What can you use BTS for?
BTS is the native token of the BitShares blockchain, a network built for trading digital assets. BitShares uses delegated proof of stake: BTS holders can vote for block producers, and BTS is used for network functions such as paying transaction fees. The network also has a reserve pool for funding approved projects.
That makes BTS a network asset, not a share in a company or a claim on exchange profits. If you hold it, its practical use depends on whether you want to use BitShares itself—for example, to send transactions or participate in the network. Check that the specific asset or service you plan to use is still active before transferring funds. BTS’s role within the network does not guarantee demand, a particular market price, or a return.
Which chain and wallets support BTS?
BTS belongs to the BitShares blockchain. It is not identified as a token issued on Ethereum or another external chain, so do not assume an Ethereum address or an ordinary EVM wallet can receive it. Before sending, confirm that the wallet or exchange supports BTS on the BitShares network, and check its deposit and withdrawal instructions.
Choose a wallet that explicitly supports BitShares and lets you control the keys if you want self-custody. You can also hold BTS with a trading platform, but then the platform controls the keys and may limit withdrawals. Test a new wallet setup by checking the receiving account and network details carefully; a small test transfer can help catch an address or network mismatch. If you use a recovery phrase, keep it private and offline. Never enter it into a wallet link sent by a stranger.
How many BTS tokens are there?
As of 2026-11-08, reported circulating and total supply were both about 3.00 billion BTS. The reported maximum supply was about 3.60 billion. These figures describe the token supply, not how much is available to trade at a particular moment; exchange balances and market liquidity can differ.
The same date, BTS traded at about $0.000849, but prices move and this is not a current quote. Supply figures can also change, so check a current market or BitShares network source before relying on them for a transaction or comparison. A stated maximum supply does not mean the token is scarce in a way that supports its price. Consider both the number of tokens and the network’s ongoing use when assessing what holding BTS means for you.
How should you store BTS safely?
For self-custody, use a wallet that clearly supports the BitShares network and keep its recovery phrase somewhere offline and private. Anyone who gets that phrase may be able to control your BTS. Do not share it with support agents, enter it into unsolicited websites, or save an unencrypted copy in email or cloud storage. Keep your device and wallet software updated, and use a strong device passcode.
Before a transfer, check the recipient account and network in the wallet itself. If you are moving BTS from an exchange, confirm that the exchange supports BitShares withdrawals and follow its required format; a deposit address for another asset or chain may not work. A small test transfer is sensible when the route is unfamiliar. For platform custody, review withdrawal access and account-security options, and understand that you depend on the platform to safeguard and release your assets.
What are the main risks of holding BTS?
BTS carries market risk: its price can fall sharply, and a low unit price does not mean it is undervalued or likely to recover. Trading volume and liquidity can be limited, which may make it harder to sell at the price you expect. The token has also traded far below its 2018 all-time high, a reminder that past prices do not set a floor or predict future performance.
There are also network and custody risks. A wallet that does not support BitShares may not be able to access or recover a transfer, while losing a self-custody recovery phrase can mean losing access permanently. If you use an exchange, you face its operational and withdrawal risks. Before holding BTS, decide whether you need the network’s functions, verify that the tools you plan to use still support it, and only risk money you can afford to lose.

What is BTS used for?
BTS is the native token of the BitShares blockchain. It is used for network functions including transaction fees and participation in delegated proof of stake.
Is BTS an ERC-20 token?
BTS belongs to the BitShares network. Check that a wallet or exchange supports BTS on BitShares before sending; support for another chain or token with a similar name is not enough.

How do I store BTS?
Use a wallet that explicitly supports the BitShares network, and keep your recovery phrase private and offline. Confirm the network and recipient details before every transfer.
Is BTS a risky token to hold?
BTS can be highly volatile, and limited liquidity may affect the price you can get when trading. You also face risks from network compatibility, lost recovery phrases and exchange custody.
