What does holding XCH actually give you?
Chia (XCH) is the native cryptocurrency of the Chia blockchain, a network built for payments and programmable transactions. Chia’s smart transaction language is called Chialisp. XCH can be used to transfer value on the network and pay transaction fees; it is not a share in Chia Network and does not promise a return.
Chia uses Proof of Space and Time rather than Bitcoin-style proof of work. Participants, often called farmers, commit unused disk space to help secure the network. That design does not remove the usual crypto risks: XCH’s price can fall sharply, transactions may be difficult to reverse, and the usefulness of the token depends in part on people continuing to use the network.
If you are considering holding XCH, separate the network’s technical design from the investment question. A blockchain can have smart-transaction features without guaranteeing broad adoption, reliable demand for its token, or future value.
Which chain and wallet should you use for XCH?
XCH belongs to the Chia blockchain. It is not an Ethereum or other EVM-network token by default, so an address for another chain may not be suitable for receiving it. Before sending, check that both the wallet and the exchange support native XCH on Chia mainnet, and confirm the receiving network shown on both sides.
You can use a wallet that explicitly supports Chia to hold the asset yourself, or leave XCH with a custodian such as an exchange. With self-custody, you control the keys but also take responsibility for protecting them and keeping recovery information safe. With a custodian, the company controls access and may impose withdrawal checks, limits, or service restrictions.
Do not rely on a token ticker alone when choosing a deposit network. If you are moving XCH for the first time, verify the address and network carefully and consider a small test transfer. A transfer sent to an unsupported network or address may not be recoverable.
How much XCH exists, and is there a supply cap?
As of November 8, 2026, about 19.2 million XCH were circulating, out of a reported total supply of about 35.6 million. A maximum supply is not listed in the project information used for these figures, so do not assume there is a fixed cap. Circulating and total supply are different measures: some tokens counted in total supply may not be freely available in the market.
Supply numbers can change as tokens are issued or otherwise enter circulation. Check the date and definition whenever you compare figures, and do not treat a market-cap estimate as a promise about what your holdings are worth later. At the same date, XCH was trading at about $1.20 and had fallen about 85.6% over the prior year. That illustrates the potential for substantial losses; it does not indicate what the price will do next.
If supply growth matters to your decision, look for current project disclosures about issuance and circulating supply. A supply figure on its own does not tell you whether there will be enough demand to support a particular price.
How can you store XCH without losing access?
For self-custody, use a wallet that explicitly supports native XCH and obtain it from a trusted source. Keep your recovery phrase or private keys offline, in a secure place, and never share them with a person claiming to provide support. Anyone who obtains those credentials may be able to move your funds, and a wallet provider generally cannot reverse a confirmed blockchain transaction.
Before sending XCH, check the address, network, and amount on the wallet screen. Be wary of unsolicited messages, fake wallet downloads, and websites asking you to enter a recovery phrase. Do not store the only copy of your recovery information on a device that could be lost, damaged, or compromised.
If you keep XCH on an exchange, secure the account with a unique password and available multi-factor authentication. Remember that this is custodial storage: you depend on the exchange to safeguard assets and process withdrawals. Keep records of which platform or wallet holds your XCH, and make sure your recovery plan can be used by you without exposing the keys.
What could go wrong when you hold XCH?
XCH carries market risk: its price can move sharply, and you could lose some or all of the value you put in. Trading activity can also be limited compared with larger cryptocurrencies, which may make it harder to sell quickly at a price you expect. A dated market price or valuation is only a snapshot, not a forecast.
There are also network and custody risks. A wallet, exchange, or application may pause support or withdrawals; a transaction sent to the wrong address may be irreversible; and losing your keys can mean losing access permanently. Chia’s technical approach and smart-transaction features do not remove software, security, adoption, or regulatory uncertainty.
Before holding XCH, decide how you will store it, how much loss you could tolerate, and whether you need access to the funds soon. Check that any service you use supports Chia mainnet withdrawals, not merely a similarly named token. Avoid relying on a single service or a promised future use case when judging whether the risk suits you.
By the numbers
Chia in numbers
Chia (XCH) is ranked #750 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $23.0M and a price of $1.20 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $42.6M, so roughly 54% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 6.3% over 7 days, down 19.4% over 30 days, down 85.6% over the past year. It trades about 100% below its all-time high of $1,645, set on May 15, 2021.
About 19.21M XCH are in circulation, from a total supply of 35.59M. No hard maximum supply is listed.
24-hour trading volume was about $304K, or 1.3% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.
CoinGecko groups XCH under Layer 1 tokens, DePIN tokens.

XCH FAQs
What is Chia (XCH) used for?
XCH is the native cryptocurrency of the Chia blockchain. It can be used to transfer value on the network and pay transaction fees.
Which wallet supports XCH?
Use a wallet that explicitly supports native XCH on Chia mainnet. Confirm the receiving network and address before sending, because XCH is not automatically interchangeable with tokens on other chains.
What is the circulating supply of XCH?
About 19.2 million XCH were circulating and about 35.6 million were reported as total supply on November 8, 2026. A maximum supply is not listed in the project information used for these figures.
How does Chia’s consensus work?
Chia uses Proof of Space and Time, which relies on committed disk space rather than proof-of-work mining. This design does not guarantee a particular level of energy use, network adoption, or token value.
Is XCH a risky cryptocurrency to hold?
XCH can lose value, and transactions sent to the wrong address may be irreversible. If you self-custody, losing or exposing your recovery phrase can also mean losing your funds.
What is the market cap of Chia?
As of Nov 8, 2026, Chia had a market cap of about $23.0M, ranking #750 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of XCH?
Chia's all-time high is $1,645, reached on May 15, 2021. Its all-time low is $1.14 (Nov 5, 2026). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
