What can you use RVN for?

RVN is the native coin of the Ravencoin blockchain, a network built for creating and transferring digital assets. You need RVN to pay network fees, and asset creation also requires RVN. The network can record transfers of tokens representing digital items or real-world interests, but a token on-chain does not by itself prove ownership of, or a right to redeem, the thing it represents.

If you hold RVN, its practical uses are paying for activity on Ravencoin and transferring the coin to another compatible wallet. It is not a share in a company, and holding RVN does not automatically give you rights to assets issued on the network. Before accepting an asset token as a claim on property or another real-world item, check who issued it, what legal rights it provides, and how redemption is supposed to work.

Which wallets and network can hold RVN?

Ravencoin is its own blockchain, so RVN is not an Ethereum or other chain’s token. To receive or send it, use a wallet or exchange that specifically supports RVN on the Ravencoin network. A wallet that supports Bitcoin or an EVM-compatible network does not necessarily support Ravencoin. Check the selected network and address before sending; an incompatible deposit may be difficult or impossible to recover.

You can hold RVN in a compatible self-custody wallet, where you control the recovery phrase or private keys, or leave it with an exchange that supports deposits and withdrawals on Ravencoin. With self-custody, keep your recovery phrase offline and never share it. With an exchange, you rely on its account security, withdrawal policies, and continued support for RVN. Confirm that withdrawals are available before depositing, and consider testing a small transfer before sending a larger amount.

How much RVN exists, and can the supply grow?

Ravencoin launched in 2018 and has a maximum supply of 21 billion RVN. About 16.55 billion were in circulation, matching the reported total supply, as of November 8, 2026. The circulating amount can change as new coins are issued through the network, so treat supply figures as snapshots rather than permanent values.

A stated cap does not make RVN scarce in a way that guarantees demand or value. Its market price can move sharply, and the coin can lose value even if the supply limit remains unchanged. If you are deciding whether to hold RVN, consider how much of your finances you can afford to expose to a volatile cryptoasset. Do not rely on a past high, a recent low, or a supply figure as a prediction of future prices.

What could go wrong when you hold RVN?

The main risks are market volatility, mistakes when sending funds, and the security of your wallet or exchange account. A lost recovery phrase can mean permanent loss of self-custodied RVN; a compromised phrase can let someone else take it. Exchanges can also restrict withdrawals, suspend support, or become unavailable. Check network details carefully and secure accounts with a unique password and available two-factor authentication.

Ravencoin’s asset-transfer purpose does not remove risks around the assets issued on it. A token may not provide an enforceable claim to a real-world item, and its issuer may fail to deliver what was promised. Network use and demand can also change. Keep records of transactions for tax reporting, and verify the current network status and wallet support before relying on RVN for a time-sensitive payment.
