## What does XTM do on Tari?
XTM is the native token of Tari, a proof-of-work Layer 1 blockchain. Tari is designed around private transactions and an app-distribution model: its miner is intended to include an application launcher, giving miners access to Tari apps. That gives XTM a role in Tari’s network, but it does not guarantee that useful apps, users or demand will grow.
Tari describes its mining algorithm as ASIC-resistant and says people can mine using a laptop or desktop. Mining still uses computing resources and may involve electricity costs, and rewards are not guaranteed. Check current network and mining software details before installing anything; only use software from a source you have independently verified.
XTM is not described as a token issued on another chain. Before sending it, make sure the wallet or exchange supports native XTM on Tari. A token with the same ticker on a different network may not be interchangeable.
## Which wallet can hold native XTM?
To store XTM yourself, you need a wallet that explicitly supports the Tari network and native XTM. Do not assume that a general-purpose wallet supports it just because it supports other Layer 1 coins. Tari’s dedicated wallet options may change, so confirm the wallet’s current XTM support and recovery process before transferring funds. A small test transfer can help you check that you have the right destination and network.
If you keep XTM on an exchange, the exchange controls the keys and may set its own withdrawal rules or suspend withdrawals. Self-custody gives you control of the keys, but also makes you responsible for protecting the recovery phrase and device. Store recovery words offline, keep them private, and never enter them into a site or app reached through an unsolicited message.
Check that the receiving service supports native Tari XTM—not a similarly named asset or wrapped version—before depositing. A transfer sent through an unsupported network may be difficult or impossible to recover.
## How much XTM exists, and is there a supply cap?
As of 2026-11-08, Tari’s reported circulating and total supply were both about 7.34 billion XTM. No maximum supply is listed, so you should not treat the current total as a fixed cap. Supply figures can change as tokens are issued or reporting is updated; check current Tari documentation before relying on a number for a transaction or valuation.
Tari uses proof-of-work mining, so mining rewards are relevant to how new tokens may enter circulation. The precise reward schedule and any other issuance rules are not specified here. If those details matter to your decision, look for current protocol documentation rather than estimating future supply from the circulating figure.
A large token count alone does not tell you whether XTM is cheap or expensive. Consider the network’s use, supply rules, trading availability and your ability to sell or transfer the asset, not just the number of tokens you can hold.
## What could go wrong when you hold or mine XTM?
XTM can be highly volatile, and the figures available for 2026-11-08 show a relatively small market: market capitalization was about $8.3 million and 24-hour trading volume about $17,000. Those measures move over time, and low trading activity can make it harder to trade at a preferred price. A quoted price may not be the price you receive for a larger order.
Privacy can also affect how transactions are viewed by exchanges, wallet providers or regulators. Tari is described as hiding transaction data by default, but you should check what information your chosen wallet or service can see and what identity checks it requires. Follow the laws where you live and the rules of the platform you use.
Mining has its own risks: hardware wear, electricity costs, software security and changing network conditions can outweigh any reward. Do not install miner software from unverified sources, and never share wallet recovery words. XTM may also lose value, and you could lose some or all of what you put into it.
