What can you use DRIFT for?
DRIFT is the governance token associated with Drift Protocol, a Solana-based platform for decentralised crypto trading, including perpetuals. Project descriptions also identify staking and fee discounts as token uses. These functions are different from simply holding DRIFT: governance may let eligible holders vote on protocol proposals, while staking or discounts depend on the protocol’s current rules and any applicable lockups or conditions. Check the live interface and token documentation before committing tokens or expecting a discount.
DRIFT is not the token you need to pay Solana network fees; those fees are generally paid in SOL. Nor does holding DRIFT by itself mean you have deposited collateral, opened a trade, or earned a yield. If you are considering it for governance or protocol access, check which features are active, how participation works, and whether you need to connect a wallet or meet other requirements.
Which wallets and network can hold DRIFT?
DRIFT is issued on Solana, so you need a wallet that supports Solana tokens. Common Solana-compatible wallets include Phantom and Solflare, but confirm that your chosen wallet supports DRIFT before transferring. You will also need SOL in the wallet to cover Solana transaction fees; DRIFT does not pay those fees.
When withdrawing from an exchange, select the Solana network and check the deposit address and network carefully. A transfer sent on an unsupported network, or to the wrong address, may not be recoverable. For a small test transfer, account for any minimum withdrawal and network fees first. If you use a hardware wallet, verify Solana support and the token’s display in the wallet before sending. A wallet showing a token balance does not mean the token is stored by the wallet provider: with self-custody, you control the keys and are responsible for protecting them.
How many DRIFT tokens are there?
DRIFT has a maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. As of 2026-11-08, about 734.1 million were reported as circulating, with total supply at 1 billion. Circulating supply can change as tokens are released or otherwise become available, so treat these figures as a dated snapshot rather than a permanent count.
A large gap between circulating and maximum supply can matter to holders: future releases may increase the amount of DRIFT available to trade. Check the token’s current supply and any published release schedule before relying on an older figure. As of 2026-11-08, DRIFT’s market value was about $9 million, and its price had fallen about 96.7% over the prior year. That history illustrates the risk of sharp losses; it does not indicate what the token will do next. Market capitalisation and trading volume also change quickly.
How can you store DRIFT, and what can go wrong?
For self-custody, keep your wallet’s recovery phrase offline and private. Never share it with someone claiming they need it to validate a transaction, restore your wallet, or release a reward. Consider a hardware wallet for longer-term holdings, and send a small test amount before moving a larger balance. Check the token address and Solana network before approving a transfer.
Holding DRIFT carries more than wallet risk. Its value can move sharply, and the token’s governance or staking uses do not guarantee income or protect its price. If you connect a wallet to Drift Protocol or another app, review each transaction and understand what permissions you are granting. Trading perpetuals on a platform is a separate, higher-risk activity: leverage can magnify losses and may result in liquidation. Keep funds you need for near-term expenses out of speculative tokens, and do not assume a protocol or wallet can reverse a mistaken transfer or protect you from phishing.
By the numbers
Drift Protocol in numbers
Drift Protocol (DRIFT) is ranked #1,290 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $9.04M and a price of $0.0123 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $12.3M, so roughly 73% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 4.7% over 7 days, down 36.8% over 30 days, down 96.7% over the past year. It trades about 100% below its all-time high of $2.60, set on Nov 8, 2024.
About 734.09M DRIFT are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 1B (73% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $1.62M, or 18% of its market cap: high turnover.
DRIFT has token contracts on Solana. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
CoinGecko groups DRIFT under Governance tokens, Prediction market tokens.
