## What can you use BCH for?
BCH is the native currency of the Bitcoin Cash network. You can use it to send and receive value, pay merchants that accept it, or hold it in a wallet. BCH also pays the network fee when you make an on-chain transaction. Acceptance varies, so check that a merchant or service supports Bitcoin Cash specifically; Bitcoin (BTC) and BCH are separate assets on separate networks, despite their shared history and similar names.
BCH is not a share in a company and does not give you a claim on earnings or a guaranteed service. Its value can rise or fall, and there is no promise that a merchant will continue accepting it. As of 2026-11-08, BCH was about $248, with a market capitalization of about $4.99 billion. Those figures can change quickly and are not a guide to what it may be worth later.
## Which chain and wallets hold BCH?
BCH lives natively on the Bitcoin Cash blockchain. It is a proof-of-work network that uses SHA-256 mining. The token is not an ERC-20 or other token issued on a separate chain, so you need a wallet and a deposit address that support Bitcoin Cash itself. A Bitcoin (BTC) address or network is not interchangeable with a BCH one; check the asset and network carefully before sending.
You can hold BCH with a software wallet, a hardware wallet that supports the network, or a custodial service such as an exchange. With a self-custody wallet, you control the recovery phrase and are responsible for keeping it safe. The Bitcoin Cash Podcast offers BCH-focused media and resources, but it is not a wallet or a place to store BCH. If a service offers a wrapped or bridged BCH representation on another chain, treat it as a different arrangement with additional risks, not as native BCH.
## How much BCH exists, and what changes its supply?
Bitcoin Cash has a maximum supply of 21 million BCH. As of 2026-11-08, about 20.11 million were circulating, with total supply also about 20.11 million. The remaining amount is introduced through mining rewards, which decline over time through scheduled halvings. The cap does not prevent the market price from moving: demand, market conditions, and confidence in the network can all affect what people will pay.
Mining is also how transactions are added to the blockchain. Miners compete using computing power, and the network rewards successful block production with newly issued BCH and transaction fees. The exact amount of BCH you can access depends on your own wallet or service balance; the network’s circulating-supply figure is not a record of individual holdings. Supply and market figures are approximate and change over time, so use the date attached to any figure when comparing it.
## How do you get and store BCH?
People generally obtain BCH through a crypto exchange, a payment from someone else, or a service that supports BCH. Availability, identity checks, payment methods, and withdrawal rules depend on the service and where you live. This is general information, not a recommendation to buy. Before moving funds from a platform, check that it supports BCH withdrawals on the Bitcoin Cash network and review its own fees and limits.
For self-custody, choose a wallet that explicitly supports BCH, then back up its recovery phrase offline and keep it private. Anyone with that phrase may be able to control the funds; a wallet provider should not need you to disclose it. A custodial account can be simpler to use, but the provider controls the keys and may restrict withdrawals or face operational problems. For either option, verify the receiving address and network before confirming a transfer, and consider a small test transfer when sending to a new destination.
## What does it cost to move BCH?
A BCH transfer usually involves a network fee paid in BCH. The fee can vary with transaction size and network demand; Bitcoin Cash is commonly used for low-cost transfers, but no fixed fee is guaranteed. Your wallet or exchange may also add its own charge, and a custodial platform can set withdrawal fees or minimums separately from the blockchain fee. Check the final amount shown before confirming.
Sending native BCH on its own network does not require a bridge. If you use a bridge or a wrapped BCH asset on another blockchain, you may face fees on both networks and a bridge or service charge. You also take on added risks, such as delays, technical failures, or problems with the bridge or issuer. Make sure the destination accepts the exact asset and network you are sending; a transfer to the wrong network may be difficult or impossible to recover.
## Why did Bitcoin Cash split from Bitcoin?
BCH’s history begins with a split from Bitcoin in 2017. The fork created a separate blockchain with a larger block-size limit, reflecting a disagreement about how to scale transactions. BCH proponents favored processing more activity on-chain; the chain retained Bitcoin’s 21 million maximum supply and uses SHA-256 proof-of-work mining. The shared history does not make BTC and BCH interchangeable today.
A further dispute in November 2018 led to a split involving Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV. These are separate networks and assets, so check the ticker and chain when viewing old balances or making a transfer. Network upgrades and community disagreements can continue to affect how the project develops. BCH’s history is useful context, but it does not guarantee that today’s design will remain unchanged or that users will agree on future changes.
## What risks should you consider before holding BCH?
BCH can lose value, and its price may move sharply. A fixed maximum supply does not create a price floor or protect you from losses. Self-custody puts responsibility for backups and transaction details on you: lose the recovery phrase, expose it to someone else, or send to an incompatible address and your funds may be inaccessible. Blockchain transfers are generally difficult to reverse once confirmed.
Proof-of-work networks also depend on miners and the computing power securing the chain. A disruption, attack, software flaw, or contentious upgrade could affect confidence or transaction processing. Exchanges and other custodians add separate risks, including account restrictions, withdrawal pauses, or insolvency. Before holding BCH, decide whether you can manage wallet security and tolerate price volatility; do not rely on a podcast or other media outlet as a wallet, custodian, or source of guaranteed protection.

BCH FAQs
Is Bitcoin Cash the same as Bitcoin?
No. BCH and BTC are separate assets on separate networks, even though Bitcoin Cash came from a Bitcoin fork. Check both the ticker and network before sending or receiving either one.
What is the maximum supply of BCH?
Bitcoin Cash has a maximum supply of 21 million BCH. About 20.11 million were circulating as of 2026-11-08; new coins enter circulation through mining rewards that decline over time.
Are Bitcoin Cash transaction fees fixed?
A BCH transfer generally pays a network fee in BCH, and the amount can vary with transaction size and demand. Wallets or exchanges may add separate charges, so check the total before confirming.
How do you store Bitcoin Cash safely?
Use a wallet or service that explicitly supports BCH on the Bitcoin Cash network. Keep a self-custody recovery phrase private and backed up, and verify the recipient address and network before sending.
When did Bitcoin Cash split from Bitcoin?
Bitcoin Cash was created by a fork from Bitcoin in 2017, following disagreement over scaling. A further chain split in November 2018 led to Bitcoin SV becoming a separate network.
