## What does holding DYDX let you do?
Holding DYDX can give you a role in governing the dYdX protocol and, on dYdX Chain, the option to stake or delegate tokens to validators. Governance can cover protocol parameters and other proposals; voting power and eligibility depend on the token’s current rules. Staking helps secure the proof-of-stake network, but returns, lockups and other conditions can change, so check the live terms before committing tokens.
DYDX is not required simply because you want to trade perpetuals on dYdX. Trading and holding the token are separate decisions, and the token’s price can move independently of the platform’s activity. As of 2026-11-08, DYDX was about $0.093, with a market capitalization of about $78.9 million. Those figures are snapshots, not a measure of what your tokens will be worth later.
## Which chain and wallet should hold your DYDX?
DYDX is the native token of dYdX Chain, a standalone blockchain built with the Cosmos SDK. The token is also issued on Cosmos and Osmosis, so a wallet may show DYDX balances on more than one network. A token with the same ticker on a different network is not automatically interchangeable with native-chain DYDX.
Use a wallet that explicitly supports the network and token version you intend to hold. Before receiving or sending funds, check the network shown in the wallet and confirm the destination address is for that network. If you delegate DYDX, make sure the wallet supports dYdX Chain staking and governance actions as well as ordinary transfers. A wallet’s ability to display a balance does not necessarily mean it can stake, vote or move tokens across chains. Keep recovery details offline and never share your seed phrase with a website or support account.
## How much DYDX exists, and what can move its value?
DYDX has a maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. As of 2026-11-08, about 846.1 million were circulating, out of a reported total supply of about 958.3 million. The difference between circulating and total supply matters: not all existing tokens are necessarily available to trade at a given time, and the maximum is not the same as the circulating amount.
On that date, the fully diluted valuation was about $89.3 million. DYDX was down about 11% over the previous seven days and about 72% over the previous year; its recorded high was $4.52 on 2024-03-07 and its low was $0.078815 on 2026-03-07. These are historical market figures, not forecasts. Token distributions, staking and market demand can affect how much is available or how much buyers will pay. Check current tokenomics and governance decisions for any changes to emissions, unlocks or supply policy; do not assume that a maximum supply alone determines future scarcity.
## How do you get and store DYDX?
You can acquire DYDX through crypto platforms or by receiving it from another holder, subject to the services and networks available where you live. If you already hold DYDX on another supported chain, moving it to dYdX Chain may require a bridge or other transfer route. Check which token version and network a service supports before sending; ticker symbols alone are not enough to identify a valid deposit.
For storage, choose a wallet that supports the relevant chain and keep control of your recovery phrase. A custodial platform may hold the keys for you, while a self-custody wallet puts backup and transaction-signing duties on you. Neither approach removes risk. Test a new destination carefully, verify the network and address, and consider a small transfer first if you are unsure. Avoid sharing recovery words or approving unexpected wallet prompts. This is general handling information, not a recommendation to buy or use a particular service.
## What can a DYDX transfer or bridge cost?
Sending DYDX costs a network transaction fee, and the amount can vary with network conditions and the action you take. Transfers on dYdX Chain, staking actions and governance transactions may have different costs. Check the fee shown in your wallet before confirming, and keep enough of the network’s accepted fee token available; do not assume a balance of DYDX on another chain will pay a dYdX Chain fee.
Moving tokens between networks can cost more than a simple transfer. A bridge may involve fees on the sending and receiving chains, provider charges or a difference between the amount sent and received. The route also adds smart-contract and operational risks. Confirm the exact asset, destination network and final amount before approving. Fees and bridge availability are not fixed, so check them at the time of the transaction rather than relying on an old estimate.
## What risks should you check before holding DYDX?
The main risks are token-price volatility, mistakes between network versions, and the technical risks of self-custody or bridging. A transfer sent to an incompatible network or address may be difficult or impossible to recover. A bridge can be exploited or paused, while a compromised wallet or exposed recovery phrase can let someone take your tokens.
Staking adds validator and protocol risks. On proof-of-stake networks, delegating can expose you to validator downtime or penalties under the network’s rules; check the current dYdX Chain terms, unbonding period and validator commission before delegating. Governance can also change protocol settings, and voting does not guarantee a proposal will benefit every holder. DYDX’s market price may fall sharply, and past price movements do not predict future performance. Use only funds you can afford to lose, and verify transaction details before signing.
## How did DYDX move from Ethereum to its own chain?
dYdX began as an Ethereum-based trading project and later developed its own Cosmos SDK blockchain, dYdX Chain. DYDX became the governance token associated with the protocol, and the current chain uses it for staking and network governance. This shift means holders may encounter different DYDX representations across Ethereum-era, Cosmos and dYdX Chain contexts; check the network and asset carefully when moving older holdings.
The project is known for decentralized derivatives trading, especially perpetual contracts. That product activity does not make DYDX a claim on exchange revenue or a guarantee of access to trading features. The available project details do not establish a launch date for the token or provide a complete history of every migration and distribution. If you hold an older token representation, use current official migration instructions and verify the destination asset before taking action.

dYdX (DYDX) is ranked #308 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $78.9M and a price of $0.0932 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $89.3M, so roughly 88% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 11.1% over 7 days, down 31.2% over 30 days, down 72.2% over the past year. It trades about 98% below its all-time high of $4.52, set on Mar 7, 2024.
About 846.09M DYDX are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 1B (85% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $737K, or 0.9% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.
DYDX is the native token of dYdX; it also has token contracts on 2 chains we track, including Cosmos, Osmosis. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
