## What can you use Verge (XVG) for?
Verge (XVG) is a cryptocurrency you can send between Verge wallets. It runs on its own blockchain rather than being merely a token issued on a separate network. Verge began in 2014 as DogecoinDark and was later renamed; its stated aim is to support everyday payments with privacy options.
If you hold XVG, the practical uses are sending and receiving it, or keeping it in a wallet that supports the Verge network. Whether a shop or payment service accepts it depends on that provider. Don’t assume that a wallet address for another coin or network will work for XVG: check that the wallet explicitly supports Verge before transferring.
Verge uses Scrypt proof of work. That describes how its network validates transactions; it does not make payments anonymous or guarantee that a transaction will be accepted quickly. XVG’s market value can also move sharply, so the amount you can spend may change even if your coin balance stays the same.
## Which network and wallets support XVG?
XVG is native to the Verge blockchain. It is not identified here as an asset on Ethereum or another host chain, so choose a wallet that specifically supports Verge rather than relying on a generic token wallet. Check the network name and address format in both the sending and receiving wallets before you move funds.
The Verge Core QT wallet has been described as including Tor integration and SSL encryption. Guarda also lists Verge wallet support. Wallet features and compatibility can change, so confirm that the current version supports XVG and the functions you need before depositing. A wallet’s listing does not mean it is operated by the Verge project.
For a first transfer, send a small test amount if practical, then confirm it arrives before moving more. Make sure you can back up and restore the wallet, and keep recovery details offline. If a service holds XVG for you, it controls the keys; with a self-custody wallet, you are responsible for keeping them safe.
## How much XVG is in circulation?
As of 2026-11-08, about 16.52 billion XVG were circulating, with total supply around 16.56 billion. A maximum supply has not been published. These figures can change, so check a current Verge wallet or market listing before making a decision based on supply.
A large circulating count does not tell you what one XVG is worth or whether demand will rise. The price and market value can fluctuate, and past prices are not a guide to future returns. If you are assessing what you hold, consider the amount in XVG and its approximate value separately; the latter changes with the market.
There is no need to buy or sell solely because of a supply figure. Think about whether you can tolerate losing the value you put at risk, and avoid treating a market-cap rank or a short-term price move as evidence of safety.
## Does Verge make your payments anonymous?
Verge’s privacy approach includes Tor and I2P, which are intended to help obscure a user’s IP address, and a Wraith Protocol option for private payments using stealth addresses. Verge has described its Core QT wallet as integrating Tor and SSL. These tools can reduce some links between a payment and your network address, but they are not a promise of complete anonymity.
Privacy also depends on how you use XVG. Reusing addresses, sharing payment details publicly, using an account-based exchange, or exposing identifying information elsewhere can connect activity to you. A transaction’s visibility may depend on whether you use the public or privacy-oriented option; don’t assume every XVG transfer is hidden by default.
If privacy matters, check the wallet’s current settings and understand what information the recipient, wallet provider, exchange, or network may see. Avoid sending funds on the assumption that Tor or a stealth address makes the payment impossible to trace.
## How can you store XVG safely, and what can go wrong?
With a self-custody XVG wallet, protect the recovery phrase or private keys: anyone who gets them may be able to spend your coins, and losing them can leave you unable to restore access. Keep a backup offline in a secure place, never share it with support staff, and be wary of unexpected messages asking you to connect a wallet or enter recovery details. A wallet app or device does not reverse a mistaken transfer.
Before sending, verify the recipient address and confirm the receiving wallet supports the Verge network. Check the transaction details and fee estimate shown in your wallet; do not rely on an assumed fixed fee. If you use a third-party wallet, download only a genuine version and keep it updated.
Other risks include price volatility, service outages, and privacy assumptions that don’t hold in your circumstances. Verge uses proof of work, but that alone is not a guarantee against network or software problems. Keep only the amount you are prepared to manage under those risks.
