Owning RPL: Uses, Networks and Risks

RPL is Rocket Pool’s protocol token, not the liquid staking receipt you get for depositing ETH. Know its operator role, network versions and risks before holding or transferring it.

## What does holding RPL actually do?

RPL is Rocket Pool’s protocol token. Its roles include governance and supporting node operators: operators lock RPL as part of their participation, and may receive RPL rewards. The exact amount and current requirements can depend on Rocket Pool’s rules, so check the live terms before committing tokens.

Holding RPL is different from staking ETH through Rocket Pool. If you deposit ETH as a liquid staker, you receive rETH, a token representing your stake and its accumulated staking value. RPL is not the receipt token for deposited ETH, and owning RPL by itself does not earn you ETH staking rewards.

You can also run a Rocket Pool node, but that is a separate commitment from simply holding RPL. The project describes permissionless node operation with a 16 ETH requirement, rather than the usual 32 ETH for a solo Ethereum validator. That route involves technical and operational responsibilities; do not treat the stated ETH requirement as a guarantee of returns.

## Which networks and wallets can you use for RPL?

RPL is issued on Ethereum, Arbitrum and Polygon. Before sending it, check which network your wallet and receiving platform support, and confirm that the asset is the intended RPL token on that network. A token with the same ticker on another network may not be interchangeable with the version you need.

For self-custody, use a wallet that supports the relevant network and token. Hardware wallets can keep signing keys offline, while a software wallet may be more convenient for interacting with applications. In either case, protect your recovery phrase offline and never share it with someone claiming they need it to release or verify your tokens.

If you move RPL between networks, check the bridge or transfer route carefully, including supported networks, fees and withdrawal steps. Do not assume that every exchange or wallet supports deposits and withdrawals on all three networks. A small test transfer can help catch a network or address mistake before you send a larger amount.

## How much RPL exists, and what does that tell you?

As of 2026-11-08, RPL’s reported circulating and total supply are both about 22.96 million tokens. No maximum supply is specified, so you should not assume the reported total is a permanent cap. Supply figures can change, and token rules or issuance may also affect the amount in circulation over time.

A supply figure does not tell you whether RPL is easy to sell. Liquidity, trading availability and the price you receive depend on the exchange or market you use and can change quickly. If you plan to trade, check the current order book or swap quote, network, and fees before confirming. A quoted market price is not a promise that you can sell a large amount at that price.

RPL’s price can move independently of ETH and of the value represented by rETH. Its role in Rocket Pool does not guarantee demand, price support or returns. Treat token supply and any market valuation as snapshots, not as evidence that RPL is undervalued or likely to rise.

## What could go wrong, and how should you store RPL?

RPL carries several distinct risks. Its market price can fall sharply, and liquidity may be limited when you want to exit. Rocket Pool also depends on smart contracts and Ethereum’s staking infrastructure; bugs, exploits, congestion or changes in protocol operation can affect users and token holders. RPL’s price and rETH’s value are not guaranteed to track each other.

If you hold RPL in a wallet, check the network and token before approving a transaction. Review contract permissions and avoid signing requests you do not understand. For a node operator, locking RPL adds token-price exposure alongside the operational risks of running a validator; review current Rocket Pool rules for how collateral and rewards work before participating.

For safer storage, keep recovery words offline in a private place, use a hardware wallet for larger holdings if appropriate, and test your backup and transfer process with a small amount. Never share recovery words or private keys. These steps reduce custody mistakes, but they cannot remove market, contract or protocol risk.

By the numbers

Rocket Pool in numbers

Rocket Pool (RPL) is ranked #618 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $31.4M and a price of $1.37 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($31.4M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.

The price was down 7.5% over 7 days, down 22.5% over 30 days, down 58.7% over the past year. It trades about 98% below its all-time high of $61.90, set on Apr 16, 2023.

About 22.96M RPL are in circulation. No hard maximum supply is listed, so new tokens can still be issued.

24-hour trading volume was about $411K, or 1.3% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

RPL has token contracts on 3 chains we track, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

RPL is linked to Rocket Pool, which we cover in our Staking Pool rankings. See our Rocket Pool page for how the protocol works and how we score it.

RPL FAQs

Is RPL the same as rETH?

No. RPL is Rocket Pool’s protocol token, while rETH is the liquid staking token issued to users who deposit ETH. Holding RPL alone does not make you an ETH liquid staker.

Which networks support RPL?

RPL is issued on Ethereum, Arbitrum and Polygon. Confirm that your wallet or exchange supports the specific network you intend to use, and check the token carefully before sending.

What is RPL used for?

RPL has a role in Rocket Pool governance and node operation. Node operators lock RPL under the protocol’s rules and may receive RPL rewards; check current requirements before participating.

What is RPL’s maximum supply?

As of 2026-11-08, circulating and total supply are both about 22.96 million RPL. No maximum supply is specified, and supply figures can change.

How do you store RPL safely?

RPL can be held in a compatible self-custody wallet, including a hardware wallet that supports its network. Keep your recovery phrase offline and confirm the network before making a transfer.

What is the market cap of Rocket Pool?

As of Nov 8, 2026, Rocket Pool had a market cap of about $31.4M, ranking #618 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.

What is the all-time high of RPL?

Rocket Pool's all-time high is $61.90, reached on Apr 16, 2023. Its all-time low is $0.008847 (Aug 27, 2018). Past prices say nothing about future returns.

What is the circulating supply of RPL?

As of Nov 8, 2026, about 22.96M RPL were in circulation; no fixed maximum supply is listed.

Which blockchains is RPL on?

It has token contracts on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon.
