What can you do with WCT?

WCT is the governance token for the WalletConnect Network, which connects crypto wallets with decentralized applications. Holding WCT may let you vote on proposals about the network’s direction, and it can be used for staking, according to the project’s stated token uses. These functions do not make WCT a share in WalletConnect or give you a claim on network revenue.

Before staking or voting, check the current proposal and staking rules in the official WalletConnect interface. Confirm which tokens and networks it accepts, whether staking has a lockup, how rewards work, and whether any penalties apply. Don’t assume that staking guarantees a return or that every WCT holder has the same voting rights. If you only want to hold the token, you do not need to stake it; keeping it in a wallet does not itself earn rewards.

Which networks and wallets can hold WCT?

WCT is issued on Ethereum, Optimism, Solana, and Base. That does not mean the versions on those networks are automatically interchangeable, or that every wallet supports WCT on every chain. Check the network and token address before you receive or send it, and make sure the receiving service supports that exact version.

A practical check before transferring:

  • Select the same network in your wallet and on the receiving platform.
  • Verify the token address against WalletConnect’s official channels; tickers can be copied by unrelated tokens.
  • Check that you have the network’s required fee token for the transaction.
  • Don’t use a bridge unless you have verified the bridge, destination network, and token representation.

A transfer to an unsupported network or address may be difficult or impossible to recover. If a wallet does not display WCT automatically, importing a token address only helps when it is the correct address for the selected network.

How much WCT exists?

As of 2026-11-08, WCT’s reported supply was about 488 million tokens circulating out of a total and maximum supply of 1 billion. The remaining difference between circulating and maximum supply matters: tokens entering circulation can affect the amount available to trade, though supply alone does not determine the token’s value.

Check the project’s current token information before making decisions based on these figures. Circulating supply can change as tokens are distributed or released, and the reported figure may differ between services. WCT has no guaranteed price floor, and its governance or staking uses do not ensure that demand will rise. Treat a market price as a snapshot, not a promise of what you could sell for later.

How should you store WCT safely?

For long-term holding, use a wallet that supports WCT on the network where your tokens are held. A hardware wallet can keep signing keys offline, while a reputable software wallet may be more convenient for regular governance or staking actions. In either case, protect your recovery phrase: anyone who gets it can take control of the wallet, and losing it can mean losing access.

Keep your recovery phrase offline and private, and never enter it into a site or share it with someone claiming to provide support. Verify the wallet app and network before using them. For staking or voting, review each transaction on your wallet’s confirmation screen; a request to sign may authorize more than a simple vote. Consider a small test transfer before moving a larger amount, especially when changing networks or using a new address.

What could go wrong when you hold WCT?

WCT carries the usual risks of a volatile crypto asset: its price can fall sharply, and you may not be able to sell at the price you expect. As of 2026-11-08, its reported price was about $0.031, but that figure changes constantly. Token supply changes, market conditions, and shifts in the network’s use can all affect demand; none makes a future price predictable.

You also face operational risks. Sending WCT on the wrong network, approving a malicious transaction, or losing your wallet keys can cause permanent losses. Fake WCT tokens and phishing messages may imitate WalletConnect. Confirm token addresses through official project channels, avoid links sent in unsolicited messages, and don’t sign transactions you cannot explain. Staking can add protocol-specific risks, so read the current rules and understand any lockups or penalties before committing tokens.
