What does holding JOE actually do?
JOE is the governance token for Trader Joe, a decentralised exchange protocol now also known as LFJ. The protocol lets users swap tokens and provide liquidity on supported networks. Its Liquidity Book automated market maker handles trades through liquidity pools.
The project describes JOE as both a governance token and a token that accrues a share of trading fees collected by Liquidity Pools. That does not mean every holder automatically receives a payment: check the protocol’s current rules and any steps required before treating fee sharing as income. Governance rights also depend on the voting arrangements in effect.
Trader Joe’s broader platform includes yield farming and the Joepegs NFT marketplace. Those are separate activities from simply holding JOE, and each can carry additional risks. Holding the token alone does not give you a fixed return or protect you from changes in its market price.
Which networks can you hold JOE on?
JOE has been issued on Avalanche, Arbitrum, BNB Chain and Mantle. It is not the native gas token of those networks, so you will need the relevant network’s gas token to pay for transfers or other on-chain actions. A JOE balance on one chain is not automatically available on another.
Before receiving or sending JOE, confirm that your wallet and the exchange support the same network. Check the network selection and token details carefully; a deposit sent through an unsupported chain or to the wrong address may be difficult or impossible to recover. If you use a bridge to move JOE between chains, you also take on bridge and smart-contract risks.
The project operates a multi-chain DEX, but that does not mean every JOE pool, wallet service or exchange supports all four networks. Check the specific network and deposit instructions for the service you plan to use. Avoid relying on a token name or ticker alone, since names can be copied.
How much JOE is in circulation?
As of 2026-11-08, JOE’s reported circulating supply was about 457.2 million tokens, its total supply about 499.7 million, and its maximum supply 500 million. These are different measures: circulating supply counts tokens considered in circulation, while total supply includes tokens that may not be circulating. The maximum is the stated supply cap.
A cap does not tell you how many tokens are available to trade at a given moment or how ownership is distributed. Supply figures can also change as tokens enter circulation, so treat these numbers as a dated snapshot rather than a permanent count.
JOE traded at about $0.027 on 2026-11-08, with a market value of roughly $12.4 million at that time. Its historical price has been volatile: the recorded all-time high was $5.09 on 2021-11-21, and the recorded low was about $0.023 on 2026-07-29. Past prices do not indicate what the token will be worth later.
How can you store JOE more safely?
You can keep JOE in a self-custody wallet that supports the network where your tokens are held, or leave it with a custodial exchange that lists JOE on that network. With self-custody, you control the recovery phrase and are responsible for keeping it safe. With an exchange, the provider controls the keys and access depends on its policies and security.
For a self-custody wallet:
- Confirm the wallet supports the correct network and JOE token.
- Keep your recovery phrase offline and never share it, including with anyone claiming to offer support.
- Consider a small test transfer before moving a larger balance.
- Check the recipient address and network every time before signing.
Never approve a transaction you do not understand. A malicious site or token approval can expose assets beyond the JOE you intended to use. A hardware wallet can help protect signing keys, but it cannot make a wrong-network transfer reversible or make an unsafe transaction safe.
What could go wrong with JOE or the DEX?
JOE’s main risks include price volatility, smart-contract vulnerabilities, and changes to the protocol or its governance. The token’s historical price swings are a reminder that its market value can fall sharply; there is no guaranteed return from holding it or using the DEX.
Using Trader Joe adds transaction costs and execution risks. A swap may involve network gas and a pool fee, while the amount you receive can differ from the quote if prices move or liquidity is limited. Review the transaction details, including the minimum amount received and any token approvals, before confirming. Costs and available liquidity can vary by network and pool.
Liquidity provision and yield farming can expose you to impermanent loss, token-price movements and contract failures. Cross-chain transfers add bridge risk. JOE’s governance and fee-sharing description does not remove these risks or guarantee a distribution. Only use funds you can afford to lose, and check the current protocol terms before committing tokens.
By the numbers
JOE in numbers
JOE (JOE) is ranked #1,094 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $12.4M and a price of $0.0271 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $13.5M, so roughly 91% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 4.0% over 7 days, down 26.7% over 30 days, down 75.3% over the past year. It trades about 99% below its all-time high of $5.09, set on Nov 21, 2021.
About 457.18M JOE are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 500M (91% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $3.80M, or 31% of its market cap: very high turnover.
JOE has token contracts on 4 chains we track, including Avalanche, Arbitrum, BNB Chain, Mantle. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
JOE is linked to Joe V2.1, which we cover in our DEXes rankings. See our Joe V2.1 page for how the protocol works and how we score it.
