What does holding MTA let you do?

MTA is mStable’s protocol token. Its stated roles are to support decentralised governance, incentivise mAsset liquidity and utility, and help build a community of Governors. Holding MTA does not by itself guarantee voting power or rewards: check the current governance rules and any proposal requirements before relying on either.

The token could also be used for re-collateralisation, but only if Governors approve that use in future. It is not a promise that holders can redeem MTA for collateral, or that the protocol will use it this way. Treat it as a governance and protocol-incentive token, not as a stablecoin or a claim on a fixed amount of assets.

If you are deciding whether MTA fits your needs, consider whether you want to participate in mStable governance and whether you can tolerate the risk that token demand, liquidity and protocol activity may change. A token’s stated purpose does not ensure that its governance is active or that its incentives will continue.

Which chains and wallets can you use for MTA?

MTA has been issued on Ethereum, Optimism and Polygon. It is not listed as the native token of any of those chains. You will need the chain’s own native asset to pay transaction fees when sending MTA or interacting with a compatible application; holding MTA alone will not cover those fees.

Use a wallet that supports the network where your MTA is held. Before sending, check the selected network and the token’s contract address against mStable’s official channels. A ticker search is not enough: unrelated tokens can use the same name or symbol. If you transfer MTA to an address or network that does not support it, recovery may be difficult or impossible.

A self-custody wallet gives you control of the private keys, but also makes you responsible for protecting them. A custodian may handle key storage for you, while introducing account, withdrawal and platform risks. Confirm that the wallet or service supports MTA on the specific chain you intend to use, and test with a small transfer if you are unsure.

How much MTA is in circulation?

As of November 8, 2026, MTA’s reported maximum supply is 100 million tokens. About 84.6 million are reported as total supply, with about 55.4 million circulating. These figures are not interchangeable: circulating supply is the portion counted as available in the market, while total supply includes tokens not counted as circulating.

The gap between total and maximum supply means not all of the maximum amount is currently reported as issued. A maximum supply does not, by itself, explain when or how any remaining tokens might enter circulation. Check current token and governance information before making decisions based on supply; figures can change.

On the same date, MTA’s reported market capitalisation was about $1.7 million and its 24-hour trading volume was about $61. That very low reported volume can make it harder to trade at a predictable price, especially in larger amounts. These are time-sensitive figures, not a guarantee that you can sell at a particular price or find a buyer.

How can you store MTA safely, and what could go wrong?

For self-custody, keep your recovery phrase offline and private. Never share it with someone claiming they need it to verify, upgrade or release your MTA. Store it somewhere protected from theft, fire and water damage, and consider a hardware wallet if you can manage its setup and backup safely. Do not enter your recovery phrase into an unfamiliar website or app.

MTA carries several risks beyond wallet theft. Its price and liquidity can move sharply; the reported trading volume was about $61 over 24 hours as of November 8, 2026. Low liquidity can mean a wide gap between quoted and executed prices, or difficulty completing a trade. Governance decisions can change how the protocol operates, and a proposed future role in re-collateralisation would depend on approval and implementation.

Check the network and recipient address before every transfer, and be cautious with token approvals that let an application move assets. A compromised wallet, malicious contract, mistaken chain selection or protocol failure can result in loss. Do not treat MTA’s governance role or maximum supply as protection against those risks.

By the numbers

mStable Governance: Meta in numbers

mStable Governance: Meta (MTA) is ranked #2,520 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $1.71M and a price of $0.0309 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $2.61M, so roughly 66% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 1.3% over 7 days, up 4.0% over 30 days, down 3.2% over the past year. It trades about 100% below its all-time high of $11.03, set on Aug 31, 2020.

About 55.44M MTA are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 100M (55% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $61, or 0.0% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

MTA has token contracts on 3 chains we track, including Ethereum, Optimism, Polygon. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

MTA FAQs

What is MTA used for?

MTA is used to coordinate mStable governance and to incentivise mAsset liquidity, utility and community participation. Re-collateralisation is a possible future role only if Governors approve it; it is not a guaranteed redemption feature.

Which networks support MTA?

MTA has been issued on Ethereum, Optimism and Polygon. Choose a wallet that supports the specific chain holding your tokens, and keep that chain’s native asset available for transaction fees.

What is MTA’s maximum supply?

As of November 8, 2026, the reported maximum supply was 100 million, with about 55.4 million circulating and about 84.6 million total. Supply figures can change, so check current figures before relying on them.
