Affine Review: Is Its Restaking Worth the Risk?

Affine offers liquid restaking through ultraETH and ultraETHs, plus cross-chain yield baskets. The product descriptions are clear, but custody, withdrawal mechanics and much of the risk detail need checking before you deposit.

SkyBitcoins rating

Quick take

Affine may suit experienced DeFi users who want stETH-based liquid restaking or cross-chain yield baskets. Its products include ultraETH and ultraETHs, and the app lists a 0% Affine Restake fee. But that does not establish the total cost or safety: Affine does not clearly publish custody arrangements, withdrawal conditions or audit details. Check those points, plus the exact network and strategy, before depositing.

Who Affine suits

Good for

  • ETH holders considering stETH-based liquid restaking
  • DeFi users comparing yield strategies involving Aave or Compound
  • Users willing to inspect smart-contract, leverage and withdrawal risks before depositing

Not for

  • Anyone who needs a clearly documented custody model or named audit scope before depositing
  • Users who want guaranteed yields or predictable withdrawals
  • People uncomfortable with recursive or leveraged DeFi strategies

What can you do with Affine’s restaking and yield products?

Affine has two different offerings. Affine Restake uses stETH and issues ultraETH and ultraETHs, which the project describes as liquid restaking tokens. It says it delegates to operators, seeks to onboard available AVSs and shares airdrops. Those are protocol claims, not a guarantee of rewards or principal. The project also promotes a risk engine, but does not explain its methodology in the product description.

Affine Earn is a separate set of cross-chain yield baskets using USDC, ETH and MATIC. Listed strategies range from Aave or Compound lending yields to recursive staking positions described as boosted up to 10x. Recursive positions can amplify losses and liquidation risk as well as exposure to yield. Before choosing a product, check which strategy your deposit enters, what assets it uses and whether your funds can be withdrawn when you want. These products are not the same as holding an unencumbered token in a personal wallet.

What will Affine cost you?

The Affine app lists a 0% fee for Affine Restake. That figure does not mean using it is cost-free: Ethereum network fees can apply to transactions, and the value of a liquid restaking token may differ from the underlying asset when you exit. Affine does not publish the full withdrawal mechanics or costs in its product description.

Fees for Affine Earn are not published there. Cross-chain strategies can also involve network fees and costs charged by underlying protocols or bridges; check the app’s transaction details and terms for the specific basket before approving it. The advertised “up to 10x” boosted strategies should not be treated as a yield promise. Ask what borrowing, leverage, liquidation and protocol charges apply, and compare the expected return with those costs. If the app does not make the complete cost clear, do not deposit until you can verify it.

What should you verify before trusting Affine with funds?

Affine’s site references an audit report, but does not identify the auditor, audited contracts, report date or findings in the product description. Read the report itself and check whether it covers the contracts you plan to use; an audit is not a guarantee against exploits or losses. Affine also does not clearly explain who controls deposited assets, what powers administrators have, or how emergency pauses and upgrades work. These are important questions for any protocol holding or routing funds.

The site describes a risk engine and operator selection, but gives little detail about how those controls work. A 2023 report says Affine raised $5.1 million in seed funding, including backing from Hack VC and Jump Crypto. Funding is not evidence that user funds are protected. Treat Affine as a smart-contract and strategy risk, and avoid depositing money you cannot afford to lose.

How do deposits, networks and exits work?

Affine presents a restaking app and says Affine Restake offers instant entry and fast withdrawals. Those are product claims; the site does not publish specific withdrawal times, limits, liquidity conditions or an exit process in its product description. Confirm the current process in the app before depositing, especially if you may need funds on a deadline.

The restaking product is based on stETH, while Affine Earn covers USDC, ETH and MATIC in cross-chain baskets. The exact networks for each Earn basket are not listed in the description. Match the network shown by the app to the network in your wallet before transferring or approving a transaction. The product information does not set out supported wallets, mobile availability, KYC requirements or whether users need an account. Connect only a wallet you control, inspect token approvals and test the app’s instructions carefully before committing a larger amount.

Where does Affine fall short?

Affine’s main trade-off is that its product descriptions give you a broad picture of the strategies but leave key operational details unresolved. You can identify the restaking tokens, the broad Earn assets and the 0% listed restaking fee, yet still need to confirm the actual chain, strategy, exit terms and total costs inside the app. That makes it harder to compare Affine with simpler staking or lending options.

The biggest caution is the Earn strategy range: recursive positions advertised as boosted up to 10x bring substantially more complexity than straightforward lending. The site references an audit report but does not give enough detail to assess its coverage, and it does not clearly publish custody controls. Affine is best approached by users who can independently assess DeFi contracts and leverage—not by someone relying on a headline yield or assuming “liquid” means immediate, guaranteed redemption.

4 steps

How to start with Affine

  1. 1

Read Affine’s terms and audit report; verify the auditor, scope, findings and any contract admin controls.

  2. 2

Choose a specific product and confirm its strategy, supported network, deposit asset and total fees in the app.

  3. 3

Check withdrawal conditions and liquidity before depositing; do not rely on general claims of fast exits.

  4. 4

Connect a wallet you control, review every transaction and token approval, and consider starting with a small amount.

Affine FAQs

What are ultraETH and ultraETHs?

Affine describes ultraETH and ultraETHs as liquid restaking tokens, with stETH-based restaking. Liquid restaking tokens represent a claim tied to staked assets, but their value and ability to exit can depend on protocol operations and available liquidity.

What fees does Affine charge?

Affine lists a 0% fee for Affine Restake in its app. It does not publish fees for Affine Earn in the product description, so check the current terms and transaction screens before using a basket.

Has Affine been audited?

Affine says it has an audit report, but the auditor, scope and findings are not identified in the product information. It also does not explain its custody arrangements there, so review the report and understand the contract and withdrawal risks before depositing.

Which assets and chains does Affine support?

Affine describes Affine Earn as offering USDC, ETH and MATIC-based cross-chain yield baskets. It does not identify the supported chains for each basket in the product description, so confirm the exact network and token before transferring funds.

How do withdrawals from Affine work?

Affine describes restaking as having instant entry and fast withdrawals, but it does not publish withdrawal times, limits or the conditions for exiting. Check the app’s current withdrawal process and liquidity before you commit funds.
