What does holding TORN actually do?
TORN is the governance token associated with Tornado Cash; it is separate from the privacy service itself. The protocol is a non-custodial mixer designed to make links between deposits and withdrawals harder to trace. Its Ethereum service has used fixed-size deposits and zero-knowledge proofs, allowing a withdrawal to a different address without revealing the same direct on-chain link.
Search information also describes TORN as a token used for governance and staking rewards. That does not mean holding TORN automatically makes your transactions private, or that staking returns are guaranteed. Using a privacy protocol involves interacting with its contracts and carries separate technical and legal risks. Check what functions and interfaces are currently accessible before connecting a wallet or signing a transaction.
Which chains and wallets can hold TORN?
TORN is issued on Ethereum and BNB Chain; it is not identified as the native coin of either network. You need a wallet that supports the chain where your TORN is held. An Ethereum-compatible wallet can generally display tokens on Ethereum or BNB Chain, but you must select the correct network and token contract. Do not assume a token shown on one chain can be sent directly to an address or service on another.
Before sending, check that the recipient supports TORN on that exact network. A transfer on the wrong chain may be difficult or impossible to recover. You will also need the network’s native coin to pay transaction fees; those fees are separate from TORN and vary with network conditions. Confirm the token contract through a trusted project or wallet interface, rather than relying on a token name or ticker alone, since other tokens can use the same name.
How much TORN exists, and why does that matter?
TORN has a maximum supply of 10 million tokens. As of 2026-11-08, about 4.78 million were reported as circulating, with total supply close to 10 million. These figures can change, and circulating supply is not the same as the amount available to trade. The token’s reported price was about $5.69 on that date; it is a snapshot, not a reliable indication of what you could receive later.
If you are assessing a holding, check current supply and market data before acting, and consider how thin trading activity can affect the price you actually get. TORN has experienced large historical price changes, so its past high or low should not be treated as a target. A market quote also does not account for trading fees, slippage, or the possibility that a sale cannot be completed at the displayed price.
How should you store TORN safely?
For a self-custody wallet, protect the recovery phrase offline and never share it with anyone claiming to offer support. Use a hardware wallet if it suits your needs, and verify transaction details on the device before approving them. Keep a small test transfer in mind when moving TORN, especially if you are changing networks or using a wallet for the first time.
TORN can be held on Ethereum or BNB Chain, so record which network your balance is on and keep enough of that network’s native coin for transaction fees. A wallet’s token display is not proof that a transfer or contract interaction is safe. Be cautious of unsolicited messages, fake token listings, and sites asking you to connect a wallet or sign an unexplained message. A signature can authorize actions beyond a simple login; read the request before approving it.
What could go wrong with TORN or Tornado Cash?
TORN carries several risks beyond ordinary price volatility. Its value depends partly on continued interest in the token and the governance and staking functions available to holders. Those functions can change, and staking can expose you to smart-contract, validator or lock-up risks depending on the mechanism. Do not treat a displayed reward rate as guaranteed income.
Tornado Cash’s privacy features also create legal and compliance uncertainty. Rules and restrictions can vary by country and change over time; check the law where you live before using the protocol or interacting with related services. Privacy does not make transactions invisible to every observer or remove obligations that apply to you. The protocol’s contracts and interfaces can also face technical, access, or operational problems. Audit details are limited, so do not assume that contracts are risk-free. Only commit funds you can afford to lose, and review each contract interaction before signing.

Tornado Cash (TORN) is ranked #676 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $27.2M and a price of $5.69 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $56.9M, so roughly 48% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 1.6% over 7 days, down 17.8% over 30 days, down 62.4% over the past year. It trades about 99% below its all-time high of $436.16, set on Feb 13, 2021.
About 4.78M TORN are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 10M (48% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $65.0K, or 0.2% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.
TORN has token contracts on 2 chains we track, including Ethereum, BNB Chain. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
TORN is linked to Tornado Cash, which we cover in our Privacy rankings. See our Tornado Cash page for how the protocol works and how we score it.

TORN FAQs
What is TORN used for?
TORN is associated with Tornado Cash governance and has been described as a token for staking rewards. Holding TORN alone does not anonymize your transactions; privacy functions involve the protocol and its contracts.
Which networks support TORN?
TORN is issued on Ethereum and BNB Chain. Use a wallet that supports the network holding your tokens, and confirm the network and token contract before transferring.
What is TORN’s maximum supply?
As of 2026-11-08, about 4.78 million TORN were reported in circulation, out of a maximum supply of 10 million. Supply figures may change, so check current figures when making a decision.
