What does holding EGLD let you do?

EGLD is the native token of the MultiversX network. You can use it to pay transaction fees, interact with applications and smart contracts, and participate in staking and network governance. Validators use EGLD as part of the network’s proof-of-stake consensus; staking can contribute to network security and may earn rewards, but the reward rate and conditions can change.

Holding EGLD does not automatically give you a fixed income or a claim on MultiversX’s applications. Governance participation depends on the network’s voting processes, and staking rewards are not guaranteed. The token is also used as a medium of exchange within the ecosystem.

MultiversX is sometimes grouped with AI-related tokens, but that label alone does not mean EGLD grants access to a particular AI service or has a dedicated AI function. Its stated core uses are tied to the MultiversX network. If you are holding EGLD, the practical questions are whether you need it for network activity, staking or voting—and whether you are comfortable with its price and custody risks.

Which network and wallet should you use for EGLD?

EGLD is native to the MultiversX blockchain. The supplied token information does not list EGLD as issued on other chains, so treat it as a MultiversX asset unless a wallet or service clearly identifies a supported wrapped version. A token with the same ticker on another network may not be interchangeable with native EGLD.

To store or use it, choose a wallet that explicitly supports MultiversX and EGLD. Before receiving or sending funds, confirm the network shown in the wallet and the destination address; sending to an incompatible network or address can make recovery difficult or impossible. Keep your recovery phrase offline and never share it with someone claiming they need it to release funds.

Some holders use an exchange account for custody, while others use a self-custody wallet. With an exchange, the service controls the keys and its withdrawal rules apply. With self-custody, you control the keys but are responsible for backups and transactions. Wallet features, staking access and governance support can differ, so check them before transferring EGLD.

How much EGLD exists, and what can change its value?

As of November 8, 2026, circulating and total supply were both about 31.1 million EGLD. No maximum supply is listed in the token figures. Supply can change over time through network issuance, staking rewards or other protocol rules, while token burns or changes to those rules could affect the amount in circulation. Check current network data if the exact supply matters to you.

EGLD’s market figures also move. It was about $3.04 per token on November 8, 2026, with a market capitalization of about $94.5 million. Those are snapshots, not stable values: market prices and reported supply can change, and market capitalization is not cash available to holders.

The same date’s figures showed a seven-day decline of about 10.5% and a one-year decline of about 70.1%. EGLD had reached an all-time high of about $545.64 on November 23, 2021, and an all-time low of about $2.42 on June 26, 2026. Past extremes do not indicate what the price will do next.

How do people get and store EGLD?

People generally obtain EGLD through a cryptocurrency exchange that supports the token, by receiving it from another holder, or through eligible network activities such as staking rewards. Availability and rules vary by service and location. This is a description of common routes, not a recommendation to buy or stake.

If you use an exchange, check that it supports withdrawals of native EGLD on MultiversX—not just trading or a token with the same ticker on another network. Review its withdrawal fees, minimums, identity requirements and processing times before relying on it. If someone sends you EGLD, verify the network and address in your own wallet rather than relying on a screenshot or message.

For self-custody, keep the recovery phrase private and backed up securely. A lost phrase may mean losing access; anyone who obtains it may be able to take the funds. For exchange custody, access depends on the provider and your account security. Use strong, unique authentication and be cautious of unsolicited support messages. Do not share a phrase or sign a transaction you do not understand.

What can an EGLD transfer or bridge cost?

Sending EGLD requires a MultiversX network transaction, so you need to leave enough EGLD in your wallet to cover the network fee. Fees depend on the transaction; a simple transfer and a smart-contract interaction may cost different amounts. MultiversX describes transaction costs as around $0.002, but that is not a guaranteed fee for every transaction. Check the fee shown by your wallet before confirming.

Moving EGLD between a wallet and an exchange can also involve a service’s withdrawal or deposit rules. A transfer involving a bridge may add bridge charges and a separate transaction fee on each network. Bridges introduce additional smart-contract and operational risks, and the destination asset may be wrapped rather than native EGLD. Do not assume that a low network fee makes a bridge transfer risk-free.

Check the destination network, address and any required memo or tag before sending. If you are unfamiliar with a route, a small test transfer can help confirm that the receiving service supports it, though it adds a separate fee and does not remove all risk. Never rely on a fee estimate that has not been shown for your specific transaction.

What could go wrong when you hold EGLD?

EGLD’s value can fall sharply, and the token has had large historical price swings. The November 8, 2026 snapshot put it far below its November 2021 high; neither that fall nor a later rebound would guarantee future performance. You could lose some or all of the value you hold.

There are also network and custody risks. A mistake in the address or network can send funds somewhere you cannot recover them. Self-custody puts backup and security duties on you, while an exchange can restrict withdrawals or suffer an operational or security failure. Staking adds protocol and service-specific risks; rewards, access and any unstaking period depend on the method you use. Check the current terms before committing funds.

MultiversX supports smart contracts and applications, but those can contain bugs or be exploited. Bridge transfers add another layer of technical risk. Governance decisions and changes to network rules may affect how the ecosystem works. Avoid keeping more on an exchange, application or bridge than you can afford to put at risk, and do not treat marketing labels such as “AI token” as evidence of a guaranteed use or return.

How did MultiversX and EGLD develop?

MultiversX is a layer-1 blockchain designed to scale through sharding across network, transaction and state functions. EGLD is its native token and is used for network fees, staking, validator participation and governance. The project also describes applications in areas including decentralized finance, real-world assets and the metaverse; those ecosystem aims do not ensure adoption or token demand.

The project was previously known as Elrond and adopted the MultiversX name in 2022. EGLD is also described as “Electronic Gold.” The token information does not give a launch date, so this guide does not assign one. Its history includes a major price peak in November 2021 and a recorded low in June 2026, but those figures are historical reference points rather than a forecast.

If you are assessing EGLD today, focus on the uses you expect to need, the wallets and services you trust, current network rules and your ability to tolerate volatility. Network performance claims and ecosystem plans are not the same as guaranteed user activity or investment outcomes.

By the numbers

MultiversX in numbers

MultiversX (EGLD) is ranked #279 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $94.5M and a price of $3.04 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($94.5M) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.

The price was down 10.5% over 7 days, down 24.1% over 30 days, down 70.1% over the past year. It trades about 99% below its all-time high of $545.64, set on Nov 23, 2021.

About 31.13M EGLD are in circulation. No hard maximum supply is listed, so new tokens can still be issued.

24-hour trading volume was about $1.73M, or 1.8% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

EGLD is the native token of MultiversX. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
