Bonzo Finance Review: Is Hedera Lending Worth the Risk?

Bonzo Finance offers Hedera lending, borrowing, vaults and BONZO staking, but a reported July 2026 oracle exploit makes lending there a high-risk choice. Check current pool status and any recovery updates before connecting a wallet or supplying assets.

By the SkyBitcoins review team · Updated

Quick take

Bonzo Finance may suit experienced Hedera DeFi users comparing lending and staking options, but the reported July 2026 oracle exploit makes supplying assets especially risky. The protocol lists lending, borrowing, vaults and BONZO staking, and says Halborn audited its codebase. Before connecting a wallet, check whether affected pools are paused, what the project says about recovery, and whether you can tolerate losing the assets you supply.

What can you do with Bonzo Finance?

Bonzo is a Hedera-based DeFi protocol where you can supply listed crypto assets to lending pools, borrow against collateral, and withdraw or repay according to pool conditions. Its homepage also advertises automated vaults, BONZO staking in return for XBONZO, and Bonzo Points for protocol participation. BONZO token holders can use the token in lending and borrowing, while governance is listed as coming in 2026. NFT collectibles are another part of the ecosystem: Bonzo says they can increase points multipliers and provide token-claim utility.

These are distinct products with different risks. Lending returns depend on pool activity and incentive programs; they are not a fixed yield. Borrowing creates liquidation risk if collateral falls in value or no longer covers the loan. Vault strategies add strategy and contract risks. Points and token incentives are not the same as guaranteed cash returns. Most importantly, a July 2026 report describes an oracle exploit that enabled roughly $9 million in borrowing from a Bonzo lending pool. Treat the lending market as high risk until you have checked the current pool status and the project’s response.

What could Bonzo cost you?

Bonzo does not publish a clear fee schedule on its homepage. That means you should not assume supplying or borrowing is free: check the app and documentation for any protocol charges, borrow rates, withdrawal conditions and vault fees before approving a transaction. Lending and borrowing rates can vary with pool supply and demand, and incentive rewards can change. A quoted APY is not a guaranteed return, particularly when rewards are paid in volatile tokens.

You will also pay Hedera network transaction costs when interacting with contracts. The exact amount depends on the transaction and network conditions; Bonzo does not give a fixed total cost for a typical deposit or withdrawal. NFT multipliers and points may affect rewards, but their value depends on the program’s terms and any token’s market value. Before supplying, calculate whether expected variable yield could reasonably compensate you for transaction costs, liquidation exposure if borrowing, and the possibility of contract or oracle failure. Do not rely on a displayed rate alone to decide whether a position is worthwhile.

Can you trust Bonzo with funds after the oracle exploit?

The main trust concern is the reported July 11, 2026 oracle exploit. A search result says Bonzo Finance reported that an attacker used a third-party oracle exploit to borrow roughly $9 million from its Hedera lending pool. The report does not establish how much users ultimately lost, whether affected funds were recovered, or whether all pools were affected. Check Bonzo’s current notices and pool status before taking any action; do not treat a live app or an available deposit button as proof that a pool is safe.

Bonzo says its codebase has undergone audits by Halborn and that secondary audits are underway. An audit can identify issues but cannot guarantee that a protocol is secure, especially when a third-party oracle is involved. The homepage does not provide licence details or a clear explanation of the project’s custody arrangements. A third-party description calls the protocol non-custodial, but smart-contract assets can still be lost through exploits, faulty oracles, liquidation or other failures. Only supply funds you can afford to lose, and avoid connecting a wallet with unrelated assets you do not need for the interaction.

What should you check before connecting a wallet?

Bonzo’s homepage identifies Hedera Mainnet and lists supported assets including HBAR, HBARX, USDC, SAUCE, XSAUCE, KARATE, HST, DOVU, PACK, STEAM, BONZO, GRELF, KBL, WETH and Stargate. The homepage does not name supported wallets or explain the full connection flow, so verify wallet compatibility in the app before you begin. Check that your wallet is set to the correct network and that the asset and contract shown in the transaction match the pool you intend to use.

A normal DeFi interaction requires you to connect a wallet, approve a token allowance where needed, and sign contract transactions. Review each approval and transaction in your wallet; do not sign requests you do not understand. The site shows lending, vault, staking and points features, but does not publish a typical transaction speed or mobile-app details. Network fees apply to on-chain actions. Given the reported exploit, first look for an explicit status update on the specific pool you plan to use; do not deposit simply because the interface loads or displays a feature as available.

Who should choose a different Hedera app?

Bonzo is a poor fit if you need dependable savings, a published fee schedule, or a clear licensing and recovery framework. The reported oracle incident is especially relevant to lenders: a compromised price feed can affect collateral values and borrowing, even when users did not make an incorrect transaction themselves. If Bonzo has not clearly explained the incident’s impact on the pool you would use, choose a different venue or wait for clearer information.

Borrowers should understand liquidation mechanics and the possibility that collateral can be sold if a position falls below required levels. Vault users need to understand that automated strategies can lose value and may be affected by the same protocol risks. BONZO staking, points and NFT multipliers should not be treated as guaranteed income. The homepage does not publish KYC requirements, so do not assume whether identity checks apply to any particular interaction. Bonzo is also not suited to users who cannot tolerate losing their supplied assets or who need a simple, insured account rather than a smart-contract protocol.

5 steps

How to start with Bonzo Finance

  1. 1

Read Bonzo’s latest incident and pool-status updates, especially any explanation of the reported oracle exploit and affected markets.

  2. 2

Confirm that using the protocol and its assets is appropriate for your circumstances; review the current documentation for pool terms, borrow rates, liquidation rules, vault strategies and fees.

  3. 3

Use a wallet you control, verify Hedera Mainnet and the exact contract and asset details, and keep unrelated assets in a separate wallet where practical.

  4. 4

If you proceed, start with an amount you can afford to lose. Review every approval and transaction, and avoid granting broader token allowances than needed.

  5. 5

Monitor your position and the protocol’s updates; know how you would repay or withdraw before borrowing or supplying.

Bonzo Finance FAQs

What is Bonzo Finance?

Bonzo Finance is a Hedera-based DeFi protocol for supplying and borrowing crypto assets. It also lists automated vaults, BONZO staking and a points program. Its site currently shows a Hedera Mainnet connection, but the July 2026 oracle-exploit report warrants checking current protocol and pool status before use.

Which assets does Bonzo Finance support?

Bonzo lists HBAR, HBARX, USDC, SAUCE, XSAUCE, KARATE, HST, DOVU, PACK, STEAM, BONZO, GRELF, KBL, WETH and Stargate among its supported assets. Check the app for current pool availability: a listed asset is not necessarily available for every action or safe to use after the reported exploit.

What does it cost to use Bonzo Finance?

Supplying assets can earn variable yield, while borrowing requires collateral and can expose you to liquidation if its value falls or the position becomes undercollateralized. Bonzo also advertises vault strategies, which carry strategy and smart-contract risks. Rates, vault charges and other protocol fees are not published on the homepage.

Was Bonzo Finance hacked?

A July 11, 2026 report says an attacker used a third-party oracle exploit to borrow roughly $9 million from Bonzo's Hedera lending pool. Bonzo's homepage says its codebase has undergone Halborn audits and that secondary audits are underway, but audits do not prevent every exploit. The report does not establish recovery or the final impact on users.

What is the BONZO token used for?

Bonzo's homepage lists BONZO staking for XBONZO and says governance is planned for 2026. It also describes BONZO as usable in lending and borrowing. Token utility does not guarantee a market value, a particular reward rate or governance features being live; check the app and documentation for current availability.
