Owning KNC: Uses, Wallets and Risks

KNC is Kyber Network’s utility and governance token. Kyber Network brings together liquidity from different sources so decentralised applications can make on-chain token swaps; KNC is used to connect participants in that ecosystem.

If you hold KNC, its clearest stated use is governance: you can stake it in KyberDAO and vote on proposals about the platform. Stakers may also earn rewards in ETH funded by trading fees. Rewards depend on protocol activity and the applicable rules, so they are not guaranteed income. Check the current staking and withdrawal conditions before committing tokens.

KNC is not the same thing as a share in a company, and holding it does not guarantee a return or a role in every Kyber service. Its practical value to you depends on whether you want to participate in governance or staking, as well as whether you can access the token and its supported services. Consider the possibility that token value and available protocol activity can change.

KNC is issued on Ethereum and is also listed across Optimism, Polygon, Linea, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Polygon zkEVM, BNB Chain, zkSync Era and Fantom. These are separate networks: a KNC balance on one chain is not automatically usable on another.

Before receiving or sending KNC, confirm the network supported by both your wallet and the destination service. An Ethereum address may look similar across several EVM-compatible networks, but choosing the wrong network can leave funds inaccessible or make recovery difficult. If you need to move tokens between chains, use a bridge only after checking its supported networks, token representation, fees and risks.

You can use a wallet that supports the relevant network and token standard, including a compatible hardware-wallet setup. Add or select the correct network and verify the token contract through a trusted channel before adding a custom token. Never rely on a token name or ticker alone: unrelated or counterfeit tokens can use the same label.

As of 2026-11-08, KNC’s reported circulating supply was about 209.3 million, with total supply of about 241.1 million and a stated maximum of about 252.3 million. Supply figures can change, so check the current figures before using them to compare tokens or estimate your share of the supply.

For context, KNC traded at about $0.104 on that date, with a market capitalisation of about $21.7 million. Those are dated market snapshots, not a guide to future value. A token’s market price can move sharply, and market capitalisation does not tell you how easily you could sell a large holding.

If you are assessing your own position, distinguish the number of tokens you hold from their current market value. Also account for any KNC staked in KyberDAO, tokens on other networks, and any transaction or bridging costs involved in bringing them together. Do not assume that the maximum supply means the circulating amount will remain fixed.

Treat KNC like any other crypto asset: whoever controls the wallet’s recovery phrase or private keys can control the tokens. Keep your recovery phrase offline, never share it, and be wary of messages or websites asking you to connect a wallet or sign an unexpected transaction. A hardware wallet can reduce some online-key risks, but it cannot prevent every mistake or malicious approval.

Before transferring KNC, verify the destination address, network and token. Sending on an unsupported chain, approving a harmful contract, or losing your recovery phrase can lead to permanent loss. Keep a small test transfer in mind when moving a larger amount, while recognising that it does not remove these risks.

Staking adds protocol and governance risks: smart-contract faults, changing proposal rules, or reduced trading activity could affect access or rewards. Bridging adds another layer of risk because assets may depend on bridge contracts or representations on the destination chain. KNC’s price can also fall, and there is no guaranteed return. Review the current staking terms and any approvals before you commit funds.
