What does holding CKB let you do?
CKB has two main uses on Nervos CKB: paying network transaction fees and representing capacity for on-chain data. Nervos describes CKB as the base layer and value store for its wider network, designed to hold assets, identities and other on-chain state while allowing some computation to happen off-chain.
A practical detail is that one CKB corresponds to one byte of storage capacity on the base layer. If you use an application that stores data on CKB, its storage needs can therefore affect how much capacity is required. CKB is not simply a receipt for a service or a share in a company; holding it does not, by itself, guarantee an income or a right to control the network.
If you only hold CKB in a wallet, its direct uses may be limited to keeping it, sending it, or using it when an application or transaction requires the token. Check what a particular Nervos app needs before moving funds into it.
Which network and wallet do you need for CKB?
CKB is the native token of Nervos CKB, the network’s layer 1. It is not described as a token issued on another chain. Nervos is designed as a layered network, with CKB providing a base for assets and trust while upper layers can handle higher-performance transactions or privacy-focused activity.
To store CKB, use a wallet that explicitly supports the Nervos CKB network. Do not assume that a wallet’s support for another cryptocurrency means it can manage CKB, or that an address on a different chain will work. Before receiving funds, check the network selected in the wallet and confirm that the sender is using the same network.
With a self-custody wallet, you control the recovery phrase or private keys. Keep them offline and private; anyone who obtains them may be able to move your funds. A custodial platform may hold the keys for you, but then access depends on that provider’s account rules and security. Wallet names and support can change, so verify current CKB compatibility before transferring.
How much CKB exists, and can the supply grow?
As of 2026-11-08, CKB’s circulating supply was about 49.86 billion, with a total supply of about 50.72 billion. Nervos has not published a maximum supply figure in the token details used for this guide, so do not treat the total supply as a fixed cap.
The figures are a snapshot, not a guarantee of how much CKB will be in circulation later. The project’s token issuance rules determine how supply changes over time, but a full issuance schedule is not included here. Check Nervos’s current documentation if you need to understand the mechanics behind future issuance or any changes to supply.
Supply is different from market value. On 2026-11-08, CKB was priced at about $0.0010, but that price can change quickly and does not indicate what one token will be worth later. If you compare circulating supply, total supply or price across services, check their dates and definitions: providers may calculate these figures differently.
How can you get and store CKB?
You can generally obtain CKB by receiving it from another person or using a crypto platform that lists it, where available and permitted in your location. Platform support, payment methods, identity checks and withdrawal rules vary. This is general information, not a recommendation to acquire CKB.
For a self-custody wallet, first confirm that it supports Nervos CKB and that you can safely back up its recovery phrase. Then copy the receiving address from the wallet and check that the sender selects the CKB network. For a first transfer, some holders choose to test with a small amount before sending more; also confirm any minimum withdrawal set by the platform.
If you leave CKB with a custodial service, you rely on that service to secure the tokens and process withdrawals. If you hold it yourself, you are responsible for the keys and for choosing the correct network. In either case, check the address carefully: a transfer to an incompatible network or incorrect address may be difficult or impossible to recover.
What can it cost to move or use CKB?
A Nervos CKB transaction uses CKB for its network fee. The fee is separate from the amount you send, and the network fee can vary with transaction conditions. A specific current fee is not published here, so check the wallet’s fee estimate before confirming a transaction and make sure you leave enough CKB to pay it.
Storage can affect what a transaction or application needs, because CKB represents capacity for on-chain data. This is worth checking if you are interacting with an app that creates or updates on-chain state, rather than making a simple transfer. The exact amount depends on the transaction and the wallet or app’s handling of it.
Moving CKB through a bridge, if you choose to use one, can add costs beyond a Nervos transaction fee. You may also face fees on the destination network or charges set by the bridge provider. Bridges introduce separate technical and custody risks, too. Confirm that the bridge supports the exact networks and assets involved, and review the final amount and destination before approving.
What risks should you weigh before holding CKB?
CKB’s market price can move sharply. As of 2026-11-08, it was about $0.0010; its recorded all-time high was about $0.0437 on 2021-03-31, and its all-time low was about $0.00080 on 2026-08-14. Past prices do not establish what it will be worth next, and a low unit price does not mean the token is inexpensive by other measures.
There are also network and storage risks. CKB’s role in representing base-layer capacity ties some uses to how Nervos handles on-chain state. If you rely on a particular wallet, app or upper-layer service, its availability and security can affect your ability to use the token even if CKB itself remains on the base layer.
Self-custody adds the risk of losing your recovery phrase or approving a malicious transaction. Custodial services and bridges add reliance on third parties. Before using an app or bridge, check its network support, permissions and withdrawal process, and avoid sending funds you cannot afford to lose.
What is CKB’s history, and what does its price record show?
Nervos CKB launched on 2019-11-15. It is the layer 1 of Nervos, a network designed around a base verification and custody layer alongside upper layers intended for faster transactions or privacy-focused activity. CKB’s stated role combines transaction fees with capacity for preserving on-chain assets and data.
Price history shows why a long holding period does not remove market risk. CKB reached a recorded high of about $0.0437 on 2021-03-31 and a recorded low of about $0.00080 on 2026-08-14. On 2026-11-08, its price was about $0.0010. These are dated historical figures, not a forecast or a measure of future performance.
If you are assessing the project’s development, distinguish the broad layered-network design from specific applications or services built on it. The usefulness of CKB to you depends on whether you need Nervos capacity, fees or an application that supports the network.
