What can you use ONG for?

ONG is Ontology’s utility token for paying for services and transactions on the Ontology blockchain. Ontology uses two tokens: ONT is used for staking in consensus, while ONG is used for on-chain activity. If you hold ONG, its practical use is therefore tied to applications and transactions on Ontology—not to staking in the way ONT is used.

Ontology’s MainNet launched on June 30, 2018. Its design includes public blockchain infrastructure, smart contracts and modules for uses such as digital identity and data exchange. Those capabilities do not guarantee that a particular application will be active or that ONG will be needed for every service. Before sending or acquiring ONG, check that the app or transaction you intend to use actually accepts it.

The network periodically releases ONG in connection with ONT. The specific distribution mechanics and timing matter if you expect to receive ONG from holding ONT, so check current Ontology instructions rather than assuming that simply owning ONT automatically credits a wallet.

Which chain and wallet should you use for ONG?

ONG is issued on Ontology. The token facts identify Ontology as its issued-on chain and do not list other supported chains. For a transfer, choose a wallet and exchange that explicitly support native ONG on Ontology; a token with the same ticker on another network may be a different asset or a wrapped representation.

Before sending, confirm the receiving address and network shown by the recipient. A test transfer can help you catch a network or address mistake, although it may involve an additional fee. Keep some ONG available if you plan to use Ontology services, because network activity may require the token for fees. Check the fee estimate in your wallet before confirming; network costs can change with the transaction and conditions.

Do not assume that every general-purpose crypto wallet supports Ontology or ONG. Verify that it can display and send the native token, and make sure you can securely back up its recovery phrase or private key. If you use an exchange, check whether its ONG withdrawal is on Ontology and whether withdrawals are currently available.

How much ONG exists, and can its supply grow?

ONG has a stated maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. The reported total supply is 800 million, with about 485.3 million circulating as of November 8, 2026. These figures describe different measures: circulating supply is the amount counted as available in the market, while total and maximum supply are broader supply limits. They can change, so check the figures again before relying on them.

Ontology’s dual-token design links periodic ONG releases to ONT on MainNet. That release model helps explain why ONG’s supply is not the same as ONT’s, but it does not by itself tell you how quickly supply will change or how much ONG you might receive. The project’s token facts do not specify a release schedule or the amount allocated to each holder.

For market context, ONG’s market capitalization was about $31.6 million and its fully diluted valuation about $52.1 million as of November 8, 2026. These are snapshots, not guarantees of liquidity or future value. Prices and trading conditions can move sharply.

How can you store ONG safely, and what can go wrong?

ONG is a crypto asset, so a wrong address, unsupported network or lost recovery phrase can mean permanent loss. For long-term storage, consider a hardware wallet that explicitly supports native Ontology assets, or a reputable software wallet with strong device security. Keep your recovery phrase offline, private and separate from the device; anyone who obtains it may be able to control your funds. Never share it with someone claiming to offer support.

Before moving a substantial balance, verify the token and network details and consider a small test transaction. Be cautious with unsolicited links, fake wallet apps, token approvals and messages asking you to “claim” ONG. A transaction you sign may give an application permission to move assets, so read prompts and revoke permissions you no longer need when the wallet provides that option.

ONG’s market price can be volatile, and a token’s stated supply or network use does not protect its value. You may also face exchange custody, withdrawal availability and liquidity risks. Keep records of transactions for your tax reporting, and do not store funds you cannot afford to lose.

By the numbers

Ontology Gas in numbers

Ontology Gas (ONG) is ranked #613 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $31.6M and a price of $0.0652 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $52.1M, so roughly 61% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 8.2% over 7 days, down 24.2% over 30 days, down 42.5% over the past year. It trades about 99% below its all-time high of $4.39, set on Sep 28, 2018.

About 485.34M ONG are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 1B (49% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $277K, or 0.9% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

ONG has token contracts on Ontology. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

ONG FAQs

What is ONG used for?

ONG is Ontology’s utility token for on-chain services and transactions. ONT, the other token in Ontology’s dual-token model, is used for staking in consensus.

What network is ONG on?

The token facts list Ontology as ONG’s issued-on chain. Before sending, confirm that your wallet or exchange supports native ONG on Ontology and that the recipient uses the same network.

Does holding ONT earn ONG?

Ontology’s MainNet periodically releases ONG in connection with ONT. The release timing and holder-specific distribution details are not specified here, so do not assume that holding ONT automatically credits ONG to your wallet.

What is ONG’s maximum supply?

ONG’s stated maximum supply is 1 billion. About 485.3 million were circulating and total supply was 800 million as of November 8, 2026; supply figures can change.

How do you store ONG safely?

Use a wallet that explicitly supports native ONG on Ontology. Protect your recovery phrase offline, verify the network and address before sending, and be wary of unsolicited requests to connect your wallet or claim tokens.

What is the market cap of Ontology Gas?

As of Nov 8, 2026, Ontology Gas had a market cap of about $31.6M, ranking #613 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.

What is the all-time high of ONG?

Ontology Gas's all-time high is $4.39, reached on Sep 28, 2018. Its all-time low is $0.0402 (Aug 12, 2026). Past prices say nothing about future returns.

What is the circulating supply of ONG?

As of Nov 8, 2026, about 485.34M ONG were in circulation, against a maximum supply of 1B.

Which blockchains is ONG on?

It has token contracts on Ontology.
