What does holding CRV let you do?

Holding CRV gives you a token used in Curve DAO governance and in incentives for Curve liquidity providers. You can vote on protocol proposals directly with CRV, or lock CRV to receive veCRV, the vote-escrowed form used for governance power. Longer lock periods provide more voting power, but locked tokens are not freely transferable until the lock ends.

CRV can also be used to increase rewards for eligible liquidity providers in Curve pools. That does not mean simply keeping CRV in a wallet earns a return: you generally need to take part in a supported pool or another protocol feature, and rewards depend on the pool and its rules. Returns are not guaranteed, and providing liquidity can expose you to losses even when the assets are intended to track similar values.

In short, CRV may matter if you want a role in Curve governance or plan to use its DeFi features. If you only want to hold a token, consider that its usefulness depends on active protocol participation and changing governance decisions.

How does CRV relate to Curve pools?

Curve is a decentralized exchange that uses automated market-maker pools. Its main focus is swaps between assets intended to have similar values, such as stablecoins or wrapped versions of assets. Pool balances shift with trading and deposits, so an asset’s share of a pool can move away from an even balance. A token that is meant to track another asset can also lose its peg.

CRV is not the same thing as a deposit in a Curve pool. You can hold CRV in a wallet without supplying liquidity. If you do provide assets to a pool, you may receive swap-fee income and, where offered, CRV incentives; some pools also hold yield-bearing tokens. These are separate sources of return and none is assured.

Before depositing, check which assets the pool accepts, how its fees and rewards work, and whether you can withdraw the assets you supplied. Pool-specific terms can differ, and a high displayed reward does not remove the risks of a depeg, smart-contract failure or changing liquidity.

Which chains and wallets can hold CRV?

CRV is issued on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Fantom, Etherlink, Base and Polygon. It is not listed as the native token of any of these chains, so you need the chain’s own gas token to pay for transactions. A CRV balance on one network is not automatically the same as a balance on another.

You can store CRV in a wallet that supports the relevant network and token standard. Many EVM-compatible wallets support several of these networks, but support can vary by wallet and by token representation. Check that the wallet is connected to the right chain and that you are using the correct CRV contract or network version before sending funds. Hardware wallets can also be used when their companion software supports the chain.

Bridged tokens carry an extra dependency on the bridge and the representation it creates. A transfer to the wrong network, or to an address that cannot access that network’s tokens, may be difficult or impossible to reverse. Keep a small amount of the destination chain’s gas token available if you expect to move or use CRV there.

How much CRV exists, and what can change its value?

As of November 8, 2026, CRV’s reported circulating supply was about 1.585 billion tokens, against a total supply of about 2.433 billion and a stated maximum of about 3.030 billion. Circulating supply can change as tokens enter circulation; the gap between total and circulating supply is not a promise about when any particular tokens will become available.

On that date, CRV traded at about $0.265, with a market capitalization of about $419.5 million and fully diluted valuation of about $643.7 million. These are snapshots, not fixed values. Market price, circulating supply and valuation can change, and market capitalization is not the amount of cash that could be withdrawn from the market.

CRV’s value may be affected by demand for governance, liquidity-provider incentives, Curve usage, token supply changes and broader crypto-market conditions. Its price was about 45.6% lower over the year to November 8, 2026, illustrating that token demand and market conditions can shift substantially. Past price movement does not indicate what CRV will do next.

What can CRV transfers and Curve use cost or risk?

Moving CRV costs depend on the network and the transaction. You will generally pay a network fee in that chain’s gas token; fees can rise when the network is busy. Swapping CRV or interacting with a Curve pool may also involve pool fees and slippage, which is the difference between the expected and executed swap price. Pool fees vary, so check the transaction details before confirming.

Moving CRV between networks may require a bridge. A bridge can charge fees and may take time, and it introduces risks beyond an ordinary transfer, including software or security failures and delays. Confirm the source and destination networks, token representation, and receiving address before proceeding. A transfer cannot always be undone.

CRV also carries market and protocol risks. A smart-contract flaw or governance decision could affect the token or pools; stablecoins and wrapped assets can lose their intended value; and liquidity can thin, making trades more costly. Locking CRV into veCRV limits access to those tokens until the lock expires. Do not treat pool rewards as guaranteed income, and avoid committing funds you may need during the lock or deposit period.

What is CRV’s history, and what should you check first?

Curve’s decentralized autonomous organization was established in August 2020, while the exact CRV launch date is not specified here. CRV’s all-time high was about $15.37 on August 13, 2020; its reported all-time low was about $0.171 on June 6, 2026. These historical extremes show how widely its quoted price has varied, not where it may trade in future.

Before you use or hold CRV, check three things: which network your tokens are on, whether you mean to keep them liquid or lock them for veCRV, and what a specific pool or governance proposal actually requires. If using a bridge, verify the destination token and network before sending. If supplying liquidity, review the pool’s asset mix and withdrawal conditions rather than judging it by its reward rate alone.

Curve’s governance and pool incentives can change over time. Make decisions based on the current rules and your tolerance for losses, not on historical prices or the assumption that a token’s intended peg will always hold.
