What can you do with AXL?
AXL is mainly useful for staking, governance and paying fees on the Axelar network. If you only use a cross-chain app that routes through Axelar, you generally do not need to hold AXL: the network can handle token conversions behind the scenes, so you pay gas in the source-chain token.
As a holder, you can delegate AXL to a validator’s staking pool and receive network rewards, minus the validator’s commission. You can also use AXL to vote on network decisions. These uses involve different risks: staking can expose you to validator performance and network rules, while governance rights do not guarantee that a proposal will pass or benefit your holdings.
AXL is not a claim on Axelar’s business or a fixed-yield product. Rewards are inflationary, which increases token supply. Network transaction fees may affect supply through the fee mechanism, but that does not mean AXL is guaranteed to become deflationary.
Which chains and wallets can hold AXL?
AXL is the token used by Axelar’s proof-of-stake network, and token representations are issued on multiple other chains. The listed chains include Ethereum, Avalanche, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Polygon, Fantom, Moonbeam, Secret and Osmosis. A token with the AXL ticker on one of these networks may be a bridged representation, not the same on-chain asset as AXL on Axelar.
Choose a wallet that supports the specific network and token representation you intend to use. Before sending, check the network name, token contract or asset identifier, and the receiving wallet’s support for that chain. A matching ticker alone is not enough to identify the right asset.
If you are staking or voting, you need access to the Axelar network’s relevant functions; a wallet holding AXL on another chain may not be ready to do those things without a supported transfer or conversion. Do not send tokens directly between networks unless the wallet or bridge explicitly supports that route.
How much AXL exists, and what changes its supply?
Axelar lists about 1.25 billion AXL in circulation and about 1.26 billion total supply as of November 8, 2026. No maximum supply is listed in the token figures. Those amounts can change, so check a current token explorer before relying on them.
Staking rewards add to supply, making issuance inflationary. Axelar’s fee mechanism may offset issuance and could make supply deflationary under some conditions, but that outcome is not assured. The balance depends on network activity and how fees are applied; holding or staking AXL does not give you a fixed share of network fees.
The token has also been highly volatile. It was listed at about $0.036 on November 8, 2026, after a recorded all-time high of $2.64 on March 1, 2024. Past prices do not establish what AXL will be worth next. Consider whether you can tolerate large losses and avoid treating a past high or low as a guide to future value.
How do you get and store AXL?
You can receive AXL through a supported exchange, transfer it from another wallet, or acquire a representation through a supported cross-chain route. Availability and withdrawal networks vary by provider. Check the selected network and any minimum withdrawal before confirming a transfer; choosing the wrong chain can leave tokens inaccessible or require extra steps to recover.
For self-custody, use a wallet that supports the exact chain where your AXL is held. Keep your recovery phrase offline and private, and confirm the asset and network with a small test transfer when appropriate. A wallet display may not show every token automatically, so verify the asset identifier rather than assuming a ticker is enough.
If you delegate AXL, review the validator’s commission, operating record and delegation terms. Staked tokens may not be immediately transferable, and unstaking can involve a waiting period set by network rules. Check those rules in the wallet or staking interface before committing tokens.
What does it cost to move AXL across chains?
Moving AXL can cost more than one fee. You may pay the source chain’s gas fee, a destination chain’s gas fee, and any bridge or route charge shown by the service. Staking transactions and governance actions also require network transactions. The exact amount depends on the chains, route, congestion and transaction size; fees are not fixed by the token itself.
Axelar’s user flow can convert between AXL and destination-chain tokens behind the scenes, so a person using an Axelar-powered app may only need to pay gas in the source-chain token. That does not make cross-chain transfers free. Check the final quote, expected destination amount, estimated delivery time and any minimum before approving.
A bridge transaction can involve separate steps on two networks. If it is delayed, avoid repeating it until you have checked the transaction status, since a second attempt may create another fee or transfer. Keep enough of the relevant chain’s gas token for the actions you may need afterward.
What can go wrong when you hold or bridge AXL?
The main risks are price volatility, token dilution, validator and staking risks, and cross-chain security. A bridge or interchain route depends on software, validators, signing processes and the connected chains. A failure or exploit in any part of a route can delay transfers or put assets at risk. A successful transaction on one chain does not guarantee that every connected chain or application is equally secure.
Before moving funds, check the exact route, the app or bridge you are using, its current security disclosures and whether the destination token is a native asset or bridged representation. Confirm that the receiving app accepts that representation. Do not rely on a token ticker, a wallet balance display or a claimed audit as proof that a route is safe.
Staking adds exposure to validator conduct and network rules, while governance participation does not remove those risks. Use only amounts you can afford to lose, protect your wallet recovery phrase, and treat unsolicited support messages or requests to sign unexpected transactions as warning signs.
How does Axelar fit into a cross-chain transfer?
Axelar is designed as a proof-of-stake blockchain that connects other blockchains and routes cross-chain messages. Validators produce blocks, participate in multiparty signing and vote on external-chain states. Developers can use Axelar tools to build applications that interact across networks.
AXL supports that system through staking, governance and network transaction fees. Axelar describes its design so that users of connected applications do not need to hold AXL themselves; conversions into AXL and destination-chain tokens can happen behind the scenes. That distinction matters if you are considering AXL only because an app uses Axelar: the app’s use of the network does not necessarily require you to own the token.
A launch date is not established in the token details. For a practical decision, focus on the current chain and route you plan to use, the token representation in your wallet, staking conditions if relevant, and the fees shown before you confirm a transaction.

AXL FAQs
Do you need AXL to use Axelar?
No. Axelar can handle conversions behind the scenes, allowing you to pay gas in the source-chain token. You need AXL for holder activities such as staking or governance, not necessarily to use an app that routes through Axelar.
Which networks support AXL?
Axelar’s token information lists AXL on Ethereum, Avalanche, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Polygon, Fantom, Moonbeam, Secret and Osmosis. Check the network and asset identifier carefully because a matching ticker can represent a bridged token rather than AXL on Axelar.
What is AXL used for?
AXL is used for staking, governance and network transaction fees. Delegating to a validator may earn rewards, but rewards are inflationary and the validator can charge commission; staking is not a guaranteed return.
What is the supply of AXL?
Axelar lists about 1.25 billion AXL in circulation and about 1.26 billion total supply as of November 8, 2026. No maximum supply is listed, and rewards increase supply; the fee mechanism could offset issuance in some conditions but does not guarantee deflation.
What fees do you pay to transfer AXL?
Costs depend on the source and destination networks, route, congestion and transaction type. Check the final quote for gas and any bridge or route charges before approving; cross-chain transfers are not necessarily free even when the app handles token conversions for you.
What is the market cap of Axelar?
As of Nov 8, 2026, Axelar had a market cap of about $45.7M, ranking #465 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of AXL?
Axelar's all-time high is $2.64, reached on Mar 1, 2024. Its all-time low is $0.0344 (Aug 19, 2026). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
What is the circulating supply of AXL?
As of Nov 8, 2026, about 1.25B AXL were in circulation; no fixed maximum supply is listed.
Which blockchains is AXL on?
It has token contracts on Ethereum, Avalanche, Fantom, Arbitrum, Moonbeam, Secret, BNB Chain, Osmosis and 3 more.
