## What can you do with XRP?

Holding XRP gives you a digital asset you can send on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), use to pay network transaction fees, or trade against other assets. The ledger also has a built-in decentralized exchange for trading issued assets. XRP is designed to act as a bridge asset between currencies, but that does not mean every payment provider or bank uses it; check what a service actually supports before relying on it.

XRPL transactions are designed to settle in seconds, and the network does not use mining or token staking to confirm them. XRP does not give you a claim on Ripple, a bank account, or a guaranteed payment service. Its value can move sharply with market conditions and demand. As of 2026-11-08, XRP was about $1.16, with a market capitalization of about $73.75 billion; both figures can change quickly. Holding XRP does not itself earn a protocol staking yield.

## Which network should you use to send XRP?

XRP is native to the XRP Ledger. If you send it, select the XRPL network in your wallet or exchange and confirm the receiving service supports deposits on that network. A token called XRP on another chain may be a wrapped or bridged version rather than native XRP; it can involve a separate issuer or bridge and may not be interchangeable in every service.

XRPL uses a federated consensus process: validators agree on transactions rather than mining blocks or staking XRP. Validators rely on lists of trusted validators, and the network requires sufficient agreement for a transaction to become final. This design aims for settlement in seconds, but the validator model and its governance are relevant risks to consider. Wallet support varies, so check the exact network and asset before transferring. An exchange may also require a destination tag or memo for a deposit; follow its instructions to avoid crediting problems.

## How much XRP exists, and what changes supply?

XRP has a maximum supply of 100 billion tokens and is not created through mining. As of 2026-11-08, about 63.5 billion were circulating, against a reported total supply of about 100 billion. The difference between circulating and total supply matters: tokens not counted as circulating may enter circulation over time, affecting the amount available in markets.

A small amount of XRP is destroyed when an XRPL transaction is processed, which helps discourage spam. This burn does not make XRP scarce at a predictable rate or guarantee a change in its market value. Supply figures can vary by methodology and may change as tokens are distributed or reclassified. Price, trading volume and market capitalization also move, so dated figures are a snapshot rather than a reliable guide to what a token is worth when you read this.

## How can you get and store XRP?

You can generally obtain XRP through a crypto exchange that supports it, or receive it from another holder. Availability, verification steps and withdrawal options depend on the service and the rules where you live. This is general information, not a recommendation to buy.

For storage, you can leave XRP with a custodial exchange or move it to a self-custody wallet that supports the XRP Ledger. With an exchange, the provider controls the keys and sets its own withdrawal rules. With self-custody, you control the recovery phrase and are responsible for keeping it private and backed up. Anyone who gets that phrase may be able to take your assets; there is usually no central party that can restore access if you lose it. Before a large transfer, check the wallet’s XRPL support, the receiving address, and whether a tag or memo is required. A small test transfer can help catch address or network mistakes, though it does not remove all risk.

## What does it cost to move XRP?

Sending native XRP on XRPL requires a network transaction fee. The fee is generally small, but it can vary with network conditions and is paid in XRP; the amount used as a fee is burned. The precise fee should be checked in your wallet before you confirm. Exchanges may set separate withdrawal charges or minimums, so the cost shown by an exchange can differ from the ledger fee.

If you move a wrapped or bridged version of XRP, you may also face the fees of the other network and any bridge or service charges. That asset may not be redeemable on the same terms as native XRP. A transfer to an exchange can require a destination tag or memo in addition to the address. Sending on the wrong network, omitting a required tag, or entering an incorrect address can delay recovery or make the funds inaccessible. Confirm the network, address and total fee before approving a transaction.

## What risks should you weigh before holding XRP?

XRP’s price can fall substantially, and past performance does not indicate what it will do next. Its market value may respond to broader crypto-market changes, regulation, trading activity and expectations about payment use. Ripple is a company associated with the ecosystem, but holding XRP does not give you ownership or voting rights in Ripple.

There are also network and custody risks. XRPL’s federated validator design differs from proof-of-work and proof-of-stake systems, so you may want to understand how validator trust and network governance work. Exchanges can restrict withdrawals or fail, while self-custody puts the recovery phrase and transaction checks in your hands. Wrapped XRP brings added issuer or bridge risk. Scams may use XRP’s name to promise guaranteed returns or ask for your secret phrase; neither a wallet provider nor a legitimate support agent needs that phrase. Do not treat network speed or low transaction costs as protection against losses.

## How did XRP and the XRP Ledger begin?

The XRP Ledger’s modern launch dates to 2012, while the project’s stated roots trace back to an earlier payment-network idea from 2004. Jed McCaleb and Chris Larsen co-founded the modern project, and Ripple later became a company working on payment products. Ripple and XRP are related, but they are not the same thing: XRP is the ledger’s native digital asset, and Ripple is a company.

The ledger was designed for payments and settlement, with validators agreeing on transactions instead of using energy-intensive mining. XRP can pay transaction fees and may serve as a bridge asset, while XRPL also supports an exchange for issued assets. These intended uses do not guarantee adoption or token value. For ownership decisions, distinguish what the network can do from what a particular payment provider, wallet or financial institution actually offers.

By the numbers

XRP in numbers

XRP (XRP) is ranked #5 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $73.8B and a price of $1.16 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $116B, so roughly 64% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 7.0% over 7 days, down 16.6% over 30 days, down 49.9% over the past year. It trades about 68% below its all-time high of $3.65, set on Jul 17, 2025.

About 63.52B XRP are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 100B (64% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $1.07B, or 1.4% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

XRP FAQs

Is XRP the same as Ripple?

XRP is the native digital asset of the XRP Ledger. Ripple is a separate company associated with the ecosystem; owning XRP does not mean you own part of Ripple.

Does it cost XRP to send XRP?

XRP transfers on XRPL require a network fee paid in XRP, and the fee amount is burned. Exchanges may charge additional withdrawal fees, so check the amount shown before sending.

Can you stake XRP?

No. XRPL does not use mining or staking XRP to confirm transactions, so holding native XRP does not earn protocol staking rewards. A third-party service may offer a separate product, with its own terms and risks.

Is XRP available on other blockchains?

Native XRP exists on the XRP Ledger. Versions labeled XRP on other networks may be wrapped or bridged assets, which can carry additional issuer, bridge and redemption risks.

How do you store XRP safely?

A custodial exchange holds the keys for you, while a self-custody wallet puts control of the recovery phrase in your hands. In either case, confirm XRPL support and follow any destination-tag instructions before transferring.

What is the market cap of XRP?

As of Nov 8, 2026, XRP had a market cap of about $73.8B, ranking #5 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.

What is the all-time high of XRP?

XRP's all-time high is $3.65, reached on Jul 17, 2025. Its all-time low is $0.002686 (May 21, 2014). Past prices say nothing about future returns.

What is the circulating supply of XRP?

As of Nov 8, 2026, about 63.52B XRP were in circulation, against a maximum supply of 100B.

Which blockchains is XRP on?
