Flex Perpetuals Review: Is It Safe to Use?

Flex Perpetuals advertises leveraged, self-custodial trading on Base, but its documentation includes a wind-down notice. Check that trading is still operating before connecting a wallet or depositing collateral.

By the SkyBitcoins review team · Updated

Quick take

Flex Perpetuals may suit experienced Base traders who want cross-margin perpetuals across crypto, FX and commodities, plus multiple collateral options. Its main draw is the advertised combination of up to 100x leverage and gasless order management. But check that the app is still operating before connecting a wallet: Flex's documentation includes a wind-down notice, and its current fees and audit findings need verification.

What can you trade on Flex Perpetuals?

Flex Perpetuals is a Base-based protocol for trading perpetual contracts, which let you take leveraged positions without owning the underlying asset. It advertises crypto, FX and commodity markets, cross-margining, and BTC, ETH and USDC as collateral. Cross-margin can let positions share collateral, but it also means losses in one position may put funds supporting other positions at risk.

Flex advertises leverage up to 100x. At that level, a small move against your position can trigger liquidation, so the maximum should not be treated as a sensible default. The protocol also describes gasless trading and order management, account abstraction, subaccounts and a Python SDK for algorithmic trading. These are product claims, not a guarantee that every feature or market is currently available.

The documentation includes a wind-down notice, even as Flex continues to be described as a trading platform elsewhere. Treat operational status as uncertain. Do not send collateral until you can confirm the app is live, markets are open and withdrawals are functioning.

What will trading on Flex cost you?

Flex promotes gasless trade execution and order management, but gasless does not mean cost-free. Perpetuals commonly involve trading fees, bid-ask spreads and funding payments between long and short positions; these costs can add up, especially if you trade frequently or keep positions open. Flex's promotional material does not give a complete, current fee schedule, spread information or funding-rate examples, so you cannot reliably calculate your trading costs from its headline claims alone.

The protocol also says it returns 90% of platform revenue to liquidity providers and token holders through revenue sharing and token buybacks. That is a stated allocation model, not a guaranteed return. The amount available can depend on protocol revenue, the distribution rules and the assets or staking positions required to participate. Flex also promotes incentives and points, but you should not treat them as cash or assume they will have value.

Before opening a position, check the interface for the current trading fee, funding rate, spread and liquidation terms. Include those costs in your risk calculation rather than relying on the phrase “gasless.”

How much should you trust Flex with collateral?

Flex describes the platform as self-custodial, meaning users retain control of their assets through their wallets rather than handing them to a conventional exchange. That does not protect you from smart-contract bugs, compromised permissions, oracle failures, liquidation or a protocol becoming unavailable. As with other DeFi applications, check the wallet permissions you grant and avoid approving transactions you do not understand.

Two audits are listed for Flex, but their auditors, covered contracts, dates and findings are not established here. An audit is not a guarantee that code is safe, and you should read the actual reports and check whether the deployed contracts match the reviewed versions before risking funds. Flex's leadership section uses aliases rather than publishing identifiable team biographies, which makes independent assessment of the people behind the project harder.

There is an additional status concern: Flex's documentation includes a wind-down notice. Confirm directly that deposits, trading and withdrawals remain available before connecting a wallet. Do not leave funds in a protocol whose operating status you cannot verify.

What is using Flex like on Base?

Flex says it runs as a progressive web application and uses account abstraction for one-click, on-chain trading. It also advertises gasless order management, subaccounts and a Python SDK. These features aim to make a decentralized trading interface feel closer to a centralized exchange, but you still need a compatible wallet and must understand the transactions and permissions you approve.

The protocol is on Base. Make sure your wallet is set to the correct network and that any collateral you transfer is the right asset on Base; sending tokens on another network can result in funds being inaccessible. Flex names BTC, ETH and USDC as collateral options, but confirm the supported token contracts and current market availability in the app rather than relying on a general feature list.

No confirmed mobile-app listing, execution-speed measure or current uptime information is established. A progressive web app may work in a mobile browser, but that is not the same as a dedicated app. Before funding an account, test the wallet connection and inspect the trade preview, and verify that withdrawals are working.

Who should avoid Flex Perpetuals?

Flex's strongest selling points are its range of advertised markets, shared margin, multiple collateral assets and gasless order handling. Those features may appeal if you already understand perpetuals and want to trade from a Base wallet. Its claims about returning 90% of revenue and rewarding liquidity providers may also interest users considering the LP side, but token incentives and revenue shares can vary and should not be mistaken for dependable income.

The main drawbacks are material: a wind-down notice creates uncertainty about whether the protocol is operating; complete trading costs are not clearly established; and the listed audits cannot be assessed without their reports and scope. Up to 100x leverage adds substantial liquidation risk, while cross-margin can expose collateral shared across positions. Liquidity providers also take protocol, market and token risks, including the possibility of losses.

If you need transparent costs, a clearly documented operating status and readily verifiable security information, choose a better-documented alternative. If you do proceed, start only after confirming withdrawals, use a small amount you can afford to lose, and avoid high leverage.

Flex Perpetuals FAQs

What is Flex Perpetuals?

Flex Perpetuals is a decentralized perpetuals trading protocol on Base. It advertises leveraged trading across crypto, FX and commodities, with cross-margin and several collateral assets.

How much leverage does Flex Perpetuals offer?

Flex advertises leverage of up to 100x, but that is a maximum, not a recommended setting. High leverage can make a small price move enough to liquidate your position and lose your collateral.

What fees does Flex Perpetuals charge?

The protocol says trading and order management are gasless, but it does not publish a complete trading-fee schedule in its promotional material. Check the current interface and documentation for fees, spreads and funding charges before trading.

Is Flex Perpetuals safe to use?

Flex describes its trading as self-custodial, but self-custody does not remove smart-contract or liquidation risk. Two audits are listed, though their scope and findings are not established here; its documentation also includes a wind-down notice.

Which network and collateral does Flex Perpetuals support?

Flex is built on Base and advertises BTC, ETH and USDC as collateral options. Confirm which assets and markets are currently available in the app before transferring funds.
