Quick take

Altr may suit collectors who want to borrow against verified luxury goods, and USDt holders willing to fund individual loans. Its main draw is access to collateral-backed peer-to-peer lending, with example terms shown for watches. Before depositing or pledging an asset, verify the specific loan’s rate, fees, default process and custody insurance: Altr does not publish a full fee schedule or identify an audit, insurer or storage provider.

What can you borrow or lend through Altr?

Altr connects borrowers who pledge collectibles with lenders who fund loan requests. The platform says it initially focuses on luxury collectibles such as watches and cars, with other asset categories under consideration. Borrowers must start an asset-digitization process and provide item details for evaluation by Altr’s team. Lenders can browse active loan requests and choose whether to fund them.

The examples on Altr’s site include 12-month loans for watches at 9.7% APY. One example requests 28,000 USDt and shows a 30,716 USDt repayment; another requests 82,500 USDt and shows a 90,502.50 USDt repayment. Treat these as examples, not a promise of the rate or terms you will receive. The platform describes lending as peer-to-peer, but does not explain in detail how loan matching, missed payments or recovery of collateral work. Get those terms in writing before committing.

What will an Altr loan cost you?

The cost depends on the particular loan. Altr’s examples display 9.7% APY for a 12-month term, and its simulator estimates repayments based on user inputs. That does not tell you what rate will apply to a new request, whether a separate platform or origination fee applies, or how the displayed APY translates into your exact repayment schedule.

Altr does not publish a complete fee schedule. On top of loan interest, you may face Polygon transaction costs when moving USDt and charges from any fiat conversion service you use. Altr says Coinify supports exchanges between USDt and fiat currencies, but does not state the applicable conversion fees or rates. Before funding or accepting a loan, confirm the total amount due, payment dates, late-payment consequences, and any platform, custody, appraisal or conversion charges. Do not rely on the simulator alone as a binding offer.

How much protection does Altr offer for your collateral?

Altr says that, once its team verifies an asset, it is kept in an insured, specialized freeport storage facility in Switzerland for the loan period. Physical custody can protect a pledged item from being sold or moved by the borrower, but it also means you depend on Altr’s handling and the storage arrangement. Altr does not identify the facility or insurer, or describe coverage limits, exclusions or claims procedures.

The site has an “Audited by” heading but does not name an auditor or publish an audit in the text displayed. It also does not state a regulatory licence. Those omissions matter for a service handling both crypto funds and valuable physical property. Before transferring USDt or handing over an item, ask for the custody agreement, proof and scope of insurance, lending terms, dispute process and details of any independent audit. Only commit assets you can afford to have tied up for the full loan term.

What should you expect when using Altr?

Altr’s platform uses USDt on Polygon. The site offers wallet connection and Google sign-in, and says platform transactions can be converted to or from fiat through Coinify. Using a wallet means you need to select the correct network and verify the destination address before sending funds; a transfer on the wrong network may not be recoverable. Keep enough of the network’s native token for transaction fees where required.

For lenders, Altr says registration includes KYC checks. Borrower identity-check requirements are not specified, so confirm them before beginning the asset assessment. The site invites users to contact support through its listed community channels or email. It does not publish a clear processing-time commitment, deposit or withdrawal limits, or a full mobile-app description. Check whether the platform currently accepts your location and asset type, and make sure your wallet and account recovery details are secure.

Where does Altr fall short?

Altr is a niche option, not a general-purpose crypto lending market. You need an eligible physical collectible, an evaluation by Altr’s team and acceptance of its custody process to borrow. Lenders take exposure to individual collateral-backed loans, but the site does not clearly set out what happens if a borrower defaults, how collateral is valued or sold, or how lenders recover funds. Those are central risks, not fine print to leave until later.

The platform also leaves basic cost and accountability questions unanswered: it does not publish a complete fee schedule, identify an auditor, name its storage provider or insurer, or state a licence. Its showcased loan terms should not be treated as a guarantee of available offers. If you need immediate liquidity, predictable exit options or fully transparent on-chain enforcement, consider another service. Check that the product is permitted where you live and read the loan and custody agreements before proceeding.

5 steps

How to start with Altr

  1. 1

Confirm Altr accepts your country and the collectible you want to pledge, and review the applicable lending and custody agreements.

  2. 2

Ask for the loan’s total repayment, all fees, default terms and the details of collateral valuation, storage and insurance.

  3. 3

For lending, complete the required KYC checks and assess each loan request and its collateral terms independently.

  4. 4

Connect a wallet or use the available sign-in option; verify Polygon and the recipient address before sending USDt.

  5. 5

Keep records of your loan, custody arrangement and repayment schedule, and do not commit funds or property you cannot afford to lock up.

Altr FAQs

How does Altr lending work?

Altr describes a peer-to-peer model: borrowers submit collectible-backed loan requests, and lenders can fund them. The asset must first be digitized and assessed by Altr’s team. The loan examples on the site are denominated in USDt on Polygon.

Where does Altr keep collateral?

Altr says verified assets are held in insured, specialized freeport storage facilities in Switzerland during the loan. It does not name the storage provider or insurer, or publish details about insurance coverage and claims.

Does Altr require KYC?

The platform says lenders must complete KYC checks. It does not specify borrower KYC requirements, so check with Altr before submitting a loan request. You should also confirm that using the service is permitted where you live.

What currency and network does Altr use?

Altr uses USDt on Polygon for platform transactions. It says Coinify can be used to exchange USDt and fiat currencies, including EUR, CHF and USD. Check the exchange and network costs before moving funds; Altr does not publish a complete fee schedule.

What interest rate does Altr charge?

The site shows example loans at 9.7% APY for a 12-month term, but those examples do not establish a standard rate for every loan. Your rate and repayment amount may depend on the specific loan offer. Review the full terms before committing.
