What does holding AR let you do?
AR is the native token of Arweave, a network designed for long-term data storage. You may need AR to pay for uploading data and for transactions on the network. The protocol’s “pay once, store forever” model is aimed at archives and public content that should remain accessible, rather than files you expect to edit or delete regularly.
Holding AR does not itself store your files or guarantee that they will remain available. It gives you a token that can be used within the network; storage is a separate service paid for through a transaction. Arweave’s design uses an upfront payment and a storage endowment to support ongoing storage incentives, but permanence depends on the network continuing to operate and on its economic assumptions holding up.
If you only want to keep personal or confidential files, consider that data stored on a public blockchain may be difficult or impossible to remove. Do not upload secrets or identifying material unless you understand how it will be exposed and protected.
Which network and wallet should you use for AR?
Native AR lives on the Arweave network, which uses its own blockchain design and is not an Ethereum token. When sending AR, receiving it, or withdrawing it from an exchange, make sure the destination supports native Arweave and that you select the matching network. A deposit address for another chain is not interchangeable with an Arweave address.
Some services may offer wrapped or bridged AR on other chains. These are representations issued under another network’s rules, not the same asset as native AR held directly on Arweave. Their availability and supported routes can change, and moving between networks may involve a bridge or other intermediary.
Wallet options include software designed for Arweave, such as Wander. Before transferring a meaningful amount, check that the wallet supports the exact asset and network you intend to use. Keep your recovery phrase offline and private; anyone with access to it may be able to control the funds. Hardware-wallet compatibility can depend on the wallet software and its current support.
How much AR exists, and what can move its value?
Arweave’s maximum supply is 66 million AR. The reported circulating and total supply is about 65.7 million, as of 2026-11-08, so most of the stated maximum has been issued. The amount available can still change as remaining tokens are issued or distributed under network rules.
AR is used for storage payments and network transactions, and the protocol also uses token rewards to incentivize mining. Those uses can affect demand, while token issuance and holders’ decisions to transfer or retain AR affect the amount offered for sale. None of these factors establishes what AR should be worth.
As of 2026-11-08, AR was about $3.17, with a market capitalization of roughly $208 million. These are snapshots, not stable values: price and market capitalization can move sharply, and a token’s utility does not prevent losses. Check current figures independently before making a decision, and avoid treating a past price or supply statistic as a forecast.
How do you get and keep AR safely?
People generally obtain AR through a crypto exchange that supports it, or receive it from another holder. Exchange availability, identity checks, deposit methods and withdrawal networks vary by service and location. If you withdraw to a wallet, confirm that the exchange is sending native AR on Arweave and that your wallet can receive it.
For self-custody, use an Arweave-compatible wallet and protect its recovery phrase offline. A self-custody wallet puts transaction signing under your control, but it also means you are responsible for backups and for checking addresses before sending. An exchange account may be easier to access, but the exchange controls the keys and may restrict withdrawals.
A small test transfer can help you verify the address and network before sending a larger amount. Never share your recovery phrase with a person or website claiming to help you recover, validate or upgrade a wallet. There is no general way to reverse a completed blockchain transfer sent to the wrong address.
What does it cost to send AR or store data?
A transfer of native AR incurs an Arweave network fee, and uploading data has a separate storage cost that is generally based on the amount of data and current network conditions. The exact charge is not fixed: the amount quoted can change, and the dollar cost also moves with AR’s market price. Check the wallet or service’s displayed total before confirming a transaction.
If you use an exchange, it may set its own withdrawal charge in addition to the network fee. A transfer involving wrapped AR can add costs for the original chain, the destination chain and the bridge or service handling the move. Bridge availability and fees vary, so check both the asset representation and the full route before proceeding.
For storage, compare the quoted payment with the file size and consider whether a permanent, public record is actually suitable. A low upload charge does not mean the data can later be edited or deleted. Do not assume that uploading data and transferring AR have identical fees.
What can go wrong with AR or Arweave storage?
The main practical risk is treating “permanent storage” as a promise with no conditions. Arweave is designed to preserve data over the long term, but continued availability relies on miners, network operation and economic incentives. A project’s continued existence is never guaranteed by a token purchase or an upload fee.
Public blockchain data can be copied and may be difficult or impossible to remove. Check content rights and privacy before uploading; avoid personal information, passwords and confidential files. Also check the exact network when transferring AR. Sending native tokens to an incompatible address, or confusing native AR with a wrapped token, can result in loss or a difficult recovery.
AR’s market price can be volatile, and wallet software, exchanges and bridges each add operational or security risks. Watch for fake wallet downloads, impersonation and requests for your recovery phrase. Holding AR does not guarantee a return, and a storage use case does not remove the possibility of losing some or all of its market value.
How did Arweave’s storage model develop?
Arweave launched in 2018 as a blockchain-based storage project. Its design is commonly associated with a “blockweave” structure and proof of access: miners demonstrate access to older data as part of the process of adding blocks. This differs from a typical general-purpose blockchain’s focus on recording transactions alone.
The network’s storage model asks users to pay upfront, with an endowment intended to help fund storage over time. AR supports network fees and storage payments, and is also used in miner incentives. The project’s long-term promise depends on these mechanisms continuing to motivate participants; the word “permanent” should not be read as a guarantee against technical, economic or governance failures.
Arweave is also used for public web content and archival data. That makes it important to distinguish the network’s purpose from what an AR holder owns: holding the token does not give you ownership of stored files or an automatic share of storage revenue.

Arweave (AR) is ranked #154 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $208M and a price of $3.17 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($208M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.
The price was up 0.7% over 7 days, down 22.1% over 30 days, down 58.6% over the past year. It trades about 96% below its all-time high of $89.24, set on Nov 4, 2021.
About 65.65M AR are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 66M (99% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $4.29M, or 2.1% of its market cap: moderate turnover.

AR FAQs
What is AR used for?
AR is the native token of the Arweave network. It is used for network transactions and storage payments, and the network uses token rewards to incentivize miners.
Is AR an Ethereum token?
Native AR is on Arweave, not Ethereum. Some services may offer wrapped versions on other networks, but those are separate representations and require support for the specific chain and asset.
Is data on Arweave really permanent?
Arweave is designed for long-term storage, but permanence is not an unconditional guarantee. Availability depends on the network, its participants and its economic incentives; public data may also be difficult or impossible to remove.
What is the maximum supply of AR?
The maximum supply is 66 million AR, with about 65.7 million reported as circulating and total supply as of 2026-11-08. Supply figures can change as remaining tokens are issued or distributed.
Which wallet can hold AR?
You need a wallet that supports native Arweave and AR, such as an Arweave-compatible software wallet. Verify network support before sending, and keep your recovery phrase private and offline.
What is the market cap of Arweave?
As of Nov 8, 2026, Arweave had a market cap of about $208M, ranking #154 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of AR?
Arweave's all-time high is $89.24, reached on Nov 4, 2021. Its all-time low is $0.2988 (Jan 30, 2020). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
What is the circulating supply of AR?
As of Nov 8, 2026, about 65.65M AR were in circulation, against a maximum supply of 66M.
