What does Siacoin pay for?

Siacoin (SC) is the payment token for Sia, a peer-to-peer storage network. You can use SC to pay hosts for storing data, and hosts receive payment for providing storage. Sia uses blockchain contracts to record storage agreements; files are encrypted, split into pieces and stored across different hosts.

That gives SC a practical role within Sia, but holding SC is not the same as renting storage. You do not need to store files on Sia just because you own the token, and owning SC does not guarantee storage access or income. If you are considering SC, decide whether you want to use the network or simply hold a volatile crypto asset. Its usefulness depends on demand for Sia storage and the network’s ability to serve that demand.

Which network and wallet should you use for SC?

SC runs on Sia’s own blockchain, rather than being a token issued on Ethereum or another general-purpose network. The network uses proof of work and Blake2b hashing. When you transfer SC, choose a wallet and deposit or withdrawal service that explicitly supports native Siacoin on Sia; a similarly named wrapped token on another chain is not interchangeable.

Use a wallet that gives you control of your private keys if you want self-custody. Before sending a meaningful amount, check that the receiving service supports the correct network and, if possible, make a small test transfer. Wallet software and exchange support can change, so confirm compatibility in the wallet or service you plan to use. Never assume that an address for another asset or network can receive SC.

How much SC exists, and what can its price tell you?

As of 2026-11-08, about 49.75 billion SC were circulating, matching the reported total supply. No maximum supply is listed, so do not assume there is a fixed cap. The token’s supply and market value are different questions: the number of coins you hold does not tell you what they are worth.

SC was trading at about $0.000684 on 2026-11-08, with a market capitalization of about $34 million. These are snapshots, not stable values. Crypto prices can move sharply, and a relatively low price per coin does not mean a token is cheap or likely to rise. If you are deciding whether to hold SC, consider how much volatility you can tolerate and whether you can afford to lose the amount at risk.

How can you store SC without losing access?

For self-custody, keep your wallet recovery phrase offline and private. Anyone who gets it may be able to control the SC in that wallet. Do not enter it into a website, send it to someone claiming to offer support, or store an unprotected copy in email or cloud storage. Use a secure device and keep your wallet software up to date.

Before a transfer, check the asset and network shown by both the sending and receiving services, then verify the destination address. A small test transfer can help catch a network or address mistake. If you keep SC with an exchange, the exchange controls the keys and may restrict withdrawals; review its custody and account-security arrangements. There is no general way to reverse a crypto transfer sent to the wrong address.

What could go wrong when you hold or use SC?

SC carries ordinary crypto risks: its price can fall substantially, trading or withdrawal support can change, and mistakes with addresses or recovery phrases can cause permanent loss. A wallet can protect access to your tokens, but it cannot protect their market value. Be cautious of unsolicited offers to buy, recover or manage your SC, and never share your seed phrase or private key.

Using Sia storage adds a separate set of considerations. Data is encrypted and distributed across hosts, but you still need to manage your encryption keys and confirm that the storage setup suits your backup and retrieval needs. A decentralized service is not a promise that every file will always be available. Keep an independent backup of important files and understand the storage terms and costs before relying on Sia for anything essential.

By the numbers

Siacoin in numbers

Siacoin (SC) is ranked #582 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $34.0M and a price of $0.0006843 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($34.0M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.

The price was down 10.1% over 7 days, down 28.3% over 30 days, down 68.4% over the past year. It trades about 99% below its all-time high of $0.0929, set on Jan 5, 2018.

About 49.75B SC are in circulation. No hard maximum supply is listed, so new tokens can still be issued.

24-hour trading volume was about $2.27M, or 6.7% of its market cap: moderate turnover.

SC FAQs

What is Siacoin used for?

SC is used to pay hosts for storage on the Sia network, and hosts receive SC for providing that service. You can also hold or transfer it as a cryptocurrency.

Which blockchain does Siacoin use?

Native SC runs on Sia’s own blockchain. Use a wallet or exchange that explicitly supports SC on the Sia network, rather than assuming a token with the same ticker on another chain is equivalent.

What is Siacoin’s total supply?

About 49.75 billion SC were circulating as of 2026-11-08, matching the reported total supply. No maximum supply is listed, so a fixed cap should not be assumed.

How do I keep Siacoin safe?

Keep your recovery phrase offline and never share it; anyone with the phrase may control your wallet. Verify the network and address before sending, because crypto transfers generally cannot be reversed.

Does holding SC mean my files are stored on Sia?

No. Owning SC does not itself store files or guarantee access to storage. You need to arrange storage through Sia separately and manage your files and encryption keys.

What is the market cap of Siacoin?

As of Nov 8, 2026, Siacoin had a market cap of about $34.0M, ranking #582 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.

What is the all-time high of SC?

Siacoin's all-time high is $0.0929, reached on Jan 5, 2018. Its all-time low is $0.00001262 (Dec 27, 2015). Past prices say nothing about future returns.

What is the circulating supply of SC?

As of Nov 8, 2026, about 49.75B SC were in circulation; no fixed maximum supply is listed.
