What can you use BSV for?
BSV is the native coin of the Bitcoin SV network. You can use it to transfer value between addresses on that network and pay transaction fees. The project also positions the blockchain for micropayments and on-chain uses such as tokens, smart contracts, computation and data applications. Those are network capabilities, not a guarantee that a particular app or token will be active, useful or safe.
BSV uses proof of work with SHA-256 hashing. Its design aims to support large-scale transaction processing and does not set an artificial block-size limit, but you should treat performance and low-fee claims as aims rather than assurances about every transaction. Before relying on BSV for a payment or an application, check that the recipient supports the BSV network specifically. A BSV transfer is not interchangeable with BTC or BCH just because the projects share Bitcoin history.
Which network and wallet should you use for BSV?
BSV lives on its own Bitcoin SV blockchain. It is not an ERC-20 token or a coin issued on Ethereum, and a BSV balance should be managed using a wallet or service that explicitly supports the BSV network. Do not choose a wallet solely because it supports Bitcoin (BTC) or Bitcoin Cash (BCH); those are separate networks.
Wallet options generally include software wallets, hardware wallets where BSV is supported, and custodial accounts at services that list BSV. With a self-custody wallet, you control the recovery phrase or private keys, so losing them can mean losing access. With a custodial service, that service controls the keys and its withdrawal rules apply. Check the network name shown on both sides before depositing or withdrawing, and consider a small test transfer when you are unsure. A wrapped or bridged BSV representation, if offered, is not the same asset as native BSV and adds separate issuer or bridge risks.
How much BSV exists, and what changes its supply?
BSV has a maximum supply of 21 million coins. As of 2026-11-08, about 20.1 million BSV were reported as both circulating and total supply, leaving the remainder below the stated cap. New coins enter circulation through proof-of-work block rewards; the cap does not mean all coins are already circulating, and some existing coins may be inaccessible if their keys have been lost.
BSV’s market price and market capitalization move with trading and can change sharply. For context, BSV was reported at about $16.63 per coin on 2026-11-08, but that is a dated snapshot, not a stable valuation. Supply figures and market prices answer different questions: a limited maximum supply does not establish demand or future value. If you are checking a balance or planning a transfer, use the amount shown by the wallet or service you actually use and verify that it is denominated in native BSV.
How do you get and store BSV?
You can obtain BSV through a crypto service that supports it, or receive it from someone who already holds it. Availability, identity checks, payment methods and withdrawal rules depend on the service and your location. Compare the network shown on the withdrawal screen with the destination wallet before confirming; an exchange account balance may not be withdrawable on every network it supports.
For self-custody, use a wallet that explicitly supports native BSV, keep its recovery phrase offline and private, and make sure you understand how the wallet restores access before transferring a substantial amount. Never share a recovery phrase to receive funds or to troubleshoot a transfer. If you leave BSV with a custodian, you rely on that provider to secure the coins and process withdrawals. Neither storage method removes market risk, and a wallet displaying an asset does not by itself prove that it is native BSV.
What does it cost to move BSV?
A BSV transaction fee is paid in BSV to have a transaction processed by the network. The amount can depend on transaction size, the wallet’s fee settings and network conditions; no fixed fee can be assumed from the network’s stated goal of low-cost micropayments. Check the fee shown before you sign or confirm a transfer. A service may also charge a separate withdrawal fee, which is set by that provider rather than being the network fee.
Moving BSV between wallets on its native chain does not require a bridge. If you use a bridge or a wrapped version on another chain, you may face bridge fees, destination-chain gas costs, delays, and additional technical or counterparty risk. Fees and supported routes vary, and an asset on another chain may not be redeemable in the way you expect. Confirm the exact asset, network and final amount you will receive before approving a cross-chain transaction.
What risks should you check before holding BSV?
BSV carries ordinary crypto risks, including price volatility, loss of access through a misplaced recovery phrase, and irreversible transfers to the wrong address or network. A 21-million-coin cap does not protect its price from falling. Trading availability and wallet support can also vary by country and provider, so check that you can withdraw native BSV rather than only hold an account balance.
The network uses proof of work, but the facts here do not establish its current mining security, independent audit status, or the security of any particular wallet, application or bridge. Treat claims about throughput and enterprise uses as claims to verify before depending on them. Be cautious of unsolicited messages, fake wallet downloads, requests for private keys, and offers promising guaranteed returns. Check a recipient address and network carefully, and understand the recovery and withdrawal process before depositing funds. Do not hold money you cannot afford to lose.
How did Bitcoin SV split from Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash?
Bitcoin SV emerged in 2018 through a hard fork of Bitcoin Cash; Bitcoin Cash had split from Bitcoin (BTC) in 2017. BSV’s name refers to its stated aim of following the original Bitcoin protocol design and the vision described in the Bitcoin white paper and early writings attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto. It is a separate blockchain and coin, not a continuation of BTC balances on the same network.
The project’s approach emphasizes scaling, stability and uses beyond simple payments. It removed an artificial block-size limit and restored some Script commands and other capabilities that had been restricted on BTC. These design choices help explain why BSV is described as a Bitcoin fork and a proof-of-work network, but they do not settle debates about adoption, decentralization or long-term security. For holders, the practical takeaway is to treat BSV as its own asset: use BSV-specific addresses and services, and do not assume that BTC or BCH wallets, support or transaction rules carry over.
By the numbers
Bitcoin SV in numbers
Bitcoin SV (BSV) is ranked #124 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $334M and a price of $16.63 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($334M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.
The price was down 2.5% over 7 days, down 11.8% over 30 days, down 32.6% over the past year. It trades about 97% below its all-time high of $489.75, set on Apr 16, 2021.
About 20.11M BSV are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 21M (96% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $3.75M, or 1.1% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.
