Ink, Solana, Stellar, Polygon, X Layer and Arbitrum. It is not the native token of any of these networks; it is a token available on them. The same PYUSD name on two networks does not mean the tokens can be sent directly between those networks.

You can hold it in PayPal where PYUSD is supported, or in a self-custody wallet that supports both PYUSD and the network it is issued on. With self-custody, you control the wallet keys and are responsible for keeping them safe. With a custodial service, the provider controls the keys and you rely on its access and withdrawal rules. Before receiving PYUSD, check the network shown by the sending service and make sure the receiving wallet supports that exact network and token. Sending to an incompatible address or network can make funds difficult or impossible to recover.

How does PYUSD’s supply and dollar peg work?

PYUSD’s circulating and total supply were each about 2.79 billion tokens as of 2026-11-08. There is no published maximum supply in the figures here. Unlike a mined coin with a fixed issuance schedule, a reserve-backed stablecoin’s supply can change as tokens are issued or redeemed. The amount in circulation is not a promise that the market price will stay exactly at one dollar.

The intended peg is supported by backing in U.S. dollar deposits, short-term U.S. Treasuries and similar cash equivalents, and by one-for-one redemption. In practice, the price you see can also depend on trading liquidity, access to redemption, market confidence and conditions on the particular network. If you hold PYUSD through a third-party platform, its displayed price and withdrawal access may also depend on that provider. Treat the peg as a design goal, not as a guaranteed market price in every transaction.

How can you get and store PYUSD?

You can obtain PYUSD through PayPal features where it is available, or through a crypto platform that lists it. Availability, account requirements and supported networks can vary by country and provider, so check those details before you transfer funds. PayPal has described buying and selling PYUSD at one U.S. dollar per token on its service, but that does not mean every platform offers the same price or terms.

For storage, decide whether you want a provider to custody the tokens or prefer to manage a self-custody wallet yourself. In either case, confirm the withdrawal network before sending or receiving. If you use a self-custody wallet, keep the recovery phrase offline and private; anyone who obtains it may be able to control the funds. Do not assume that a wallet displaying PYUSD on one chain can receive PYUSD on another.

What can a PYUSD transfer or bridge cost?

A transfer from a self-custody wallet usually requires a network fee, often called gas. The fee is paid in the network’s fee token, not necessarily in PYUSD, and varies with network congestion and the transaction type. PayPal or another custodial service may handle transfers internally, but its own transfer and withdrawal terms can differ from blockchain fees. Check the fee shown before confirming; no single fee applies across all PYUSD networks.

Moving PYUSD between networks may involve a bridge or a service that withdraws on one network and deposits on another. Bridges add operational and smart-contract risks, and their costs and processing times vary. Confirm the destination network, any service charge and the amount you will receive before proceeding. A low fee is not useful if you select the wrong network or a route you do not understand.

What could go wrong when you hold PYUSD?

PYUSD carries issuer, reserve, platform and technology risks. The dollar peg can weaken in markets, and redemption depends on the issuer’s processes and your eligibility or access to a supported service. The backing is intended to support redemption, but PYUSD is not the same as cash in a bank account and should not be treated as a guaranteed or insured bank deposit.

If you hold it through a platform, the platform may restrict access, withdrawals or supported networks. In a self-custody wallet, lost keys or a mistaken transfer can leave you without practical recovery options. Smart-contract faults, network outages and bridge failures can also disrupt transfers. Before holding a significant amount, check current reserve disclosures, the service’s terms, and whether you can redeem or withdraw in your location. Keep in mind that a stablecoin can still lose value or become difficult to use.

When did PYUSD launch, and who issues it?

PayPal announced PYUSD on 2023-08-07 as a stablecoin intended for payments and digital transfers. Paxos Trust Company issues it, and its stated backing is U.S. dollar deposits, short-term U.S. Treasuries and similar cash equivalents. The token is designed to be redeemable one-for-one for U.S. dollars.

PYUSD has since been issued across several networks, including Ethereum and Solana, as well as Ink, Stellar, Polygon, X Layer and Arbitrum. That multi-network availability gives you more possible transfer routes, but it also means you need to pay attention to which version a wallet or service supports. If you are comparing PYUSD with another stablecoin, focus on redemption access, reserve disclosures, supported networks and withdrawal terms—not just the token’s name or its usual price near one dollar.

PYUSD FAQs

Is PYUSD always worth one dollar?

PYUSD is designed to be redeemable one-for-one for U.S. dollars, and its market price is intended to stay near $1. That target is not a guarantee: market prices can move away from the peg, and redemption access depends on the issuer and the service you use.

Which blockchains is PYUSD on?
