## What does holding GRC let you do?
Gridcoin (GRC) is a cryptocurrency built around rewarding participation in distributed scientific computing. Its Proof-of-Research system links eligible computing work through BOINC, a platform that lets people contribute spare computer capacity to research projects. Gridcoin also uses proof of stake on its own blockchain. GRC can be earned through eligible research participation and staking, and it can be transferred or traded where supported.
That does not make GRC a guaranteed payment for running any BOINC task. You need to follow Gridcoin’s current setup requirements, and rewards can depend on factors such as eligible work, network rules and staking. The project is best understood as a specialized coin for its own network and research-reward system, not as a general-purpose token issued on Ethereum or another major smart-contract chain. If your main reason for holding it is a potential reward, check the current client and participation rules before spending time or electricity on setup.
## Which chain and wallet do you need for GRC?
GRC runs on the Gridcoin blockchain, a separate network rather than a token contract on Ethereum, Solana or another chain. That matters when you send it: the receiving wallet or exchange must support native Gridcoin deposits, and you should not choose a network just because its name appears in a wallet’s list. A transfer sent to an incompatible address or chain may be difficult or impossible to recover.
The Gridcoin wallet is the main native option for interacting with the network. BOINC is also part of the research-reward setup, but it is not a GRC wallet: it manages computing participation, while Gridcoin software handles the coin. Before transferring GRC, check the wallet’s current support, the address format and whether any additional information is required. Hardware-wallet support and a broad selection of third-party wallets are not established by the project details here, so do not assume a device or exchange supports GRC until you verify it directly.
## How much GRC exists, and can you sell it easily?
GRC does not have a published maximum supply. As of 2026-11-08, the circulating supply was about 506.1 million GRC and total supply about 543.7 million GRC. These figures can change as network issuance and circulating-supply estimates change; they are not a promise that the supply will stop growing at a particular level.
For context, GRC’s market capitalization was about $3.0 million on that date, and reported 24-hour trading volume was about $5. Those are point-in-time figures, not measures of what you could receive for a large sale. In particular, very low reported volume can mean that a quoted price does not translate into a reliable exit price: an order may move the market, take time to fill or fail to fill. Check live market conditions and the specific venue’s order book before relying on a displayed valuation.
## How can you store GRC without losing access?
Keep GRC in a wallet you control if you understand how to maintain and back it up; an exchange account leaves custody with the exchange. For the Gridcoin wallet, follow its current backup and restore instructions. Store wallet files or recovery material offline in a secure place, protect them from theft and damage, and never share a private key or recovery phrase with someone who contacts you. Do not assume a recovery phrase exists or works unless the wallet’s own documentation confirms it.
Before moving a meaningful amount, test the address and network carefully, then consider a small test transfer. Keep your computer and wallet software updated, and download software only from a source you have independently verified. If you use an exchange, enable available account security protections and check its GRC withdrawal rules before depositing. A backup protects against some device failures, but it cannot reverse a mistaken transfer or protect you if someone obtains your signing credentials.
## What could go wrong if you hold or earn GRC?
GRC carries the usual crypto risks, with additional practical hurdles from its specialized research-reward setup. A small market capitalization and very low reported trading volume can make it hard to sell at a quoted price. The value can also fall sharply, and neither staking nor contributing computing work guarantees a profit or a particular reward. Treat any GRC you hold as money you could lose.
Research participation may require you to install and configure both Gridcoin software and BOINC, and to check that your work qualifies under the network’s current rules. Running computing tasks can use electricity and hardware resources even if rewards are small or absent. You also depend on keeping wallet software and backups secure. Gridcoin’s lack of a published maximum supply means you should not assume a fixed supply cap. Before participating or holding more, weigh these costs and risks against your reasons for using the network.
By the numbers
Gridcoin in numbers
Gridcoin (GRC) is ranked #2,025 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $2.98M and a price of $0.005894 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $3.20M, so roughly 93% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 1.1% over 7 days, down 26.3% over 30 days, up 187% over the past year. It trades about 97% below its all-time high of $0.2142, set on Jan 8, 2018.
About 506.09M GRC are in circulation, from a total supply of 543.73M. No hard maximum supply is listed.
24-hour trading volume was about $5, or 0.0% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

GRC FAQs
How does Gridcoin work?
Gridcoin uses Proof-of-Research to connect GRC rewards with eligible computing work through BOINC, and its blockchain also uses proof of stake. Rewards are not guaranteed; participation and wallet setup must meet the network’s current rules.
Does GRC have a maximum supply?
No maximum supply is published. As of 2026-11-08, circulating supply was about 506.1 million GRC and total supply about 543.7 million GRC.
What network is GRC on?
GRC runs on the native Gridcoin blockchain, not as a token on Ethereum or Solana. Use a wallet or exchange that explicitly supports Gridcoin, and confirm the network and address before sending.
Where can I store Gridcoin?
The Gridcoin wallet is the native wallet option, while BOINC is used for computing participation rather than storing coins. Check current wallet support and backup instructions before transferring GRC; do not assume other wallets or hardware devices support it.
Can you earn GRC with BOINC?
Gridcoin can be earned through eligible BOINC research participation and staking, subject to network rules. Computing costs, setup requirements and changing rewards mean you should not assume the activity will be profitable.
What is the market cap of Gridcoin?
As of Nov 8, 2026, Gridcoin had a market cap of about $2.98M, ranking #2,025 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of GRC?
Gridcoin's all-time high is $0.2142, reached on Jan 8, 2018. Its all-time low is $0.0006065 (Jun 3, 2015). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
What is the circulating supply of GRC?
As of Nov 8, 2026, about 506.09M GRC were in circulation; no fixed maximum supply is listed.
