What do you get when you hold BTCUSD?
BTCUSD is a stablecoin issued and managed by BTCFi, a platform that says users can deposit Bitcoin in different formats as collateral to mint BtcUSD. The stated purpose is to let Bitcoin holders use their BTC in DeFi while keeping a position backed by Bitcoin collateral. That is different from owning Bitcoin itself: BTCUSD is a separate token, and its ticker does not mean it is a BTC/USD trading pair or a claim to a US dollar in a bank account.
BTCFi describes the stablecoin as decentralized, but that label alone does not tell you how collateral is held, how minting works or whether you can redeem at a fixed value. Before using it, check BTCFi’s current minting and redemption rules, collateral requirements and any yield strategy involved. Do not treat the idea of earning yield as a promised return.
Which network and wallet do you need for BTCUSD?
BTCUSD is issued on Base. To hold or transfer it yourself, use a wallet that supports Base and can display the correct BTCUSD token. Check the token’s identity carefully before sending: the ticker BTCUSD is also used in other contexts, including for Bitcoin priced in US dollars, and a matching ticker is not proof that you have the right asset.
Base transactions generally require ETH on Base for network fees. Keep enough for fees if you plan to move the token or interact with a DeFi app. The listed issuance is on Base only, so do not assume a token with the same name on another network is the same asset, or that BTCUSD can be bridged safely. A transfer to an unsupported network or contract can make your tokens inaccessible.
How much BTCUSD is there, and does it stay near $1?
BTCUSD had about 5.37 million tokens in both circulating and total supply as of November 8, 2026. No maximum supply is listed. The reported market capitalization was about $5.3 million on that date. These figures can change as tokens are minted, burned or moved into circulation.
The token’s price was about $1.00 on November 8, 2026, but a stablecoin can trade above or below its intended value. BTCUSD’s reported 24-hour trading volume was about $45 on that date, so check current liquidity before assuming you can trade a large amount at a price near $1. A market price near one dollar does not prove that each token can be redeemed for one dollar, or that collateral can be accessed quickly during market stress.
How can you store BTCUSD, and what could go wrong?
If you hold BTCUSD in a self-custody wallet, protect your recovery phrase offline and never share it. Confirm that your wallet is set to Base and check the token identity before sending or approving a transaction. Be cautious with unfamiliar apps asking for token permissions; a malicious or compromised contract can put your assets at risk.
There are also risks beyond wallet security. BTCUSD depends on its collateral and the contracts and processes BTCFi uses to mint, manage and redeem it. BTCFi does not publish the audit status, exact collateral-handling rules, redemption terms or liquidation thresholds in the project details available to holders. That makes it harder to assess how the token might behave if collateral falls in value, a contract fails or redemptions are restricted. Bitcoin held in different formats can also carry separate custody, bridge or issuer risks. Do not deposit BTC you cannot afford to lose.
