AirSwap (AST): What Holding It Means

AirSwap is a decentralized exchange project built around peer-to-peer token trades. Its Swap protocol is designed to help traders find counterparties and get pricing suggestions, with trades settled on-chain. That describes the trading system; it does not by itself tell you what holding AST entitles you to.

AST is AirSwap’s token, but the project details here do not establish that holders receive trading-fee discounts, governance rights, staking rewards, or a share of exchange activity. Don’t assume AST is needed to use the trading protocol, either. Before treating the token as anything more than an asset you can hold or transfer, check AirSwap’s current documentation for specific holder rights and any token-related functions.

If you are considering AST, separate the project’s use of peer-to-peer trading from the token’s own utility. A useful question is not only whether AirSwap’s trading model interests you, but also what concrete role AST has today.

AST is an ERC-20 token issued on Ethereum, rather than a native coin with its own blockchain. To hold or transfer it, use a wallet that supports Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens. A hardware wallet can add protection for your recovery phrase if it supports Ethereum assets, but you still need to confirm the wallet is set to the correct network.

When moving AST, check the token name, ticker, and contract address against a trusted AirSwap or Ethereum reference before sending. Tickers can be copied, and sending tokens to the wrong network or address may be difficult or impossible to reverse. Make sure you have enough ETH in the wallet to pay Ethereum transaction fees; AST itself does not pay those fees.

AirSwap’s peer-to-peer trading design is not a reason to connect your wallet to an unfamiliar trading page. Review the transaction details and requested permissions before approving them.

AST has a maximum supply of 500 million tokens. The reported total supply is also 500 million, with about 324.3 million in circulation as of November 8, 2026. The difference between circulating and total supply means some tokens are not counted as circulating; these figures do not, on their own, explain when or whether those tokens might enter circulation.

Supply numbers do not tell you how much demand exists or what a token should be worth. They also do not show whether AST holders have rights over AirSwap’s trading activity. Check for current token-distribution information if the amount held outside circulation matters to your decision.

The circulating figure can change over time, so treat it as a dated snapshot rather than a permanent count. Avoid relying on an old supply figure when assessing a wallet balance or comparing tokens.

For self-custody, store AST in a wallet you control and protect the wallet’s recovery phrase offline. Never share that phrase, type it into a site claiming to verify your AST, or keep the only copy somewhere that could be lost with your phone or computer. A hardware wallet can keep signing keys separate from an internet-connected device, but it cannot make a mistaken transaction safe.

Use a unique password and enable strong account security wherever you use a custodial exchange. If you leave AST with a service, you rely on that company’s security and withdrawal policies rather than controlling the tokens directly. For a transfer, send a small test amount first if practical, then confirm the recipient address and network before sending the remainder.

When connecting to a trading application, read each wallet prompt. A transaction approval can grant permission to move tokens; revoke permissions you no longer need using a trusted Ethereum tool.

AST carries both token and trading-related risks. A peer-to-peer design can help traders discover counterparties and pricing, but it does not guarantee a fair quote, a completed trade, or protection from a malicious counterparty. Before signing a trade, verify the assets, amount, recipient, and any fee shown in your wallet. Check AirSwap’s current fee terms and security information rather than assuming that on-chain settlement makes every step risk-free.

Ethereum transaction fees vary, and a signed transaction may be irreversible. A malicious site or overly broad token approval can put assets at risk, so avoid unknown interfaces and review permissions carefully. AST can also be hard to sell at a desired price if trading activity or available liquidity is limited.

As of November 8, 2026, AST’s reported price was about $0.0049 and its market capitalization about $1.6 million. These are dated, changing figures, not a forecast; a smaller market can experience sharp price moves and limited trading depth.
