What can holding SNX do for you?

Holding SNX can give you a role in Synthetix’s collateral and governance system, but it is not the same as holding a stablecoin or a claim on protocol profits. Synthetix says staked SNX helps back the issuance of sUSD and the solvency of its Synthetix Liquidity Provider (SLP) vault. The protocol also offers leveraged perpetual futures, with trades matched off-chain and settled on-chain on Ethereum Mainnet.

SNX is used for staking and governance. Staking can expose you to protocol-specific obligations and risks, including changes in the value or adequacy of the collateral. Governance participation may let token holders influence protocol decisions, but the token does not guarantee that a proposal will pass or that a decision will benefit every holder.

If you only keep SNX in a wallet, you generally hold the token without taking on the protocol role of a staker. Before staking or using Synthetix markets, check the current rules, available markets, fees and withdrawal conditions in the protocol interface. Leveraged futures can magnify losses, and holding SNX alone does not make those trades safe.

Which chains and wallets can hold SNX?

SNX is issued on Ethereum and is also listed on Polygon, Harmony, Near, Fantom, Base, Optimism, Heco and Avalanche. That list describes networks where SNX has been issued; it does not mean every Synthetix feature or market is available on each one. Synthetix’s perpetual futures protocol is described as operating on Ethereum Mainnet, so check the network before sending tokens or using an app.

You can store SNX in a wallet that supports the specific network and token standard you hold. For Ethereum and other EVM-compatible networks, that usually means an Ethereum-compatible wallet configured for the correct chain. Other networks may need their own wallet support. Confirm the token and network in your wallet before receiving or sending SNX; a token with the same ticker on another chain may not be the asset you intend to use.

If SNX is held with a trading platform, the platform controls the keys and its withdrawal policies apply. In a self-custody wallet, you control the keys, so losing the recovery phrase or signing a malicious transaction can mean losing access.

How much SNX exists, and what changes its supply?

As of 2026-11-08, about 581.0 million SNX were circulating and about 581.4 million were in total supply. No maximum supply is listed. These are snapshots, not guaranteed future totals, and small differences between circulating and total supply can reflect tokens not counted as circulating under a particular supply definition.

Synthetix has not published a fixed maximum in the token details here, so do not assume that supply is capped at the current total. The exact schedule or mechanism for future changes is not specified. Staking may affect how much SNX is readily available to trade, but that does not necessarily reduce the number of tokens in existence.

Supply is only one part of what can move SNX’s market price. Demand for the token, its role as protocol collateral, overall crypto-market conditions and changing views about Synthetix can all matter. A circulating-supply figure does not tell you how much SNX is liquid or how easily a large holding could be sold. Treat supply figures as dated context rather than a forecast.

How do people get and store SNX?

People generally obtain SNX through a crypto trading platform that supports it or by receiving it from another holder. Availability, identity checks, deposit methods and withdrawal rules vary by platform and location. This is general information, not a recommendation to buy; check the platform’s terms and whether its SNX withdrawals use the network you need.

For self-custody, choose a wallet that supports the relevant chain, then verify the network and token details before depositing. Keep your recovery phrase offline and private. A wallet provider or support agent should not need your recovery phrase. If you use an exchange account instead, understand that you may not control the private keys and may be unable to withdraw during outages or account restrictions.

If you plan to stake SNX or use it with Synthetix, first check whether the wallet’s network matches the protocol deployment and what approvals or staking requirements apply. Staking is not simply a storage method: it can involve contract risk and changing protocol rules. Test your understanding of the process before committing a meaningful amount.

What does it cost to move or use SNX?

Moving SNX can cost more than one kind of fee. A regular transfer on a supported network usually requires that network’s transaction fee, paid in its native gas token. The amount changes with network congestion and transaction complexity, so there is no fixed SNX transfer cost. Check the wallet’s estimate and make sure you have the correct gas token before sending.

If you move SNX between chains, a bridge or cross-chain service may charge a separate fee, and you may also pay fees on the sending and receiving networks. Bridging can introduce extra risks, including delays, service interruptions, smart-contract vulnerabilities or receiving a wrapped representation rather than the form of SNX you expected. Do not assume that a token issued on several chains can be moved between them without a bridge.

Synthetix does not publish a clear fee mapping for every protocol action in the details here. Trading, staking or interacting with a contract may have costs in addition to network gas. Check the current transaction preview and protocol terms before confirming; fees can change, and a failed transaction may still consume gas.

What risks should you check before using SNX?

SNX carries market risk: its price can move sharply, and there is no guarantee that demand for the token or the Synthetix protocol will persist. Staked SNX is exposed not only to price changes but also to protocol rules and the health of the systems it backs. The SLP vault and sUSD depend on the protocol functioning as intended; collateral backing does not eliminate the possibility of losses or disruption.

Synthetix has limited published security disclosures, so you may not be able to assess every security assumption from public summaries alone. Smart-contract failures, compromised keys, oracle problems, bridge incidents and governance changes are risks common to decentralized finance. Leveraged perpetual futures add liquidation risk: a relatively small adverse price move can cause a leveraged position to lose its collateral.

Before connecting a wallet, verify the app and network, review the permissions you are granting, and avoid approving transactions you do not understand. For staking or trading, check current fees, collateral requirements and exit rules directly in the protocol. Never commit funds you cannot afford to lose.

How has Synthetix and SNX changed over time?

Synthetix launched on 2018-03-11. The project has evolved from a synthetic-asset protocol into a system that also offers decentralized perpetual futures. Its current description centers on Ethereum Mainnet and a hybrid design: orders are matched off-chain on a high-performance central limit order book, while settlement takes place on-chain. Synthetix says this approach aims to combine fast execution with Ethereum settlement and composability.

SNX remains relevant as collateral and a governance token. The SLP vault provides liquidity for the perpetual-futures system, while staked SNX is described as backing sUSD issuance and the vault’s solvency. These roles connect the token’s usefulness to the protocol’s design, but they do not guarantee that the protocol will attract users or maintain demand for SNX.

Historical prices show how widely the token has moved: SNX reached an all-time high of about $28.53 on 2021-02-13 and an all-time low of about $0.0348 on 2019-01-05. Those past extremes are not targets or reliable guides to future performance.

By the numbers

Synthetix in numbers

Synthetix (SNX) is ranked #276 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $95.6M and a price of $0.1645 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($95.6M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.

The price was down 10.6% over 7 days, down 29.0% over 30 days, down 81.2% over the past year. It trades about 99% below its all-time high of $28.53, set on Feb 13, 2021.

About 580.98M SNX are in circulation. No hard maximum supply is listed, so new tokens can still be issued.

24-hour trading volume was about $1.61M, or 1.7% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

SNX has token contracts on 9 chains we track, including Ethereum, Polygon, Harmony, Near. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
