What can you use BUSD for now?
BUSD is a dollar-pegged stablecoin intended to represent one US dollar per token. You might use it to hold a dollar-denominated balance in crypto, transfer value, or trade against other assets without converting back to a bank account. Its intended value is not a promise that you can always sell one BUSD for exactly one dollar on an exchange.
BUSD is no longer being newly issued. That makes it different from an actively minted stablecoin: the available supply can shrink as tokens are redeemed, while trading access and liquidity may vary across platforms. Before accepting BUSD as payment or using it in a trade, check whether the service still supports it and whether you can withdraw or redeem it afterward. Treat the dollar peg as a design goal, not as a guarantee against loss.
Which network and wallet do you need for BUSD?
BUSD is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, not Ethereum’s native currency. You need ETH to pay Ethereum network fees when you send it, and a wallet must support Ethereum tokens to display and transfer it. The token is not reported as native to another chain, so don’t assume a BUSD balance on one network can be sent directly to an address on another.
Before making a transfer, confirm that the receiving service accepts BUSD on Ethereum and check the network selected in your wallet. Sending tokens to an unsupported network or address can make them difficult or impossible to recover. If a platform offers a bridged or wrapped version of BUSD, that is a separate arrangement with additional risks; verify what token you would actually receive rather than treating every asset labelled BUSD as interchangeable.
How much BUSD remains, and can you redeem it?
About 34.4 million BUSD were in circulation as of November 8, 2026, and the reported total supply was about the same. No maximum supply is listed. These figures can change as tokens are redeemed or otherwise removed from circulation. BUSD’s market price was about $0.998 as of that date; a small deviation from one dollar is still possible, and market prices change.
Paxos no longer mints new BUSD. Paxos says its customers can redeem BUSD for US dollars or convert it to USDP, but that does not mean every holder has direct access to those options. Check eligibility, account requirements, and the current redemption process before relying on redemption at par. If you hold BUSD through an exchange or another service, your ability to cash out may depend on that service’s support and withdrawal rules.
What should you check before storing BUSD?
Keep BUSD only in a wallet or account that explicitly supports the Ethereum version of the token. For a self-custody wallet, protect your recovery phrase offline and never share it with someone offering to help you redeem or migrate tokens. Check the token and network details before approving a transaction; fake support messages and lookalike tokens can lead to irreversible losses.
The main BUSD-specific concern is that new issuance has stopped. That can limit liquidity and make it harder to exchange the token, even if its intended peg is one dollar. The market price can move away from the peg, and a wallet balance is not the same as a guaranteed cash claim. BUSD was described as approved by the New York State Department of Financial Services, but that historic description should not be treated as proof of current regulatory status or a guarantee of repayment. Consider whether you have a practical exit route before holding it.

About 34.42M BUSD are in circulation. No hard maximum supply is listed, so new tokens can still be issued.
24-hour trading volume was about $173, or 0.0% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.
BUSD has token contracts on Ethereum. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
