Owning MNDE: Uses, Storage and Risks

MNDE is Marinade’s governance token. You can lock MNDE on Realms to vote on proposals about the protocol. Holding the token by itself does not give you the same thing as staking SOL through Marinade, and it does not automatically provide staking rewards or voting power: governance participation requires locking it.

Marinade’s staking service lets you stake SOL. Its liquid-staking option gives you mSOL, a token representing staked SOL that can be used in parts of Solana DeFi while your SOL remains staked. That is a separate product and token from MNDE. If your goal is SOL staking, check the current staking and unstaking terms before depositing; buying MNDE is not a substitute for staking SOL.

MNDE is issued on Solana, so you need a wallet that supports Solana tokens and the Solana network to hold it on-chain. Common Solana-compatible wallets include Phantom and Solflare. Before sending MNDE, confirm that the wallet supports the token and that you have selected Solana rather than another network.

Check the token mint address against Marinade’s official channels before accepting a transfer or adding a token manually. A matching ticker or token name is not proof that an asset is genuine; anyone can create a token with the same name. Send a small test amount first if you are unsure, and keep enough SOL in your wallet to cover network transaction fees. Never share your recovery phrase or private key with a site or person claiming to help you claim, vote with, or secure MNDE.

As of 2026-11-08, MNDE’s reported circulating supply was about 546.4 million, its total supply about 700 million, and its maximum supply 1 billion. These figures can change as tokens circulate, so check current token information before relying on them. A maximum supply is a cap, not a promise that every token is already in circulation.

Supply figures do not tell you how much voting power you will have: governance participation depends on locking MNDE, and proposal rules can affect how votes count. Nor do supply numbers tell you whether you can sell or transfer a particular amount at a desired price. If you are evaluating a holding, distinguish circulating supply from total and maximum supply, and treat market prices and trading liquidity as changing conditions rather than fixed features of the token.

MNDE is a volatile crypto asset, and its value can fall sharply. Governance tokens may also have limited practical utility if you do not intend to take part in protocol decisions. Locking MNDE can restrict your ability to transfer or sell it for the lock period; check the current rules and exit conditions before committing tokens.

If you use Marinade to stake SOL, understand that staking and liquid staking carry different risks from simply holding MNDE. mSOL’s value and ability to trade can be affected by market conditions, and withdrawing staked SOL may involve timing or protocol conditions. DeFi uses such as lending or liquidity provision can add smart-contract, liquidation, and liquidity risks. Do not treat staking rewards, token prices, or a ready market for an asset as guaranteed.

Store MNDE in a reputable Solana-compatible wallet, and protect the recovery phrase offline in a place only you control. A hardware wallet can reduce exposure to malware when signing transactions, but it cannot protect you if you approve a malicious transaction or disclose your recovery phrase. Keep a separate secure backup; anyone with the phrase can take the assets.

Before voting or locking tokens, check the proposal details, the destination program, the amount, and any lock or withdrawal conditions in your wallet. Be cautious of unsolicited messages, fake governance pages, and requests to connect your wallet or sign transactions to “verify” or “unlock” MNDE. Use Marinade’s official channels to find the correct governance destination, and review each transaction on your device before approving it.
