Owning FPIS: Uses, Storage and Risks

FPIS is Frax Price Index’s governance token, with a stated entitlement to protocol seigniorage. It is separate from FPI, and its very low reported trading volume is a practical risk.

What does holding FPIS give you?

FPIS is the governance token of Frax Price Index (FPI), a system designed around US consumer-price purchasing power. It is not the FPI asset itself: holding FPIS does not mean you hold a token intended to track the consumer price index.

FPIS holders are entitled to protocol seigniorage, and the project describes excess treasury yield as being directed to holders, similar to Frax Finance’s FXS structure. That does not establish a fixed payment or guarantee that you will receive yield. Check the current protocol rules, governance process and claim requirements before treating this as income. FPIS may also let holders take part in governance, but the scope of voting power and the proposals open to you depend on the system’s current rules.

If you are considering FPIS, separate the token’s potential governance and yield roles from FPI’s purchasing-power target. Their risks and value drivers are different.

Which networks and wallets can hold FPIS?

FPIS has been issued on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Fraxtal and BNB Chain; it is not listed as the native token of any of them. To hold it in a self-custody wallet, make sure the wallet supports the specific network and token standard you intend to use. A token with the same ticker on another network may not be the asset you mean to receive.

Before transferring, confirm the network and the official FPIS contract address through Frax’s own current channels. Match both sides of the transfer: the sending service must support the destination network, and the receiving wallet must be set to that network. A wrong-network transfer can be difficult or impossible to recover. You may also need that network’s native token to pay transaction fees; those fees are separate from FPIS and vary with network conditions.

If you use a centralized exchange, check its supported deposit and withdrawal networks and any limits before sending. Do not rely on ticker search alone.

How much FPIS exists, and how easy is it to trade?

As of 2026-11-08, FPIS had about 28.9 million tokens circulating, against a total and maximum supply of 100 million. These figures can change as tokens enter circulation, so check the current supply before making a decision. The maximum supply is not the same as the circulating supply, and neither tells you how much FPIS is available to trade.

Trading activity was especially thin on that date: reported 24-hour volume was about $17, with a market capitalization of about $2.5 million. Thin volume can make it harder to trade at a quoted price, and a small order may move the market. Treat these as dated snapshots, not a promise that you can buy or sell at those levels. The token’s price can also change sharply, and its market value is not guaranteed by FPI’s consumer-price target.

Check the current order book and the network-specific token you are trading. A quoted price alone does not show whether a trade of your intended size can be completed.

How can you store FPIS, and what can go wrong?

For self-custody, use a wallet that supports FPIS on your chosen network. Keep your recovery phrase offline and private; never share it with someone claiming they need it to verify, unlock or recover your tokens. A hardware wallet can keep signing keys offline, but it cannot protect you if you approve a malicious transaction or enter your recovery phrase into a fake site.

FPIS carries several distinct risks. Its market price is volatile, and the reported trading volume was very low as of 2026-11-08, which can make exits difficult. Governance decisions, smart-contract faults or changes to the Frax system could affect the token and any expected seigniorage or treasury yield. The project’s description of an entitlement does not guarantee a payment, its size or timing. Sending tokens on the wrong network or to the wrong address can also lead to permanent loss.

Before interacting with a contract or voting interface, verify the network and contract address independently. Do not sign transactions you do not understand, and only risk funds you can afford to lose.

By the numbers

Frax Price Index Share in numbers

Frax Price Index Share (FPIS) is ranked #2,170 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $2.51M and a price of $0.0867 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $8.67M, so roughly 29% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 4.2% over 7 days, down 8.1% over 30 days, down 70.9% over the past year. It trades about 99% below its all-time high of $14.20, set on Apr 13, 2022.

About 28.93M FPIS are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 100M (29% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $17, or 0.0% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

FPIS has token contracts on 4 chains we track, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Fraxtal, BNB Chain. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

FPIS is linked to Frax FPI, which we cover in our Algo Stables rankings. See our Frax FPI page for how the protocol works and how we score it.
