Owning ANT: Uses, Storage and Risks

ANT is the token associated with Autonomi, a decentralised network for storing and retrieving data. The project describes ANT as part of the network’s economy: users pay a one-time fee to upload data, and people who provide storage resources can earn ANT. Holding the token alone does not mean you are providing storage or earning rewards.

Autonomi says its network is designed to store data across independent devices rather than rely on one service provider. It also describes uploads as encrypted end to end. Those are project claims, not a guarantee that data will always be available, private or recoverable. If you are considering ANT, separate the network’s intended use from the token’s market value: demand for storage does not automatically translate into a higher token price.

ANT is issued on Arbitrum; the available chain information does not identify it as the native token of a separate blockchain. To hold or transfer it, use a wallet that supports Arbitrum assets and the specific ANT token. Check the token’s contract address against Autonomi’s official documentation before adding it or sending funds. A ticker alone is not enough to distinguish genuine ANT from a lookalike token.

You will generally need ETH on Arbitrum to pay network gas for transactions. Confirm that both the wallet and any exchange you use support ANT on Arbitrum, and check the withdrawal network before sending. A transfer to an address on the wrong chain may be difficult or impossible to recover. If you use a wallet that allows custom tokens, adding ANT for display does not itself move or purchase the token.

ANT has a maximum and total supply of 1.2 billion tokens. About 346 million were circulating as of 2026-11-08, so the circulating amount was well below the stated cap. The gap between circulating and maximum supply can matter: future releases or changes in the amount available to trade may affect dilution, though the supply figures alone do not show when or how tokens will enter circulation.

As of 2026-11-08, ANT’s market capitalisation was about $9.9 million and its fully diluted valuation was about $34.2 million. Those figures are snapshots, not fixed values. Trading volume was about $92,000 over the preceding 24 hours, which can make it harder to trade a larger amount without affecting the price. Check current token and supply details before making a decision, and do not treat the maximum supply as a price floor.

For self-custody, choose a wallet that supports Arbitrum and ANT, then secure its recovery phrase offline. Never share the phrase or enter it into a site or message claiming to fix, verify or upgrade your wallet. Anyone who gets the phrase can usually control the assets, and a lost phrase may leave you unable to recover them.

Before transferring a significant amount, verify the network and recipient address, and consider a small test transaction. Keep some ETH on Arbitrum for transaction fees. A hardware wallet can reduce exposure of signing keys to an internet-connected device, but only if it supports the relevant network and you verify each transaction on the device. If you leave ANT with an exchange, you rely on that service to safeguard and release your assets; check its custody and withdrawal arrangements rather than assuming exchange balances are equivalent to tokens in your own wallet.

ANT can lose value sharply, and smaller trading volume can make a trade harder to execute at the price you expect. On 2026-11-08, the reported 24-hour volume was about $92,000; volume changes, so check current market conditions before trading. A stated supply cap does not prevent losses or guarantee demand.

There are also network and custody risks. A wallet mistake, compromised recovery phrase, incorrect chain selection or fake ANT token can result in lost funds. Autonomi’s goal of persistent storage is not a guarantee that every file will remain available indefinitely; network operation, software, node participation and data retrieval can all matter. Treat claims about encryption and permanence as design aims, not a substitute for keeping your own important backups. Do not upload sensitive or irreplaceable material without understanding how access and recovery work.
