Lagoon Review: Is Its Curated Vault Model Right for You?

Lagoon is vault infrastructure, not a single yield product: you choose a vault run by a curator, and its strategy and risks matter as much as the platform. Check withdrawal terms, fees and audit scope for that specific vault before depositing.

SkyBitcoins rating

Quick take

Lagoon may suit experienced users who want to compare curated on-chain strategies across multiple networks. Its main draw is infrastructure for many kinds of vault, with asynchronous deposit and withdrawal processing. But Lagoon is not the strategy manager for every vault, and returns are not guaranteed. Before depositing, read the vault’s terms for fees, settlement timing, curator, contract audits and what assets or protocols it uses.

Is it for you?

Who Lagoon suits

Good for

  • Crypto users comparing curated on-chain yield strategies and willing to assess each vault separately
  • Asset managers or curators who want to launch and operate on-chain vaults
  • Experienced users who understand that asynchronous settlement can delay access to funds

Not for

  • People who need instant, predictable access to deposited funds; withdrawals are asynchronous and vault-specific
  • Beginners looking for a guaranteed rate or a single, simple savings product; each curator sets a different strategy and risk profile
  • Users who want a clearly published platform-wide fee schedule or a single audit covering every vault

What are you actually depositing into on Lagoon?

Lagoon provides infrastructure for on-chain vaults; it is not one fund with a single strategy or return. You choose a public vault, deposit the supported asset and take exposure to that vault’s curator and strategy. Lagoon’s site shows examples spanning market-neutral crypto, directional strategies, fixed income, private credit and PayFi. Vaults can allocate across protocols, chains and venues, and some strategies may involve off-chain activity.

That range is useful if you want to compare different approaches in one place, but it makes vault selection essential. Check the underlying assets, how the curator intends to generate returns, whether the strategy uses leverage or counterparties, and what could cause losses. Net APR displays are snapshots over specified periods, not forecasts or guarantees. Lagoon’s infrastructure does not remove the market, smart-contract, liquidity or manager risks of an individual vault.

What will Lagoon vaults cost you?

There is no single published fee schedule for every Lagoon vault. Fees and their treatment depend on the vault’s terms; Lagoon’s site describes tools for curators to manage fees but does not give a platform-wide rate. Before depositing, find out whether the curator charges a management or performance fee, how it is calculated, and whether any withdrawal or other charges apply.

You may also pay the network’s transaction fee when you interact with a vault. That cost varies by chain and network conditions. A displayed net APR may already account for some vault expenses, but do not assume it covers every cost you will incur. Check how the vault defines “net,” what period its return figure covers and whether fees can change. If the vault’s fee terms are unclear, ask the curator or choose a vault with terms you can understand before committing funds.

How much should you trust Lagoon with your funds?

Lagoon says its infrastructure is audited and lists two audits. That is a useful starting point, not a guarantee that every vault, contract version or strategy has been reviewed. Check the audit reports for the exact contracts you will use, their scope and any unresolved findings. A vault can also rely on other protocols or operational processes that an audit of Lagoon’s core contracts may not cover.

The curator matters too: it decides how capital is deployed and may handle valuation, settlement and reporting. Lagoon supports custody arrangements such as Safe, Fordefi and Fireblocks, but the setup and control model can vary by vault. Review who can move funds, change strategy parameters or pause activity, and what happens if a curator or integrated protocol fails. Lagoon does not publish a single licence covering all vaults; check the legal and access terms for the particular product and your location. Depositing into a vault carries a risk of losing some or all of your funds.

What is using a Lagoon vault like?

Lagoon’s site describes support across 18+ chains and advertises vault browsing and deployment tools. Which network and deposit asset you can use depends on the individual vault, so confirm both before connecting your wallet. Lagoon also offers a GraphQL API for integrating vault data into other interfaces; that is mainly relevant to developers and asset managers, rather than necessary for a basic deposit.

The key operational detail is ERC-7540’s asynchronous processing. A deposit or withdrawal may involve a request followed by a later settlement, rather than an immediate exchange. Lagoon does not provide one universal processing time or withdrawal limit for all vaults. Read the vault’s settlement schedule, minimums and any queue or liquidity conditions before sending funds. Check the network shown in your wallet, the token contract and the destination vault carefully; transactions on the wrong network or to the wrong address may be difficult or impossible to recover.

When might Lagoon be the wrong choice?

Lagoon’s flexibility is also a reason to be selective. A vault interface can make different strategies look similar, but the assets, counterparties, liquidity and curator controls behind them can differ substantially. Depositing into a private-credit or off-chain strategy, for example, can involve risks that are not captured by the vault’s on-chain balance alone. Read how the vault values its assets and what happens if repayments or settlements are delayed.

Access rules differ too: Lagoon says curators can leave vaults open or require whitelisting, KYC checks or sanctions screening. Do not assume every vault is available to every user. Check the terms and eligibility rules before connecting a wallet. Lagoon does not publish a universal withdrawal time or fee for the whole platform, so a vault that looks attractive on its return display may not suit you if you need quick liquidity or cannot verify its controls.

What should you check before making your first deposit?

Start by treating the vault—not Lagoon as a whole—as the product you are evaluating. Use these checks before committing funds:

  1. Open the vault’s terms and confirm its supported deposit asset, network, access rules and minimums.
  2. Identify the curator, strategy, underlying protocols and any off-chain counterparties; decide whether you understand the main ways the vault could lose value.
  3. Check the fee calculation, how displayed net returns are defined, and whether rates are historical rather than promised.
  4. Read the withdrawal and settlement process, including any queue, timing or liquidity conditions.
  5. Verify the relevant contract addresses and audit scope, and check who can control or upgrade the vault.
  6. If you proceed, begin with an amount you can afford to lose and keep enough funds for network fees.

If you cannot confirm the terms or explain how withdrawals work, do not deposit until the curator answers your questions.

5 steps

How to start with Lagoon

  1. 1

Choose a vault and confirm its supported network, deposit asset and eligibility rules.

  2. 2

Read the vault’s strategy, curator information, fee terms, settlement schedule and withdrawal conditions.

  3. 3

Check the audit reports and contract details for the specific vault and version; review who controls the vault.

  4. 4

Connect a compatible wallet on the correct network, then verify the vault address and transaction details before depositing.

  5. 5

Keep a record of your deposit and check how to request and track asynchronous withdrawals.

Lagoon FAQs

How much yield can you earn with Lagoon?

No single Lagoon yield rate applies. Returns depend on each vault’s strategy and market conditions, and displayed rates can change. Treat past or short-window APR figures as historical, not promised returns.

How do Lagoon vault withdrawals work?

Lagoon uses the ERC-7540 standard for asynchronous deposits and withdrawals. That means a request may need to be processed before funds are available; check the chosen vault’s settlement schedule and withdrawal rules before you deposit.

Is Lagoon audited?

Lagoon lists two audits, but you should check the reports for the specific vault and contract version you plan to use. An audit is not a guarantee against bugs, curator mistakes or losses from a strategy.

Does Lagoon require KYC?

Lagoon says vaults can be open to everyone or gated with whitelists, KYC checks and sanctions screening. Requirements therefore depend on the vault; check its eligibility rules before connecting a wallet.

Does Lagoon have a token?

Lagoon has no token listed. The platform provides infrastructure for vaults, and depositing means taking exposure to a particular vault’s assets and strategy, not buying a Lagoon token.
