What can you use ERG for?
ERG is the native coin of the Ergo blockchain. You can use it to pay for transactions and interact with smart contracts on that network. Ergo is designed for decentralized applications, with a focus on financial contracts. Its ErgoScript language lets developers set rules for how coins can be spent, including conditions about who can spend them and when.
That makes ERG useful for more than sending value between wallets: it can also be involved in applications built on Ergo, such as DeFi services. The token’s practical uses depend on which applications are operating and what they support; a project built on Ergo does not automatically make ERG a good fit for every user. Check the terms and risks of an application before connecting a wallet or approving a transaction.
Which network should you use to send ERG?
ERG is native to the Ergo blockchain. It is not listed as natively issued on other chains, so make sure a wallet or exchange is supporting the Ergo network when you receive or withdraw it. A token called ERG on another network may be a wrapped asset rather than native ERG; using the wrong network can make funds difficult or impossible to recover.
Before sending, check the destination address, network selection and any withdrawal instructions. For a wallet, confirm that it explicitly supports Ergo and that you can restore it using its recovery method. If you are using a third-party service or bridge to access a wrapped version, check who operates it, how redemption works and what additional risks apply. Do not assume that assets with the same ticker are interchangeable across networks.
How much ERG exists, and what does that tell you?
As of 2026-11-08, Ergo had about 83.5 million ERG in circulating supply and about 97.7 million in total supply. A maximum-supply figure is not published. These figures can change as coins enter circulation, so check current tokenomics before relying on them.
Supply numbers do not tell you what ERG is worth or whether demand will rise. Its market price can move sharply, and trading can be thin compared with larger cryptocurrencies. If you are considering holding ERG, decide how much price volatility and potential loss you can tolerate; do not treat a circulating-supply figure as a price signal. For an application that uses ERG as collateral, also check what happens if the collateral value falls, including liquidation rules and any fees.
How can you store ERG and limit the risks?
To hold ERG yourself, use a wallet that specifically supports the Ergo network. Secure its recovery phrase offline, keep it private, and never enter it into a website or share it with someone claiming to offer support. A hardware wallet can reduce exposure to malware, but it cannot protect you if you approve a malicious transaction or expose your recovery phrase.
Before moving a large balance, send a small test amount and confirm it arrives on the intended network. Check the address on your device, not only on a potentially compromised computer screen. Keep wallet software updated and be cautious with dApps that request permissions or signatures you do not understand.
ERG’s value can fall substantially, and smart contracts, bridges and custodial services add risks beyond price changes. Transactions may be irreversible, and losing your recovery phrase can mean losing access. Only keep funds in an application or service if you understand its withdrawal, contract and counterparty risks.
By the numbers
Ergo in numbers
Ergo (ERG) is ranked #917 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $16.9M and a price of $0.2022 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $19.8M, so roughly 85% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 30.1% over 7 days, down 36.3% over 30 days, down 69.2% over the past year. It trades about 99% below its all-time high of $18.72, set on Sep 2, 2021.
About 83.53M ERG are in circulation, from a total supply of 97.74M. No hard maximum supply is listed.
24-hour trading volume was about $161K, or 1.0% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.
ERG is the native token of Ergo. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
CoinGecko groups ERG under Layer 1 tokens, Zero-knowledge (ZK) tokens.

ERG FAQs
What is ERG used for?
ERG is used for transactions on the Ergo blockchain and for interacting with applications built on it. What an application requires can vary, so check its terms before connecting your wallet.
Which blockchain is ERG on?
ERG is native to Ergo. Check that the sending and receiving services both support the Ergo network before making a transfer; a wrapped version on another chain is a separate consideration.
What is the supply of ERG?
As of 2026-11-08, circulating supply was about 83.5 million ERG and total supply about 97.7 million. A maximum-supply figure is not published.
How do you store ERG safely?
Use a wallet that explicitly supports Ergo, and keep its recovery phrase private and offline. Test with a small transfer first, and carefully review any transaction before signing it.
What are the main risks of holding ERG?
ERG can lose value, and transactions are generally irreversible. Smart contracts, bridges, exchanges and wallet mistakes can create additional risks, including loss of access or funds.
What is the market cap of Ergo?
As of Nov 8, 2026, Ergo had a market cap of about $16.9M, ranking #917 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of ERG?
Ergo's all-time high is $18.72, reached on Sep 2, 2021. Its all-time low is $0.0942 (Mar 12, 2020). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
What is the circulating supply of ERG?
As of Nov 8, 2026, about 83.53M ERG were in circulation; no fixed maximum supply is listed.
Which blockchains is ERG on?
ERG is the native token of Ergo.
