What does owning GYEN mean during its wind-down?

GYEN is a Japanese yen-backed stablecoin issued by GMO-Z.com Trust Company. It is designed to track the yen, not the US dollar, so a dollar price well below $1 is not by itself evidence of a broken peg. But GYEN is in an orderly wind-down: new issuance has ceased, and you should not assume you can buy new tokens directly from the issuer or redeem them on demand.

Eligible holders who want to redeem directly with GMO Trust must apply through the GMO Trust Platform by November 11, 2026, subject to the issuer’s requirements. That deadline is close, so check your eligibility and application steps promptly if you may qualify. A token trading on an exchange does not automatically give every holder access to issuer redemption. If you are considering a purchase, first confirm that you can still use the token for your intended purpose and understand how you could exit it.

Which GYEN chain should your wallet support?

GYEN has been issued on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Solana and Stellar. It is not the native coin of any of those networks; it is a token represented separately on each chain. A wallet or exchange that supports GYEN on one network may not support it on another.

Before sending, check the exact network and token contract or asset details against a trusted source, then confirm that the receiving service supports deposits on that same network. Sending a token to an incompatible address or using the wrong network can make it difficult or impossible to recover. Do not assume that a bridge, exchange listing or wallet interface means the issuer will redeem that version. The project has not provided a universal wallet recommendation, so choose a wallet that explicitly supports the relevant chain and token. For a small test transfer, account for any network fees and check that the recipient can access the funds before moving a larger amount.

How much GYEN exists, and can you trade it easily?

The reported circulating and total supply are both about 384.2 million GYEN; no maximum supply is published. These are token counts, not a guarantee that every holder can redeem directly for yen. Issuer redemption is limited to eligible holders and subject to GMO Trust’s requirements, with applications due by November 11, 2026.

As of November 8, 2026, GYEN was trading at about $0.0062, with a reported market capitalization of about $2.4 million and 24-hour trading volume of about $44. Those figures can change quickly, and the very low reported volume may make it harder to trade at a price you expect. A yen stablecoin’s dollar value also moves with the yen-to-dollar exchange rate; it is not meant to stay at $1. Before relying on a quoted price, check the trading pair, available order depth, withdrawal status and network. A displayed market price is not the same as a guaranteed redemption value.

How can you store GYEN while reducing the main risks?

If you hold GYEN, decide first whether issuer redemption is an option for you and act before the November 11, 2026 deadline if you are eligible. If you keep tokens in a self-custody wallet, protect the recovery phrase offline, never share it, and verify the network and destination before every transfer. With an exchange account, secure it with a unique password and strong account authentication, and check whether GYEN deposits and withdrawals are currently enabled.

The main risks are practical as well as market-related: GYEN may trade away from its intended yen value, thin trading can make selling difficult, and the wind-down limits assumptions about future issuance and redemption. Sending on the wrong chain or interacting with a fake token can also lead to loss. Custody does not remove issuer or liquidity risk, and issuer redemption is not guaranteed for every holder. Avoid treating a wallet balance or exchange price as proof that you can convert the token into yen.
