What does ALT actually do?

AltLayer is a protocol for launching rollups, including optimistic and zero-knowledge (zk) rollups. A rollup processes transactions outside a base blockchain and uses that chain for some combination of settlement and security. AltLayer’s tools are aimed at developers building these systems, so ALT is not the same thing as a token for one specific rollup or app.

ALT is used for governance and as part of the protocol’s economic security model. It can be staked alongside restaked assets, and that stake may be slashed if malicious behavior is detected. ALT is also described as supporting protocol incentives. These roles do not guarantee that holding the token earns rewards or gives you control over every AltLayer decision; check the current staking and governance rules before taking action. ALT’s role as a protocol token also does not establish that it is the gas token for every rollup built with AltLayer.

Which chains and wallets can you use for ALT?

ALT is issued on Ethereum and BNB Chain. Those are the chains to check when choosing a wallet or exchange withdrawal network. A token balance on one chain is not automatically available on the other: sending it through the wrong network or to an address that cannot access that network can make recovery difficult or impossible.

Use a wallet that explicitly supports the chain and token form you intend to hold. Before transferring a meaningful amount, confirm the network shown by both the sending service and your receiving wallet, and consider a small test transfer. If you use a hardware wallet, check that it supports the relevant network and that you can securely store its recovery phrase offline. AltLayer’s rollup protocol does not mean every wallet, exchange or app supports ALT. Confirm the exact token and network with the service you plan to use, especially if you are moving ALT between chains.

How much ALT exists, and what can supply figures tell you?

As of 2026-11-08, ALT’s stated maximum and total supply are both 10 billion tokens, with about 7.61 billion circulating. The difference between circulating and total supply means some tokens are not counted as circulating; it does not, by itself, tell you when or how they may enter the market. Check current token disclosures before relying on these figures, because circulating supply and distribution can change.

The same date’s market figures put ALT at about $0.0053, with a market capitalization of about $40.5 million and a fully diluted valuation of about $53.3 million. These are snapshots, not forecasts or measures of what you could sell your own holdings for. Trading volume, market depth and price can change quickly, and a displayed market price may not be available for a large order. Treat market figures as context, not as a reason on their own to hold or transfer tokens.

How can you store ALT safely, and what could go wrong?

For self-custody, keep your wallet recovery phrase private and offline. Anyone who gets it may be able to control the assets in that wallet; AltLayer support or any other legitimate service should not need your phrase. Secure your devices, verify addresses before signing or sending, and be cautious with unsolicited messages, token airdrops and sites asking you to connect a wallet.

ALT’s staking role has a specific risk: the token used as economic stake may be slashed if malicious behavior is detected. Staking can also involve lockups, contract risks or changing rules; confirm the current terms and the exact contract before committing tokens. More broadly, ALT’s value can fall, and rollup infrastructure faces technical, operational and adoption risks. AltLayer’s developer tools should not be treated as guaranteed safe merely because they support rollups. Review security information and costs before connecting a wallet or deploying anything, and never sign a transaction you do not understand.
