What does holding EIGEN actually do?

EIGEN is EigenCloud’s token, associated with the project’s work on securing services built on Ethereum and its developer platform. EigenLayer introduced EIGEN as an “intersubjective work” token: a mechanism intended to help address failures that participants can identify collectively, rather than faults proven solely by on-chain computation. The project also describes EigenCloud as infrastructure for applications such as open-model inference and verifiable agents.

Holding EIGEN does not make you an owner of EigenCloud, guarantee access to a product, or promise income. The token’s security role depends on the protocol’s current staking design and the services that choose to use it. If you consider staking, read the live rules for eligibility, lockups, rewards and possible penalties first. Those terms can change, and staking adds risks beyond simply holding a transferable token.

Which networks and wallets can hold EIGEN?

EIGEN is issued on Ethereum and Base. It is not the native gas token of either network: ETH pays Ethereum transaction fees, and ETH also pays fees on Base. A wallet that supports Ethereum-compatible tokens can generally hold EIGEN, but you must select the same network as the token’s location when receiving or sending it.

Before a transfer, confirm the network and token contract against a trusted project or exchange interface. A token with the same ticker on another chain may not be the asset you expect. Self-custody gives you control through your wallet’s recovery phrase, so keep that phrase offline and never share it. If you use an exchange, the exchange controls the keys and may restrict withdrawals, supported networks or deposits. Check those details before sending; a deposit to an unsupported network or address may be difficult or impossible to recover.

How much EIGEN is in circulation?

As of 2026-11-08, reported circulating supply was about 1.02 billion EIGEN and total supply about 1.86 billion. No maximum supply was listed. Circulating supply is the amount counted as circulating under the reporting method; the gap between it and total supply should not automatically be treated as an immediately available amount. Check current project disclosures for emissions, unlocks and distribution changes.

On that date, EIGEN’s reported price was about $0.165, with a market capitalization near $168 million and fully diluted valuation near $307 million. These are snapshots, not stable values. The reported all-time high was $5.65 on 2024-12-16, and the all-time low was about $0.148 on 2026-04-05. Supply changes, market demand, token releases and broader crypto-market conditions can all affect price and valuation. None of these figures indicate what the token may be worth later.

How do people get and store EIGEN?

People generally obtain EIGEN through a centralized exchange or a decentralized exchange that supports the token and the relevant network. Availability, trading pairs, withdrawal rules and identity checks vary by provider and location. No single route is right for everyone; check the exact asset, network and transaction terms before moving funds.

For self-custody, you can use a compatible software or hardware wallet and keep your recovery phrase securely offline. Test a new address with a small transfer if you are unsure, while accounting for the extra network fee. For exchange custody, review withdrawal availability and whether EIGEN is held on Ethereum or Base. Do not send tokens based only on a ticker or a message from someone claiming to offer support. Never disclose your recovery phrase or approve an unexpected wallet transaction. These are general handling practices, not a recommendation to buy or stake EIGEN.

What does it cost to move EIGEN?

Sending EIGEN requires a network fee paid in that network’s gas token, not in EIGEN. Ethereum fees are paid in ETH and vary with network demand and transaction complexity. Base fees are also paid in ETH and can differ from Ethereum’s fees. Wallets usually display an estimate before you confirm; check it at that moment because fees can change quickly.

If EIGEN is on one network and you need it on another, a bridge may be involved. Bridges can charge fees and expose you to smart-contract, validator or operational risks; processing times and supported routes vary. A token withdrawal from an exchange may have its own fee or minimum, separate from the network fee. There is no single fixed cost for moving EIGEN, and EigenCloud does not publish one universal transfer fee. Confirm the destination network, address and total quoted cost before signing or submitting a withdrawal.

What could put your EIGEN at risk?

EIGEN carries the usual risks of a volatile crypto asset, including sharp price changes and the possibility of losing some or all of its value. Its reported supply has no maximum, so future issuance and releases can affect the share of supply held by existing holders. The project’s value also depends on whether developers build useful services and whether those services rely on EigenCloud’s infrastructure.

Protocol risk matters if you stake or interact with contracts: bugs, service failures, governance or operational decisions, and slashing rules can affect funds. Bridging adds another layer of risk, while exchange custody exposes you to the provider’s controls and solvency. Before staking, check the current contract, terms, withdrawal conditions and independently verifiable security information; do not assume that a token or service is risk-free because it is associated with Ethereum. Consider whether you can tolerate delays or losses before committing funds.

How did EigenLayer become EigenCloud?

EigenLayer is the project’s earlier name; it later adopted the EigenCloud name as it described a broader developer platform. On 2025-06-17, EigenCloud was presented as a platform for developers building applications that can perform complex tasks outside the blockchain, with tools aimed at verifiable services. The project has also described EIGEN in connection with securing services through an intersubjective-work model.

The token’s market history shows substantial volatility: its reported peak was $5.65 on 2024-12-16, followed by a reported low near $0.148 on 2026-04-05. These past prices do not establish a future floor or recovery. The project’s earlier restaking focus remains relevant context, but the EigenCloud name signals a broader product direction. If you are assessing EIGEN, check which products are operating now and how the token is used in their current terms rather than relying on an older description.
