Owning AMPL: Uses, Storage and Risks

AMPL changes token balances through periodic supply rebases, so it is not a fixed-balance or guaranteed-peg stablecoin. Understand the mechanics, supported networks and liquidity risks before holding it.

What does AMPL do to your wallet balance?

AMPL is Ampleforth’s rebase token: its supply can expand or contract in response to how its market price compares with a target. The protocol adjusts balances about once every 24 hours, changing the number of AMPL in each holder’s wallet proportionally. The target is intended to reflect a CPI-adjusted dollar’s purchasing power; it is not a promise that one AMPL will always trade for one dollar.

Ampleforth describes AMPL as a unit of account and a potential collateral asset for smart contracts. That may interest you if you want to use a token whose supply adjusts rather than one designed to keep a fixed number of units in your wallet. But the rebase does not guarantee stable value: the market price can still move, and a larger token balance does not automatically mean your holding is worth more. Treat AMPL as a distinct, variable-supply asset—not as cash or a conventional fixed-balance stablecoin.

Which networks and wallets can hold AMPL?

AMPL has been issued on Ethereum, Avalanche, Harmony, BNB Chain and NEAR. It is not the native coin of those networks. To hold or transfer it, use a wallet that supports the specific network and the AMPL token there. An Ethereum address or wallet setup will not automatically give you access to AMPL on every other chain, particularly NEAR.

Before receiving tokens, check the network selected by the sender or exchange, and confirm the token’s official contract or identifier for that network. A token with the same name on the wrong network may not be the asset you expect. If you withdraw from an exchange, check which networks it supports for AMPL and whether your wallet can receive on that same network. Do not assume tokens can be moved between chains without a compatible bridge or conversion service; using one adds separate technical and security risks. Test with a small transfer if you are unsure, and keep enough of the network’s own transaction token to pay fees.

Can AMPL’s supply or your balance change?

AMPL’s supply is elastic, so the number of tokens in circulation is not fixed. When the market price deviates from the protocol’s target, a rebase can increase or decrease balances proportionally. The count shown in your wallet may therefore change without you sending or receiving a transaction. Check both your token balance and its market value when reviewing your holdings; a rising balance alone does not show whether your position gained value.

As of November 8, 2026, the reported circulating supply was about 1.85 million AMPL and total supply about 1.97 million. These are snapshots, not permanent limits, because rebases can alter supply. No maximum supply is published. Numbers may also differ by data provider or change after a rebase, so treat supply figures as approximate rather than as a cap or a forecast of scarcity.

How can you store AMPL more safely?

For self-custody, protect the wallet’s recovery phrase offline and never share it with anyone claiming to help you. Use a reputable wallet, secure your device, and verify the network and AMPL token details before signing a transaction. A wallet’s displayed balance can update after a rebase; that does not mean you approved a transfer. Read transaction prompts carefully, and avoid unknown sites or contracts asking for token approvals.

If you use a custodial exchange, check its AMPL withdrawal and deposit networks and its rules for handling rebases. A platform may show balances or process deposits differently from a self-custody wallet, so confirm how it handles the token before moving funds. Keep records of transfers and check that deposits have arrived on the correct network. Never send AMPL to an address or service unless you have confirmed it supports the exact token and chain.

What risks matter before you hold AMPL?

The main risk is that a rebase changes your token count but does not protect the market value of your holding. AMPL can trade away from its target, and the price can fall even when your balance expands. Conversely, a contracting balance can reduce the number of tokens you hold. You should be prepared for both effects rather than assuming the target works like a fixed peg.

Liquidity is another concern. Reported 24-hour trading volume was about $3,600 as of November 8, 2026, a small amount that can make larger trades harder to execute near the displayed price. Thin markets can mean wider spreads or more slippage. Network, smart-contract, bridge and exchange risks also apply, and a mistaken transfer may be difficult or impossible to reverse. Only hold an amount you can afford to lose, and check current market depth and the relevant network before acting.

By the numbers

Ampleforth in numbers

Ampleforth (AMPL) is ranked #2,210 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $2.43M and a price of $1.32 as of Nov 8, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $2.60M, so roughly 94% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was up 5.6% over 7 days, down 16.6% over 30 days, up 0.2% over the past year. It trades about 68% below its all-time high of $4.07, set on Jul 12, 2020.

About 1.85M AMPL are in circulation, from a total supply of 1.97M. No hard maximum supply is listed.

24-hour trading volume was about $3.56K, or 0.1% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

AMPL has token contracts on 5 chains we track, including Ethereum, Avalanche, Harmony, BNB Chain. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

AMPL FAQs

Is AMPL a stablecoin?

No. AMPL is designed around a CPI-adjusted dollar target, but its market price can move away from that target. The target is not a guarantee that you can redeem each token for one dollar.

Why did my AMPL balance change?

Yes. The protocol can adjust AMPL balances about once every 24 hours, increasing or decreasing the token count proportionally when the market price deviates from its target. The change in token count does not by itself determine whether your holding gained or lost value.

Which networks support AMPL?

AMPL has been issued on Ethereum, Avalanche, Harmony, BNB Chain and NEAR. Use a wallet that supports AMPL on the exact network you intend to use, and verify the token details before receiving or sending it.

Does AMPL have a maximum supply?

No maximum supply is published, and supply can change through rebases. As of November 8, 2026, reported circulating supply was about 1.85 million AMPL and total supply about 1.97 million; these figures can change.

How should I store AMPL?

A compatible self-custody wallet can hold AMPL on its supported network. Protect your recovery phrase offline, verify the network and token details, and check whether an exchange or wallet handles rebases in a way you understand.

What is the market cap of Ampleforth?

As of Nov 8, 2026, Ampleforth had a market cap of about $2.43M, ranking #2,210 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.

What is the all-time high of AMPL?

Ampleforth's all-time high is $4.07, reached on Jul 12, 2020. Its all-time low is $0.1559 (Oct 31, 2019). Past prices say nothing about future returns.

What is the circulating supply of AMPL?

As of Nov 8, 2026, about 1.85M AMPL were in circulation; no fixed maximum supply is listed.

Which blockchains is AMPL on?

It has token contracts on Ethereum, Avalanche, Harmony, BNB Chain, Near.
