Owning APT: Uses, Storage and Risks
APT pays for activity on Aptos and can be staked, but holding it also means managing network, wallet and market risks. Here’s what to check.

What can you do with APT?
APT is the native token of Aptos. You can use it to pay transaction fees on the network, stake it to help support validation, and take part in network governance where voting is available. Apps built on Aptos may also use APT in their own services, but what you can do with it depends on each app’s rules.
Holding APT does not guarantee a return or give you a claim on Aptos’s business or assets. Staking can involve lock-up or withdrawal timing, and rewards can change; check the terms of the wallet or staking service you use. Governance participation also depends on how proposals and voting are handled at the time. APT’s price and the value of any rewards can move sharply, so token uses should not be confused with predictable income.
Which network and wallets support APT?
APT is native to the Aptos blockchain, a proof-of-stake layer-1 network that supports smart contracts and apps. The network uses the Move programming language and Move Virtual Machine. APT is issued on Aptos; don’t assume a token labelled “APT” on another network is the same asset or can be sent directly to an Aptos address.
Use a wallet that explicitly supports Aptos, such as Petra or Martian, and confirm the network before receiving or sending tokens. Some exchanges also hold APT for customers, but that means the exchange controls the wallet keys. A self-custody wallet gives you control of the recovery credentials, so keep the recovery phrase offline and private. If you lose it, the wallet provider may not be able to restore access. Check wallet support for your device and any hardware wallet before transferring a meaningful amount.
How much APT exists, and what changes its supply?
APT has a reported maximum supply of 2.1 billion tokens. As of November 8, 2026, about 884.1 million were circulating and total supply was about 1.211 billion. These figures can change as tokens enter or leave circulation, and supply data may be revised. A maximum supply is not the same as the amount currently available to trade.
New tokens may enter circulation through token allocations and staking rewards, while staking can temporarily make some tokens less liquid. Aptos does not publish a complete, current schedule for every future release in these facts, so don’t treat circulating supply as a fixed figure. As of the same date, APT’s market price was about $0.60. That is a dated snapshot, not a guide to future value; market prices and supply measures change.
How do people get and store APT?
People generally obtain APT through a crypto exchange that supports Aptos withdrawals, or through an Aptos-compatible app or exchange service. Availability, identity checks, payment methods and withdrawal options vary by provider and location. You can also receive APT from another person, provided they send it on the Aptos network to an address you control.
For self-custody, use a wallet that supports Aptos and back up its recovery phrase offline. Never share that phrase or enter it into a site or app that contacts you unexpectedly. For exchange custody, check withdrawal rules, account security controls and whether you can withdraw on the Aptos network. Before sending, verify the address and network with a small test transfer if appropriate. These are general ways to handle the token, not a recommendation to acquire it.
What can an APT transfer or bridge cost?
An Aptos transfer uses network gas, normally paid in APT. The amount depends on the transaction and current network conditions; there is no single fixed fee for every transfer. Swapping tokens, using an app or interacting with a smart contract may require more gas than a simple transfer. Keep a small amount of APT available if you need to pay for activity on the network.
Moving APT between networks can add costs and risks. A bridge may charge its own fee, and a transaction on the destination chain usually needs that chain’s native token for gas. A bridged or wrapped token is not automatically interchangeable with native APT without using the relevant bridge or conversion process. Check the network, token type, fee estimate and destination address before confirming. If an exchange is involved, its withdrawal fee and minimum can differ from Aptos network gas.
What can go wrong when you hold APT?
APT’s main risks include sharp price changes, changes to token circulation and the possibility that network demand or app activity falls. As of November 8, 2026, its price was about $0.60, compared with a recorded all-time high of $19.92 on January 26, 2023. Past prices do not indicate what it will be worth later.
You also face operational risks: sending tokens to the wrong address or network can make them difficult or impossible to recover; losing a recovery phrase can lock you out; and fake apps or messages may try to steal credentials. Smart contracts and bridges can contain vulnerabilities, and staking may involve withdrawal delays or other service-specific conditions. Check the exact terms before using a third-party service, and avoid keeping more on an exchange or app than you need for its intended use.
When did Aptos launch, and how has APT changed?
Aptos launched its main network in 2022. It was developed by people with experience building Diem, a blockchain project that preceded Aptos. The network uses Move for smart-contract development and is designed as a proof-of-stake layer 1, meaning validators help process transactions and secure the chain.
APT is the network’s native token, used for fees and staking, with governance functions also associated with the token. APT reached a recorded high of $19.92 on January 26, 2023, and a recorded low of $0.511162 on August 30, 2026. Those points show how widely its market price has varied; they do not forecast a recovery or further decline. If you are assessing APT as a holding, distinguish the network’s technical design from token performance: the two are related, but adoption does not guarantee a particular price.
By the numbers
Aptos in numbers
Aptos (APT) is ranked #100 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $526M and a price of $0.5954 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $721M, so roughly 73% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 6.1% over 7 days, down 21.4% over 30 days, down 81.4% over the past year. It trades about 97% below its all-time high of $19.92, set on Jan 26, 2023.
About 884.13M APT are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 2.1B (42% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $17.2M, or 3.3% of its market cap: moderate turnover.
APT is the native token of Aptos. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

APT FAQs
What is APT used for?
APT is used to pay transaction fees on Aptos and can be staked to support network validation. Governance participation may also be available through Aptos voting processes.
Which network is APT on?
APT is native to the Aptos blockchain. Use a wallet that explicitly supports Aptos, and check that an exchange withdrawal is set to the Aptos network before sending.
What is the maximum supply of APT?
APT has a reported maximum supply of 2.1 billion. About 884.1 million were circulating and total supply was about 1.211 billion as of November 8, 2026; these figures can change.
Do you need APT to pay Aptos fees?
Aptos transactions use gas, normally paid in APT. The cost varies with the type of transaction and network conditions, while exchanges and bridges may add separate charges.
Can you store APT in a personal wallet?
Yes. APT can be held in a self-custody wallet that supports Aptos or with a provider that offers APT custody. With self-custody, protect the recovery phrase because losing it may mean losing access.
What is the market cap of Aptos?
As of Nov 8, 2026, Aptos had a market cap of about $526M, ranking #100 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of APT?
Aptos's all-time high is $19.92, reached on Jan 26, 2023. Its all-time low is $0.5112 (Aug 30, 2026). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
What is the circulating supply of APT?
As of Nov 8, 2026, about 884.13M APT were in circulation, against a maximum supply of 2.1B.
Which blockchains is APT on?
