Owning SAFE: Uses, Storage and Risks
SAFE is tied to governance and the Safe smart-account ecosystem, but it is not the same thing as a Safe wallet. Here’s what to know about its uses, networks, costs and risks.

What does holding SAFE let you do?
SAFE is the governance token associated with the Safe smart-account ecosystem. Safe accounts and Safe{Wallet} are used to manage onchain assets, including through multisignature controls: an account can require approval from several authorized owners before a transaction goes through. That use case belongs to the wallet and account software; holding SAFE does not automatically give you control of a Safe account or a claim on assets held in one.
SAFE holders can participate in SafeDAO governance, including decisions about the protocol and its development. Safe announced Safenet in 2026, describing a role for staking SAFE to help secure transactions. Staking terms, rewards and risks can depend on the live protocol rules, so check the current contract and conditions before committing tokens. SAFE is not a payment coin required for every Safe transaction, and it does not represent ownership of the Safe company or a guaranteed share of revenue.
Which networks and wallets support SAFE?
SAFE tokens are listed as issued on Ethereum and xDai, the network now known as Gnosis Chain. Safe accounts themselves operate across more networks, but that does not mean the SAFE token exists natively on every network where a Safe account can be used. Before sending tokens, confirm the network and token contract supported by your receiving wallet or exchange; a token sent to an unsupported network may be difficult or impossible to recover.
You can keep SAFE in a self-custody wallet that supports the correct network and token, or with a service that supports SAFE deposits and withdrawals. A Safe{Wallet} account can be configured to hold assets, but make sure you understand its owner and signing setup; the token’s name alone does not guarantee it is the right wallet for your needs. Keep your recovery phrase or signing keys private, and test a small transfer when you are unsure about network compatibility.
How much SAFE exists, and what can change its value?
SAFE has a maximum and total supply of 1 billion tokens. About 790.8 million were circulating as of November 8, 2026, so roughly 209.2 million were not yet counted as circulating. The gap matters: future unlocks or other releases can increase the amount available to trade, but the supply figures alone do not tell you when or how that will happen. Check current token disclosures for release schedules and any changes.
As of November 8, 2026, SAFE traded at about $0.085, with a market capitalization near $67.2 million and a fully diluted valuation near $85 million. These are snapshots, not stable values. SAFE’s recorded all-time high was $3.56 on April 22, 2024, and its recorded low was $0.075294 on June 24, 2026. Past highs and lows do not establish a likely future price, and trading volume or market capitalization can change quickly.
How do people get and keep SAFE?
People generally obtain SAFE through a crypto exchange that lists it, or by receiving it from another wallet. Availability, identity checks, deposit methods and withdrawal support vary by provider and location. If you already hold SAFE on one network and want it on another, first check whether the destination supports the same token and network; do not assume that a similarly named token is genuine.
For self-custody, use a wallet that supports the relevant chain and verify the token contract against a trusted project source before adding or sending it. Store recovery details offline and never share a seed phrase or private key with anyone claiming to help. A hardware wallet can keep signing keys separate from an internet-connected device, but it cannot prevent mistakes such as approving a malicious transaction or choosing the wrong network. These are general handling steps, not a recommendation to buy or sell SAFE.
What does it cost to move SAFE?
Sending SAFE usually requires a fee in the native asset of the network, not a fixed fee in SAFE. On Ethereum, that means paying gas in ETH; on Gnosis Chain, transactions use the network’s native fee asset. The amount can vary with network demand, transaction complexity and the wallet or service you use. Check the estimated fee before signing, and keep enough of the network’s fee asset to move tokens later.
A bridge may charge fees and can expose you to additional costs, delays or smart-contract risk. Some services also charge withdrawal or conversion fees, which are separate from network gas. If you are moving SAFE between networks, confirm that the bridge supports the exact token and destination chain and understand how the wrapped or bridged representation is issued. There is no single published SAFE transfer fee that applies across networks and services.
What risks should you check before holding SAFE?
SAFE carries ordinary crypto-market risks: its price can fall sharply, trading can be thin, and token supply or governance decisions may affect holders. Governance participation is not automatic protection; proposals may be complex, turnout can be low, and a vote may not produce the outcome you expect. Staking, where available, adds contract, eligibility and possible lock-up or loss risks. Read the current terms rather than assuming staking guarantees a return.
There are also operational risks. A mistaken network or address can make a transfer unrecoverable, while a compromised key or unsafe transaction approval can put tokens at risk. Safe says its open-source contracts have been formally verified and audited multiple times and that it has had no critical security incidents since deployment in 2018. Those statements do not guarantee that every contract, integration, device or user transaction is safe. Verify contract addresses independently and be cautious of unsolicited messages, fake tokens and promises of guaranteed returns.
How did Safe and SAFE develop?
Safe’s smart-account product dates to 2018, according to the project. Its focus is account infrastructure: programmable onchain accounts and tools for managing assets, including multisignature authorization. Safe describes its ecosystem as operating across more than 15 networks and says more than 8 million Safe accounts had been created by April 2023. Those account and network figures describe product use, not the number of SAFE token holders or a guarantee of future adoption.
SAFE is associated with governance of the ecosystem, while the Safe account software can be used without treating the token as the account itself. The distinction matters when evaluating the token: product adoption does not automatically translate into demand for SAFE. Safe’s stated aim includes making smart-account features more accessible, such as recovery and easier transaction flows. For an owner, the relevant question is whether governance or a currently available token utility is useful to you, not simply how many accounts have been created.

Safe (SAFE) is ranked #349 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $67.2M and a price of $0.0850 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $85.0M, so roughly 79% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 0.8% over 7 days, down 20.5% over 30 days, down 61.4% over the past year. It trades about 98% below its all-time high of $3.56, set on Apr 22, 2024.
About 790.75M SAFE are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 1B (79% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $1.23M, or 1.8% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.
SAFE has token contracts on 2 chains we track, including Ethereum, xDai. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

SAFE FAQs
What is SAFE used for?
SAFE is associated with SafeDAO governance, so holders may be able to participate in ecosystem decisions. Safe also announced Safenet in 2026 with a staking role for SAFE; check the current protocol terms because staking availability and conditions can change.
Which blockchain is SAFE on?
SAFE is listed on Ethereum and xDai, now known as Gnosis Chain. Safe accounts support additional networks, but confirm the token’s network and contract before sending because SAFE should not be assumed to exist natively everywhere Safe accounts operate.
What is SAFE’s maximum supply?
The maximum and total supply is 1 billion SAFE, with about 790.8 million circulating as of November 8, 2026. Circulating supply can change as tokens enter circulation, so check current disclosures for release details.
Does sending SAFE cost a fee?
A transfer generally needs the native fee asset of the network, such as ETH on Ethereum, and the fee varies with network conditions. Exchanges and bridges may add their own charges, so review the full cost before confirming a transaction.
Is SAFE the same as Safe{Wallet}?
No. SAFE is a token associated with the Safe ecosystem, while Safe{Wallet} is software for managing onchain accounts and assets. You can hold SAFE without having a Safe account, and having a Safe account does not mean you own SAFE.
What is the market cap of Safe?
As of Nov 8, 2026, Safe had a market cap of about $67.2M, ranking #349 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of SAFE?
Safe's all-time high is $3.56, reached on Apr 22, 2024. Its all-time low is $0.0753 (Jun 24, 2026). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
What is the circulating supply of SAFE?
As of Nov 8, 2026, about 790.75M SAFE were in circulation, against a maximum supply of 1B.
Which blockchains is SAFE on?
It has token contracts on Ethereum, xDai.
