What does holding SKY let you do?
Holding SKY mainly gives you a role in Sky Protocol governance. Depending on the protocol’s current voting rules, holders can vote on proposals that affect its settings and development. A vote is not the same as ownership of the protocol, a claim on its income, or a guaranteed say in every decision.
SKY can also be staked through the protocol’s Staking Engine. Staking may make rewards available and may be connected to borrowing USDS, but the terms, risks, and available options can change. Rewards are not guaranteed, and borrowing involves its own repayment and collateral conditions. Check the live contract and protocol rules before interacting.
SKY is distinct from USDS, the protocol’s dollar-referenced stablecoin. Holding SKY does not mean your balance is designed to stay at one dollar. Its market price can move, and governance rights do not protect you from losses. If you only want exposure to a stablecoin or a voting role, confirm which token and activity you actually need.
Which chains and wallets support SKY?
SKY is issued on Ethereum. That means you generally need an Ethereum-compatible wallet that supports the token standard and can display custom tokens. The token facts do not confirm other chains on which SKY itself is issued, so do not assume a protocol feature such as SkyLink means SKY is natively available on every connected network.
Before sending SKY to a wallet or exchange, check that the destination supports SKY on the same network you are using. A wallet address may look similar across networks while assets on different chains are not interchangeable. If a service offers a wrapped or bridged version, verify its issuer, contract address, and redemption process separately; it may carry risks that the Ethereum token does not.
Keep access to your wallet’s recovery phrase private and offline. A self-custody wallet gives you control but also makes you responsible for securing the keys. With a custodial platform, the provider controls the keys and may set its own withdrawal requirements. Either way, confirm the token and network before approving a transfer.
How much SKY exists, and what can move its price?
As of 2026-11-08, SKY’s reported circulating supply was about 23.42 billion tokens, with total supply around 23.45 billion and a maximum near 23.46 billion. These are time-sensitive figures, not fixed wallet balances, and token contracts or reporting methods can affect how figures are presented. The reported market capitalization was about $1.50 billion on that date.
Supply can shift through protocol decisions or token mechanisms, but the available token facts do not establish the exact rules that change SKY’s supply. Check current governance proposals and contract information rather than assuming that supply is permanently fixed at the maximum.
Price is separate from supply. On 2026-11-08, SKY was about $0.064, roughly 5.7% lower over seven days and 16% higher over one year. It had reached about $0.101 on 2026-10-05 and about $0.036 on 2025-02-02. These past figures show volatility; they do not indicate what the token will do next. Market price and trading volume can vary between venues.
How do people get and store SKY?
People generally obtain SKY through a crypto platform that lists it or by swapping another token for it on a compatible decentralized exchange. Availability, identity checks, deposit rules, and withdrawal options differ by provider and location. No single route is guaranteed to be available to you. This is general information, not a recommendation to acquire SKY.
For a self-custody wallet, you will need an Ethereum-compatible wallet and enough ETH to pay Ethereum transaction fees when you move or interact with tokens. Take care with token names: look up the verified SKY contract through a reliable channel before adding it, because unrelated tokens can use the same name or ticker.
If you leave SKY with a custodial platform, you rely on that provider to safeguard and release your assets. If you withdraw to your own wallet, you control the keys but bear the risk of losing them or sending to an incompatible address. A small test transfer can help catch address or network errors, though it still incurs a fee. Never share a recovery phrase or sign an unfamiliar transaction.
What does it cost to move SKY?
Moving SKY on Ethereum usually requires a network fee, often called gas, paid in ETH. The fee varies with network demand and transaction complexity; it is not a fixed charge set by the SKY token itself. A simple transfer and a smart-contract action such as staking can have different costs. Check the wallet’s fee estimate before confirming, and leave enough ETH for the transaction.
Moving value between chains can add steps and costs. A bridge may charge a fee, and you may also pay gas on the source and destination networks. The token facts do not specify SkyLink’s current supported networks, routes, or charges, so confirm the exact product and terms before relying on it. A bridge can also introduce contract, liquidity, or operator risks beyond ordinary network fees.
An exchange may handle network fees within its own withdrawal charge, or apply separate minimums and limits. Those terms can change. Confirm the selected chain, withdrawal amount, and final fee on the service before sending; a transfer to the wrong network may be difficult or impossible to recover.
What risks should SKY holders watch for?
SKY carries the usual risks of a volatile crypto token, plus risks tied to its governance and DeFi connections. A market price can fall sharply, and voting rights do not guarantee that a proposal will benefit holders. Large or coordinated voters may have more influence than a small holder. Read proposals carefully, including changes to collateral, protocol parameters, or token mechanisms.
Smart contracts can contain bugs or be affected by exploits. Staking and borrowing add further exposure: rewards can change, access may be subject to protocol rules, and borrowing can create repayment or liquidation risk. USDS is designed to track one US dollar, but a target is not a guarantee that it will always trade at that value. A bridge or third-party wallet adds its own security and operational risks.
The token facts do not establish a current audit status, guaranteed return, or a fixed staking rate. Do not treat any advertised yield as risk-free. Before interacting, verify contract addresses, understand what approvals you grant, and consider whether you can tolerate losing the amount involved.
Why did Maker become Sky, and what changed for SKY?
Sky Protocol launched in 2024 as a rebrand and upgrade of the older Maker Protocol. SKY became its governance token, replacing the role previously associated with MKR. The protocol’s ecosystem includes USDS, a stablecoin designed to track the US dollar, alongside governance and staking functions associated with SKY.
That history matters if you are reading older guides or looking at wallet balances: references to Maker, MKR, or earlier protocol products may describe a different name or an earlier set of rules. Do not assume that an old tutorial, token address, or explanation of staking and governance still applies. Verify current contract addresses and procedures before moving tokens or using a protocol feature.
The change in branding does not remove the ordinary risks of a DeFi system. Smart-contract behavior, governance decisions, and the market price of SKY remain important considerations. If a service presents SKY as interchangeable with another token, check the conversion terms and the network rather than relying on the name alone.
By the numbers
Sky in numbers
Sky (SKY) is ranked #59 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $1.50B and a price of $0.0640 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($1.50B) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.
The price was down 5.7% over 7 days, down 17.2% over 30 days, up 16.0% over the past year. It trades about 37% below its all-time high of $0.1009, set on Oct 5, 2026.
About 23.42B SKY are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 23.46B (100% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $3.97M, or 0.3% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.
SKY has token contracts on Ethereum. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

What is SKY used for?
SKY is the governance token for Sky Protocol, which launched in 2024 as an upgrade and rebrand of Maker Protocol. Holders may vote on protocol proposals, subject to current governance rules.
Which blockchain is SKY on?
SKY is issued on Ethereum. A wallet or platform must support SKY on Ethereum; check the network and token contract before sending, since protocol cross-chain features do not necessarily mean the token is issued on other networks.
Can you stake SKY?
SKY can be staked through the protocol’s Staking Engine, and staking may be associated with rewards or borrowing USDS. Rates and conditions are not guaranteed, so check the current protocol rules and risks before interacting.
How many SKY tokens are there?
As of 2026-11-08, reported circulating supply was about 23.42 billion SKY, with a maximum near 23.46 billion. Supply figures can change and should be checked again when you need current values.
What are SKY transaction fees?
Ethereum transfers require gas, usually paid in ETH, and the amount varies with network demand and transaction type. A bridge or exchange withdrawal can add separate charges, so check the displayed cost and network before confirming.
