Owning RSIC: Uses, Storage and Risks

RSIC•GENESIS•RUNE, also called RSIC or RUNECOIN, is a fungible token issued through Bitcoin’s Runes protocol. Its stated story is tied to early Ordinals users: the project describes it as a “Pre-Rune” airdrop and the eighth Rune etched on the protocol. Those labels describe its history and branding, not a guaranteed benefit for holders.

The project does not describe a specific job for RSIC beyond being a Runes token. Don’t assume it gives you voting rights, revenue, access to an app, or a claim on project assets unless the project publishes terms that say so. It is not Bitcoin itself, and holding RSIC does not give you BTC or a right to a fixed amount of BTC. The “lucky number 8” and 21-billion-supply references are part of the token’s stated symbolism, not evidence of future value.

RSIC is on Bitcoin, so you need a wallet that specifically supports Runes—not just one that can receive BTC or display Ordinals. Wallet support can vary, and a wallet that shows Bitcoin balances may not show or safely manage your RSIC. Before transferring, check that the wallet supports Runes and displays the exact RSIC•GENESIS•RUNE asset.

Keep some BTC available for Bitcoin network transaction fees when moving the token. Runes are handled through Bitcoin transactions, and incorrect transfers or a wallet that does not recognize the token can make recovery difficult. Confirm the recipient wallet and asset name carefully, and consider a small test transfer if you are unsure. Never share your recovery phrase or private keys with a wallet support agent or a site claiming to help you claim RSIC. A token with the same ticker on another chain may not be the Bitcoin Runes asset.

The reported circulating and total supply are both 21 billion RSIC. No maximum supply is listed, so don’t treat the 21 billion figure as a confirmed protocol-enforced cap. The project says the supply pays tribute to Bitcoin’s 21 million limit; that comparison is symbolic and does not give RSIC Bitcoin’s scarcity or monetary properties.

The project also describes an airdrop to early Ordinals adopters and refers to an airdrop size of 888 satoshis. That wording is not a promise that every holder received the same amount of RSIC. As of 2026-10-25, RSIC’s reported price was about $0.00012149 and its market capitalization about $2.6 million. These are changing market figures, not a measure of what you can sell your tokens for. Check the current Bitcoin Runes asset and your wallet balance before making decisions.

RSIC can lose value sharply. As of 2026-10-25, its reported price had risen about 140.5% over the previous seven days, while reported 24-hour trading volume was unavailable. That combination makes it especially important not to assume you can sell a large holding quickly or at a displayed price. Market capitalization is an estimate based on price and supply, not money available to buyers or sellers.

There are also Bitcoin-specific custody risks: sending RSIC to an incompatible wallet, relying on a service that does not properly handle Runes, or losing your recovery phrase can leave you unable to access the tokens. Check the project and asset identity before connecting a wallet or signing a transaction. RSIC’s audit status has not been published. Only commit funds you can afford to lose, and keep your recovery phrase offline and private.
