Owning IRYS: Uses, Wallets and Risks

IRYS pays for activity on Irys, a Layer 1 network designed to combine data storage with smart-contract execution. Its IrysVM provides an EVM execution layer, while the network offers term storage, which lasts for a chosen duration, and permanent storage, which is priced as a one-time payment for ongoing retention. The project describes storage and execution fees as uses for IRYS, along with validator staking.

For you as a holder, that means IRYS has a network-use role; it is not just a token associated with a storage project. But the token’s usefulness depends on people actually using Irys for storage, execution or staking. A stated purpose does not guarantee demand or value. Before sending tokens to pay for a service or staking, check that the wallet, network and service support the specific IRYS you hold.

The reported circulating supply is 2 billion IRYS, against a total supply of 10 billion. A maximum supply is not published. The gap between circulating and total supply matters: tokens not currently circulating may enter circulation later, depending on the project’s allocation and release arrangements. That can affect the proportion of the supply represented by your holdings. Check the current release information before relying on the circulating figure alone.
