Owning XVS: Uses, Storage and Risks

What does holding XVS let you do?

XVS is Venus Protocol’s governance token. Holding it can give you a role in voting on protocol proposals and changes, but it does not automatically give you lending income or a fixed return. Venus operates crypto lending markets: users may supply assets to earn variable interest or borrow against supplied collateral. Those activities are separate from simply holding XVS, and lending or borrowing brings risks of its own.

XVS is also associated with vault and reward mechanisms, but rewards and rules can change. A September 2026 tokenomics update says that on BNB Chain the XVS Vault no longer receives a share of protocol revenue; that 20% allocation is assigned to Venus Prime. Check the current proposal and product terms before relying on any expected benefit. Governance power, if available to you, depends on the applicable rules and how your XVS is held.

Which chains and wallets can hold XVS?

XVS has been issued on BNB Chain, zkSync Era, Unichain, Optimism, Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum and opBNB. The project is described as offering multi-chain lending, but an XVS token on a particular network does not mean every Venus feature or market is available there. Check the network and token contract before receiving or sending XVS; similarly named tokens and wrapped versions can be mistaken for the intended asset.

Because these are EVM-compatible networks, common EVM wallet software may support them, but support varies by wallet and network. Confirm that your wallet can display and send XVS on the exact chain you plan to use, and keep the matching network’s native gas token for transactions. Do not assume an exchange deposit address accepts XVS from every listed chain. If you are moving tokens to a platform, match its supported network and deposit instructions exactly.

How much XVS exists, and what can change its value?

XVS has a maximum supply of 30 million tokens. As of 2026-11-08, about 16.9 million were circulating and total supply was about 29.7 million. Circulating supply is the portion counted as available in the market; total supply includes tokens not currently circulating. The gap between the two figures does not, by itself, tell you when or how additional tokens may enter circulation.

Token supply and market value are different measures. As of 2026-11-08, XVS was around $2.80, with a market capitalization near $47.3 million and fully diluted valuation near $83.3 million. These are snapshots, not stable values. Token distribution, governance decisions, demand, trading activity and broader crypto-market conditions can affect price and liquidity. No supply figure or valuation is a guarantee of what you could receive when selling or transferring XVS.

How do people get and store XVS?

People generally obtain XVS through a crypto platform that lists it, or through a decentralized exchange on a network where the token and trading pair are supported. Availability, identity checks, payment methods and withdrawal options depend on the platform and your location. Check the asset ticker, chain and contract details before sending funds; a token with the same name on the wrong network may not be recoverable.

For storage, you can use a custodial platform or a self-custody wallet that supports the specific XVS network. With custody, the provider controls the private keys and may set withdrawal limits or pause transfers. With self-custody, you control the keys but are responsible for protecting them and confirming every transaction. Keep recovery phrases offline and private. This is general information, not a recommendation to acquire XVS.

What does it cost to move XVS?

Sending XVS costs a network transaction fee, usually paid in that chain’s native gas token rather than in XVS. The amount varies with network congestion, transaction complexity and the chain you choose; fees are not fixed by the XVS supply figures. Check the wallet’s fee estimate before confirming, and make sure you have enough gas on the same network as your XVS.

Moving XVS between chains may require a bridge or another supported cross-chain route. That can add fees, waiting time and smart-contract or bridge risk, and the token you receive may be a bridged representation rather than the original asset on that chain. Venus does not publish a single universal transfer cost that applies across all networks. Verify the route, receiving network and token form before moving a large amount, and consider a small test transfer when appropriate.

What can go wrong when you hold or use XVS?

The main practical risks are token-price volatility, limited liquidity on a particular chain, wrong-network transfers, wallet compromise and smart-contract or bridge failure. XVS holders who use Venus lending markets also face variable rates and liquidation risk: if collateral value falls or borrowing conditions change, a position may be liquidated under the market’s rules. Holding XVS alone is not the same as supplying collateral or borrowing, but governance or token-market changes can still affect your holdings.

Audit details are unclear, so do not treat the protocol or a bridge as risk-free. Check the exact market, collateral factors, liquidation rules, interest-rate terms and current governance changes before using lending features. Avoid relying on expected rewards, and keep funds you may need soon out of positions where a rapid price move could force liquidation. A transaction sent to the wrong address or unsupported chain may be irreversible.

What is known about XVS’s history?

Venus is associated with crypto lending and borrowing, and XVS is described as its governance token. A launch date is not established here, so it is better not to attach an unsupported start date to the token’s history. One known historical marker is its all-time high of $146.82 on 2021-05-09; its recorded low was $1.65 on 2020-10-05. These past extremes show how widely its market price has moved, but they do not indicate what it will do next.

For a more recent reference, XVS was down about 40.7% over the year to 2026-11-08, while its seven-day change was about -0.75% on that date. Short-window movements can change quickly, and historical performance is not a forecast. If you hold XVS for governance, follow proposal changes; if you use Venus markets, review their current terms separately from the token’s price history.

By the numbers

Venus in numbers

Venus (XVS) is ranked #457 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $47.3M and a price of $2.80 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $83.3M, so roughly 57% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 0.8% over 7 days, down 8.9% over 30 days, down 40.7% over the past year. It trades about 98% below its all-time high of $146.82, set on May 9, 2021.

About 16.89M XVS are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 30M (56% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $774K, or 1.6% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

XVS has token contracts on 8 chains we track, including BNB Chain, zkSync Era, Unichain, Optimism. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

XVS is linked to Venus Core Pool, which we cover in our Lending rankings. See our Venus Core Pool page for how the protocol works and how we score it.

XVS FAQs

What is XVS used for?

XVS is Venus Protocol’s governance token and can be used for voting on proposals and protocol changes. Holding it does not by itself guarantee lending income or rewards.

Which networks support XVS?

XVS has been issued on BNB Chain, zkSync Era, Unichain, Optimism, Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum and opBNB. Confirm the exact network and token contract before depositing or sending it.

What is the maximum supply of XVS?

As of 2026-11-08, circulating supply was about 16.9 million, total supply about 29.7 million and maximum supply 30 million XVS. Supply figures can change as tokens move between circulating and non-circulating status.

Does sending XVS require gas fees?

You need the relevant network’s native gas token to pay for an on-chain transfer. Fees vary by network and congestion, and a bridge transfer can add cost and contract risk.

Can you lose money using Venus?

Yes. Venus lending markets have variable rates and liquidation risk, and smart-contract, bridge, price and wallet risks can affect users. Check current market terms and governance changes before using the protocol.

What is the market cap of Venus?

As of Nov 8, 2026, Venus had a market cap of about $47.3M, ranking #457 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
