Owning SN22: Uses, Storage and Risks

Desearch (SN22) is a Bittensor subnet token associated with subnet 22. Desearch is also associated with a decentralized web-search service, but do not assume that holding SN22 gives you API access, governance rights, or a share of revenue; those rights are not confirmed. SN22 is distinct from TAO, Bittensor’s network token, so the two should not be treated as interchangeable.

Before you use the token, check what the current Desearch documentation says SN22 holders can do and whether the service requires a separate payment or account. If you are buying it mainly to use a search product, confirm the token is actually required for the feature you want. A token’s connection to a project does not by itself establish what rights or benefits come with ownership.

SN22 belongs to the Bittensor ecosystem, rather than being an ordinary Ethereum token. Use a wallet or trading platform that explicitly supports Bittensor subnet tokens and SN22. A wallet that can hold TAO may not necessarily support every subnet asset, so check support before sending funds. Confirm the network and asset name on both sides of a transaction; sending SN22 to an incompatible address or network can result in a permanent loss.

If you use self-custody, back up your recovery phrase offline and never share it with anyone claiming to provide support. A hardware wallet can help protect keys, but only if its software supports the asset and transaction type. If you keep SN22 with a custodian, check its withdrawal rules and whether you can withdraw the subnet token itself rather than an IOU or balance that cannot be moved on-chain. Do a small test transfer when practical.

As of 2026-11-08, SN22 had about 5.11 million tokens in circulation, equal to its reported total supply, with a maximum supply of 21 million. That leaves a difference of about 15.89 million between the circulating amount and the stated cap; it does not show when or how any additional tokens may enter circulation. Check current subnet rules before relying on the cap as a guide to future supply.

SN22 was about $0.61, with a market capitalization around $3.1 million and 24-hour trading volume around $8,800 on that date. These figures can move quickly, and low trading activity can make it harder to sell at a price close to the displayed quote. Historical extremes also show substantial volatility: the reported high was $2.43 on 2025-06-10, while the low was about $0.0088 on 2026-04-03. Past prices do not indicate what the token will do next.

SN22 carries the risks of a small, volatile crypto asset. Its price can move sharply, and low trading volume may leave you with fewer buyers or wider differences between buy and sell prices. The token’s value may also depend on whether Desearch and its subnet continue to attract users and contributors; a connection to a search product does not guarantee lasting demand for the token.

There is also operational risk. Bittensor subnet assets can require network-specific wallet support, and a mistaken transfer may not be recoverable. Be cautious with unofficial token listings, wallet prompts, bridges, and messages asking for your recovery phrase. Before using a third-party service, check its current documentation, security information, and withdrawal process. Only commit funds you can afford to lose, and keep enough time to verify the asset and network before signing a transaction.
