What can you use NS for?
NS is the token associated with Sui Name Service, a naming system on Sui. SuiNS names can make blockchain addresses easier to remember and share; the token is separate from the name itself. SuiNS describes NS as intended for purchasing names and governance, so holding NS does not automatically give you ownership of a particular name or a say over every Sui decision.
Before using NS to buy a name, check the current SuiNS rules and confirm which token and name you are paying for. Names may have their own registration, renewal or trading conditions. If you are considering NS for governance, check how proposals and voting work in practice; a stated governance role does not by itself establish voting rights or influence. Treat the token as a project-specific asset, not as a substitute for a Sui wallet address or a universal identity credential.
Which chain holds NS, and how much exists?
NS is issued on Sui. The reported supply figures as of 2026-11-08 are about 275.8 million tokens circulating out of a total and maximum supply of 500 million. That leaves roughly 224.2 million outside the reported circulating supply; the figures do not, by themselves, explain when or how any remaining tokens may enter circulation.
If you hold NS, use a wallet that supports Sui assets and verify that it can receive and display the correct NS token before transferring. Check the Sui network and the token identity carefully—similar names or symbols can be used by unrelated assets. A transfer to the wrong network or token address may be difficult or impossible to reverse. NS is not described as a native token of multiple chains, so do not assume a wrapped or bridged version is interchangeable with the Sui-issued token.
How should you store and transfer NS?
For a small or long-term holding, keep NS in a Sui-compatible wallet whose recovery phrase you control. Write the phrase down offline and store it somewhere private and secure; anyone who gets it can take the assets. Never enter it into a website or share it with someone claiming to offer support. A hardware wallet can add protection if it supports Sui and the token, but confirm compatibility before sending funds.
For a transfer, check the recipient address, Sui network and asset identity, then consider sending a small test amount first. Keep enough SUI in the wallet for network fees, which are separate from NS. If you connect your wallet to SuiNS to use a name or staking service, review the transaction details before approving them. A wallet connection alone should not require you to reveal your recovery phrase.
What could go wrong when you hold NS?
NS carries both token-market risk and project-use risk. Its value can move sharply, and a naming service can attract fewer users than expected or face competition from other ways to identify wallets. The token’s stated uses—name purchases and governance—do not guarantee ongoing demand, voting influence, or any return. Sui network problems, smart-contract vulnerabilities, or changes to the service could also affect your ability to use NS or SuiNS names.
Watch for fake NS tokens, phishing pages and misleading offers of staking rewards. Staking is described in SuiNS terms, but check the current terms for eligibility, lockups, withdrawal conditions and any stated rewards before committing tokens. Do not assume staking is risk-free or that deposits can be withdrawn immediately. You can also lose access through a lost recovery phrase, approve a malicious transaction, or send tokens to an incompatible address. Only commit what you can afford to lose.
